In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. 2. Riches In Romans 8 This chapter is filled with hope, comfort, strength, and anticipation. It starts with two important words, NO CONDEMNATION. v.1 Your choice: You can receive the wages of sin or eternal life through Christ! Rom. 3:23; 6:23 It teaches us that those in Christ are not to walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. v. 1-2; 1 John 3:16-23
3. Riches In Romans 8 Good things for those who are NOT condemned: They are the sons of God… vv. 14-15; Jn. 1:12 They are joint heirs with Christ… v.17 They are going to be glorified with Christ… vv.17, 19 All things work together for their good… v.28 God’s plan is to make them more like Jesus… v.29 They can never be separated from God’s love… vv.38-39 There’s a special promise for those who suffer. Romans 8:17-18 If we suffer with Him, we shall be glorified with Christ!
4. Suffering To Glory There is suffering now! All experience it to some degree. Physical, emotional, spiritual, etc. Some suffering is brought on by others. Mt. 5:11-12 We bring some suffering on ourselves… Jas. 4:1; 1 Pet. 2:11 Paul knew what is was to suffer. 2 Cor. 11:23-31 The sufferings of Jesus for us all. Heb. 2:10; 5:8-9
5. Suffering To Glory There will be glory later! Rom. 8:18 The best is yet to come! “I go to prepare a place for YOU” John 14:1-3 To depart and be with Christ is FAR better! Phil. 1:21-23 The bible speaks of the third heaven… 2 Cor. 12:2, 4 1st Heaven is where the birds fly 2nd Heaven is outer space 3rd Heaven is the spiritual realm where God also dwells
6. Suffering To Glory Some things about heaven: A place of music. Rev. 5:9 A place of praise. Rev. 7:9-12 A place of service. Rev. 7:13-15 A place of comfort. Rev. 7:16-17 A place of rest. Rev. 14:13 A place of rejoicing. Rev. 19:7 No sickness, sorrow, or death. Rev. 21:1-6
7. The Suffering Now Cannot Be Compared To The Glory Later Judgment to come. 1 Thes. 4:13-18 Rewards are ahead. Rev. 22:12 Earthly suffering is only for a time. Jas. 4:14; 2 Cor. 4:16-18 Are you suffering now? Could your suffering be designed to bring you to Jesus? Receive Him by faith and obedience to be sure of glory later. Rom. 10:17; Rom. 10:10; Acts 2:38; Acts 18:8
