Body postures
ERIK ROZINKA
What does body posture mean?
 Body posture refers to the positioning of a person's body. Different
positions are defined by different names, all of which are different
body postures.
 Body postures are defined by identifying the part of the body being
positioned and its positioning. For example, straight, twisted all
define different back postures.
Facial body posture
 Touching Your Face During a Conversation: Face
touching, especially on the nose, is commonly
interpreted as an indication of deception. Also,
covering up the mouth is a common gesture
people make when they're lying.
 But people uses it in a lot of way such as Holding
objects in front of your body; Narrowing your
eyes; Faking a smile; Crossing your arms; Checking
the time etc.
Good posture while you sitting
 When sitting, your feet should rest
flat on the floor, with even weight
on both hips.
 Your back should be mostly straight.
 Your shoulders should be back but
relaxed and your ears should line up
over your collarbones.
Good posture while you standing
 When standing, your legs
should have a slight knee
bend so you’re not
hyperextending or locking
your knee joints.
Legs and arms
 Legs and feet are an important source of information about
someone’s attitude because most people are unaware of what they
are doing with them and rarely consider faking gestures with them in
the way that they would with their face.
The four main standing positions:
1. The Parallel Stance
2. Legs Apart
3. Posing, A foot forward
4. Standing crossed legs
The parallel stance
The parallel stance is a position
where the legs are straight and the
feet are placed closely together. It's
a formal position that shows a
neutral attitude and is taken by
schoolchildren talking to a teacher,
or if you are reporting to your
commanding officer, or standing in
front of a judge.
Legs apart
It tells you that a person is
standing his ground and is favored
by those who wish to show their
dominance. It requires that your
legs are straight, and that your
feet are placed wide apart with
your weight equally distributed
between them.
Posing, a foot forward
Gentlemen and posers would
bear their weight on one leg,
presenting the other with the
inner thigh facing.
Standing crossed legs
This is how many people stand
when they are among people
whom they don't know well. If
you interact with them you
would find that one or all of
them are unfamiliar with others
in the group.
What does crossed arms mean?
 During negotiations it typically signifies a person who is
attempting to “block out” what he/she is hearing. It signals
a person who is distant, insecure, defensive or anxious. But
crossed arms do have their pluses too.
• It’s also a comforting pose that can help you to concentrate and stick to
a difficult task.
• When solving hard questions or difficult math problems, cross your arms
across your body.
• Crossing your arms makes you utilize both your left and right brain, thus
creating a higher cognitive functioning ability in yourself.
Why having good body posture important
 Proper posture improves spine health
 Sitting and standing with proper
alignment improves blood flow, helps
keep your nerves and blood vessels
healthy, and supports your muscles,
ligaments, and tendons. People who
make a habit of using correct posture
are less likely to experience related
back and neck pain.
Thank you for your attention!
