Blood flow restriction (BFR) is a technique that uses a cuff to restrict blood flow while allowing arterial flow during exercise. This allows low-load exercises to build muscle similarly to high-load exercises. BFR can help athletes and injured or elderly patients maintain muscle strength without heavy lifting. A common BFR device is the PTS system by Delfi Medical Innovations, which uses adjustable cuffs and pressures to safely restrict blood flow during rehabilitation exercises.

"Physiotherapy at home" considers a possible alternative to physiotherapy treatments at a healthcare facility.
Travelling to a healthcare facility can be expensive, time-consuming and create unnecessary exposure to other patients, among other factors.
Our proposal is to use consumer technology to allow patients to receive some forms of physiotherapy treatment through the web. Team Albatross created a system where healthcare professionals create exercises targeting specific parts of the body and monitor patients performing these exercises in real-time. We created this working prototype in 24-hours.
Team Albatross is George Goh and Liu Xiaohui.
OBJECTIVES
Identify the anatomical structures, indications, and contraindications of therapeutic exercise.
Describe the equipment, personnel, preparation, and technique in regard to therapeutic exercise.
Review the appropriate evaluation of the potential complications and clinical significance of therapeutic exercise.
Summarize inter-professional team strategies for improving care coordination and communication to advance therapeutic exercise and improve outcomes.
Turf toe is not only the misery of a professional athlete; but it can impact anyone, anywhere at any time – even you! You are at high risk for turf toe- if you spend a lot of time walking, or you’re a runner or avid exercise.
Chiropractors define turf toe as a big toe injury and it is hyperextended resulting in a sprain of the ligaments surrounding the big toe. Turf toe is a common condition among sportsmen involved in soccer, football, lacrosse, track, and gymnastics. Sportsmen and athletes experience common such as swelling, pain, inflammation, and the aforementioned hyperextension.
Sometimes, turf toes are confused with sand Toe that is a close relative of turf toe. The sand toe can prevent you from experiencing a full range of mobility as a result of repetitive movement in areas of sand from sports like running, beach volleyball, or even surfing. This may be considered a sprain of the metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ).

Ventilator Hyperinflation (VHI) is a physiotherapy intervention that enables the deliverance of larger than baseline tidal volumes (Vt) via adjustment of the ventilator in the intubated and ventilated patient.
Ventilator hyperinflation (VHI) is a technique used by physiotherapists in intensive care patients who are receiving mechanical ventilation. The aims of VHI are similar to that of manual hyperinflation (MHI) and are primarily implemented in order to improve respiratory function by mobilising secretions and restoring lung volume. Since first being described in the literature in 2002
the use of VHI techniques has increased, with recent surveys suggesting they are utilised within 20% to 40% of tertiary hospitals
Despite this interest, there has been little research into VHI to guide education and practice. Clinical studies that have investigated VHI techniques have all utilised different methods to deliver the technique and there is considerable variability among clinicians in how VHI is delivered
These are the slides from the presentation on Blood Flow Restriction Training at the Sports Therapy Organisation National Conference. The information was delivered to an audience of sports therapists. However, it is applicable to all professionals working in health, fitness and sports performance.

Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.

2. INTRODUCTION
What is BFR?
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) is a technique that involves the use of a cuff-tourniquet system
placed around the part of the arm or leg away from the body to maintain arterial flow while
restricting venous return.
Combining blood restriction and traditional resistance training with BFR can help athletes
maximize athletic performance.
With BFR, you can get as much efficiency from low-load muscle-strength exercises as high-load
exercises. Thus, while the recovery rate increases, the duration of treatment can be reduced.
4. INTRODUCTION
BFR for after surgery;
Injured patients are often unable to do heavily loaded exercises, and the joint must create
strength and hypertrophy to accelerate recovery. BFR facilitates and accelerates hypertrophy of
the injured patient by triggering the secretion of growth hormone. In this way, it helps to treat
injuries such as lateral epicondylitis, patellar tendonitis and muscle strain.
BFR minimizes the loss of strength and muscle mass, so patients who cannot carry heavy loads
after surgery can maintain their muscle strength without any exercise.
As a result, the treatment process can be shortened while the treatment is effective in a short
time.
5. INTRODUCTION
BFR on an elderly patient;
BFR is not only aimed at athletes, it can also be beneficial for elderly patients who need muscle
strength to continue their lives comfortably but cannot do heavy-loaded muscle exercises.
7. APPLICATION
During the application, the tourniquet is fixed above the joint with the help of Delphi patented
Easi-fit. The pressure that can be optimized by the patient is adjusted on the device and exercises
are performed to ensure that the muscle contracts while the tourniquet is on the targeted
muscle.
8. APPLICATION
SETS AND REPS
The 30/15/15/15 protocol is what appears the most in the literature and from a clinical and practical
application.

10. DEVICE
There are different BFR devices produced by different companies. One of the most common
devices is the PTS Personalized Tourniquet System for Blood Flow Restriction produced by Delfi
Medical Innovations Inc.
This device provides safe and controlled regulation of tourniquet pressure. It is a device designed
for use in patients for whom a doctor or a health clinician has recommended blood-restricting
exercise.
12. DEVICE
Easi-fit tourniquet cuffs for BFR, patented by Delfi Medical Innovations Inc., makes cuff
application safer and easier, as well as aids in occlusion pressure in the legs by numbing the cuff
along both the proximal and distal edges.
Easy-fit tourniquet cuffs for BFR are available in 3 standard lengths to adapt to different limb
contours. (18”, 24” and 34”)
In addition, matching limb protection covers are available to protect the skin under the cuff
during pressure.
