BODY SHAPES
DRESS ACCORDING TO YOUR BODY SHAPE
WHAT IS BODY SHAPE ?
 Female body shape is the cumulative product of
a woman’s skeletal structure and the quantity
and distribution of muscle and fat over the body.
Different body types are
1.Apple
2.Rectangular or boxy
3.Triangle
4. Inverted triangle
5. Hourglass
DIFFERENT BODY SHAPES
1. APPLE BODY SHAPE
 In this type of body, the top seems heavier, having
full chest and upper back with little or no waist
definition. Most women who carry extra weight
around the upper torso belong to this group.
 Characteristics of Apple body shape:
 Carrying weight around chest.
 Rib cage and back appear wide.
 Wide or fleshy shoulder.
 Undefined waistline.
 Narrow hips.
 Slim limbs.
OUTFIT STRATEGIES FOR APPLE BODY:
 Trimming and defining waist.
 Focusing on de-emphasizing the torso.
 Add interest to shoulder and neckline.
 Keeping waist free from detailing.
 Add volume and structure to your hips.
 Flaunting best bits ( i. e. bust and legs)
 Experiment with various textures and details (patterns
with dark base).
DRESS RECOMMENDATION
 Neckline :lowish necklines such as low V-neck
deep cut neck makes the torso look slimmer and
defined.
 Sleeves: wear sleeves that adds interest to your
shoulder such as, flare sleeves, cuff sleeves, slits
and cut outs, gathers and ruched sleeve etc.
 Tops: wear clothes that skims down the midsection
of the body. Examples are, empire waist, bias cut
dress, wrap dress, long tops, tunic shirts with
structured shoulder etc.
 Skirts: best skirt styles that draw attention towards
your legs are above the knee, knee and calf length
skirts. Examples are, bias cut, asymmetric, trumpet
skirt and structured pencil and A-line skirt.
 Pants : wear pants and jeans that complements your
heavy top. Examples are flare/wide leg and bootcut
pants which adds balance to body.
2. RECTANGLE BODY SHAPE
 if you have a rectangle body shape then it
means that your silhouette is fairly straight up and
down with a slight Masculine look
 characteristics of rectangle body shape
 no defined waist
 The hips tend to have a similar width as the shoulders
 do not have a lot of curves
 bust tends to be small or average
 bottom tends to be flat
 This is one of the easier body types for dressing.
OUTFIT STRATEGIES FOR RECTANGLE BODY:
 Define your waist
 Add Dimensions to Your Body Frame
 "breaking up" your silhouette to create curves from
waist up and waist down
 Look for tops with embellishments around the
bust and shoulders, or that are ruched or full
around the bust.
 void wearing vertical line print, as they would make
your body appear narrower.
DRESS RECOMMENDATION
 Neckline :Medium to high necklines usually work well,
especially if you have s small bust and long neck. you
have a fuller bust and/or short neck, make sure to show
more skin around the neckline with low'ish v-necks,
scoop necks and wrap tops. They help slim down your
chest and visually lengthen your neck.
 Sleeves : 3/4 sleeves usually work really well for a
rectangle
 Tops :Wear tops and jackets that emphasize the waist.
Blouses can look really good if they are tucked in.
Wearing tops with interest from the chest and up along
with a bottom with shape.
 Belts :Belts wrapped around your waist. Belted tops,
sweaters, dresses and jackets
 Bottoms : A-line skirts work really well for this
shape
 You can also go the other way and wear a tight
skirt or pants to highlight the curves that you DO
have
 You can wear almost any shape trousers but
slightly flared trousers will look great on you as it
will add more shape to your body. Low to mid
waisted pants are usually best.
