Come September and we gear up to celebrate the Hindi Diwas (14th September) followed by the Hindi Fortnight. The Hindi Fortnight celebrations this year will commence on 15th September and will continue till the 28th of September. Various programs will be organised to promote the use of the Hindi language in our day to day communication. Hindi is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world. The Indian constitution, adopted in 1950, declared that Hindi should be written in the Devanagari script and would be the official language of the Federal Government of India. So let’s participate in the Hindi Fortnight programs with much enthusiasm and enhance its status as the first official language of the country.
This month heralds the beginning of the festive season; we just celebrated Ganesh Chathurti and Onam, and we are now looking forward to the Dusshera, Id and Diwali celebrations. 2. Vigilance Study Circle, Kolkata chapter organised its 5th Anniversary Celebration on 29th August 2014 at City Centre, Salt Lake City, Kolkata. Mr. Viren Sinha, C&MD was invited as a speaker for the panel discussion on "Positive Contribution of Vigilance in Effective Management of Enterprises". On this occasion Mr. P N Hari Narayanan, Manager [Vigilance] was given away the "Dedicated Service Award in Vigilance" for his outstanding work in Vigilance by the Central Vigilance Commissioner of India.
SBU:LS participated in the 4th ICC EXIM Summit held on 29th August 2014 at Taj Bengal, Kolkata. Organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, this Summit mainly focused on the theme “MSMEs: The Engine of Indian Economic Growth Industry”. COO [LS] was invited as a speaker.
SBU:LS was one of the sponsors of the inauguration of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (formerly Bengal Engineering and Science and Technology University), Shibpur. The inauguration was graced by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India on 24th August 2014.
A training program on Reservation Policy for SC/SC/OBC was organized at the Corporate Office on 29th and 30th August 2014. The program was conducted by Mr. C C Unnikrishnan, Retd. Deputy Secretary to Govt. of India. 22 HR Executives from across regions attended the program.

A paper on Concrete admixtures and emphasis on superplasticizers was presented during the conference.
Independence Day was celebrated with much fervor at Manali Complex, Chennai with the unfurling of the National Flag by COO [PC]. On the occasion, meritorious awards were presented to the employees’ children who had excelled in various examinations during the year.

4. SAFE WORKING AT HEIGHT
Any height which has a potential of fall, is considered as “work at height”. Whenever work is being carried out at height, adequate fall protection using full body harness is must to avoid any untoward incident. Any work which is carried out above 6 feet and is non-routine in nature must be risk assessed through a ‘Permit to work’ system and supervised by a Competent Person.
To minimize the risk level of the people working on the lubricant tanker top, G&L Kolkata recently put up gantry structures as fall prevention initiative. Kudos to the entire team for taking another step forward to improve safety performance of the unit!

Glimpses from the Capital City
The Garden of Five Senses is a park spread over 20 acres, in Saidul Ajaib village, opposite Saket, near the Mehrauli heritage area in Delhi. Designed by a Delhi architect, Pradeep Sachdeva, the park was developed by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTDC), at a cost of Rs 10.5 crore, over a period of three years. Inaugurated in February 2003, the garden is designed to stimulate our five senses with its beauty and attractions and gives us a chance to touch, smell, hear and see our natural surroundings. The garden serves as one of the prominent cultural venues of the capital. Partly built over a rocky terrain, the garden has various theme areas, including a section in the line with the Mughal Gardens, pools of water lilies, bamboo courts, herb gardens and solar energy park.
