The FIFA world cup fever had gripped one and all across the globe, but Brazil's exit had left millions of
soccer aficionados and fans terribly heartbroken. While sports analysts all over the world are discussing
this indelible case study, I recall a beautiful quote by Michael Jordan, “Talent wins games, but teamwork
and intelligence wins championships.” So let's leverage the spirit of team working in achieving our
collective goals and emerge as champions. In the month of June 2014, we witnessed a wonderful
example of "team working makes champions" at BL, and that was the highest ever despatch from IP,
Silvassa. Kudos to the team for this achievement!
As promised, we bring you glimpses of the World Environment Day programs held across units and

Highest ever despatch from IP, Silvassa in June 2014
Industrial Packaging, Silvassa despatched 1,31,638 barrels in the month of June 2014, which is the highest
ever despatch from the plant. The previous highest despatch was 1,28,389 in the month of June 2012.

Surveillance Cameras at Manali
As a measure of enhancing security and discipline at the Manali Complex in Chennai, surveillance cameras
have been installed at the main gate and at the employees’ attendance punch stations. HODs of PC, IP and
G&L at Manali have been given access to the camera feed, to enable them to track movement of
employees and traffic at the gate.

4. On 1st
July, 2014 SAP went live in ROFS. All commercial activities of the SBU like customer billing,
procurement and financial accounting will now be performed in SAP. The go-live was marked by generating
the first invoice in SAP for IOC, Haldia by Mr. Amrit Mukhopadhyay, Sr. VP [Technical].
The kick off meeting for SAP implementation at SBU: G&L was held on 17th
June, 2014. The meeting was
attended by D[F], D[M], SVP[Lubes], G&L Core Committee and the Project Management Team.
ERP Update
World Environment Day was observed in all units and establishments across locations on 5th June, 2014.
The theme was “small islands and climate change” and the slogan for the year was “raise your voice not
the sea level”. An online quiz was organised, trees were planted at various sites and workshops on energy
efficiency & creating safe work environment were conducted.

6. On 6th June, 2014 Balmer Lawrie sponsored Kashish III - Ek Adbhut Swar Yatra, an enthralling musical
performance by Ms Kanak Chaturvedi in G D Birla Sabhagar at Kolkata. The event which was organized by
an NGO, Pragati Sangh of Dara, in aid of the underprivileged in the Sunderban Area, was inaugurated by
Mr. Viren Sinha, C&MD.
As a part of the evaluation of CSR projects for the year 2013-14, TISS [Tata Institute of Social Sciences]
representatives visited & evaluated the continuing projects at IICP [Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy] and
the SOS village at Salt Lake on 24th
& 25th
June. TISS representatives also had an interactive session with
the parents of the children, who are sponsored by Balmer Lawrie.

The Lotus Temple, located in New Delhi is a Bahá'í House of Worship completed in 1986. Notable for its
exclusive architecture, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and has become a
prominent attraction in the city. Like all other Bahá'í Houses of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open to all
regardless of religion, or any other distinction, as emphasized in Bahá'í texts. The Bahá'í laws
emphasize that the spirit of the House of Worship be a gathering place where people of all religions may
worship God without denominational restrictions. The Lotus Temple has won numerous architectural
awards.
