Blockchain in Tunisia: From Experimentations to a Challenging Commercial LaunchITU
Moez Chakchouk presented on Tn.Post's experiments with blockchain technology in Tunisia. Tn.Post has launched e-Dinar wallet and MobiPoste services with over 700k users. They developed a DigiCash platform using a blockchain-inspired transaction protocol. However, introducing cryptocurrency in Tunisia faces regulatory challenges as the currency is not convertible and strict money laundering laws exist. Nonetheless, blockchain could enable distributed ledgers that respect sovereignty while fostering financial inclusion through open and trusted systems.
This 10 page document provides an overview of DAO tokenomics. It defines key terms and describes how DAOs function as decentralized token economies and networked businesses. The document outlines three governance levels and explains how a DAO's business model incorporates economic, governance, and commercial aspects that are governed through tokenomics.

Opportunities and Challenges in Data InnovationCharles Mok
This document summarizes a presentation on opportunities and challenges with data innovation. It discusses how companies can use data analytics to drive sales, save costs, create loyal customers, and improve efficiency. Examples are given of how retailers like Amazon and Walmart use customer data and predictive analytics to increase sales. Challenges discussed include data privacy, security, compliance, and cross-border data operations due to dispersed data storage. The presentation addresses how to maintain data ownership and control when using cloud services, and how businesses should prepare for potential data breaches by protecting consumers and sharing best practices.
The document discusses DAO tokenomics and how it can be used to create new token economies in web3 and the metaverse. It explains that DAO tokenomics establishes a digitally native economy where users have ownership and control over their data and digital assets through tokens. Blockchains are used to govern the state of assets and smart contracts ensure tokens are used to incentivize helpful behaviors and distribute value fairly among DAO members. DAOs can be used to create new types of networked businesses and industries through composable protocols for funding, governance, and creating markets for data, apps, and other digital services.
Regulation in the Digital Era? Some thoughts on the Blockchain | Marta Ghigli...Codemotion
This document discusses blockchain technology and its potential applications in government. It describes how some governments have started implementing blockchain solutions, such as Estonia creating a national identity management system on the blockchain to reduce bureaucracy. The document also lists potential use cases for blockchain in government like national identity management, tax collection, and voting. Finally, it suggests Dubai could save $1.5 billion per year by moving government transactions to the blockchain.
Blockchain and Internet of Things: Why a Perfect MatchFabio Antonelli
While blockchain gained a lot of interest particularly in the FinTech domain, it is in the IoT space that most of the advantages brought by blockchain could be exploited. In this talk you will see how blockchain can help in addressing some of the most challenging problems of IoT such as scalability, security, data privacy and why the decentralised nature of blockchain perfectly matches with the intrinsic distributed and decentralised nature of IoT.
Market into context - Three pillars for building a Smart Data Ecosystem: Trus...Big Data Value Association
Today’s data marketplaces are large, closed ecosystems that are in the hands of few established players or a consortium that decide on the rules, policies, etc.
Yet, the main barrier of the European data economy is the fact that current data spaces and marketplaces are “siloes”, without support for data exchange across their boundaries.
This webinar reveals how these boundaries can be overcome through the i3-MARKET “backplane”, which is an infrastructure able to connect all the stakeholders providing the suitable level of trust (consensus-based self-governing, auditability, reliability, verifiable credentials), security (P2P encryption, cryptographic proofs) and privacy (self-sovereign identity, zero-knowledge proof, explicit user consent).

Blockchain is the best known distributed ledger technology. A ledger is
a database which keeps a final and definitive record of transactions. Records,
once stored, cannot be tampered without leaving behind a clear track. Blockchain
enables a ledger to be held in a network across a series of nodes, which avoids one
centralised location and the need for intermediaries’ services. This is particularly
helpful for providing trust, traceability and security in systems that exchange
data or assets. There is a lot of potential for blockchain to be used in many different
areas such as financial services, supply chains or healthcare.
Presentation about how individuals can manage their own personal data for use in dealing with the organisations they have interactions with. Presented to the annual conference of the public sector IT management organisation, Socitm, on 11 October 2010
This 10 page document provides an overview of DAO tokenomics. It defines key terms related to DAOs and token economies. It explains how DAOs use blockchain and tokens to give users control over their data and enable new virtual economies. DAOs operate as networked businesses using smart contracts and tokens to incentivize behaviors and govern activities like funding, trading, and managing marketplaces. The document outlines the key components of a DAO's business model, including its economic model, governance model, and commercial model.
Three pillars for building a Smart Data Ecosystem: Trust, Security and PrivacyBig Data Value Association
The document discusses three pillars for building a smart data ecosystem: trust, security, and privacy. It summarizes an event on these topics from the i3-MARKET project. Trust can be achieved through blockchain technologies like consensus-based governance, tamper-proof ledgers, and verifiable credentials. Security involves hardware wallets, encryption, and multi-factor authentication. Privacy addresses GDPR requirements like data minimization, user consent, and accountability through self-sovereign identity, selective disclosure of information, and auditable accounting of data exchanges.
Blockchain is transforming how we do business. A popular cryptocurrency called Bitcoin helped prove the blockchain concept. In fact, many people equate cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. However, cryptocurrency is broader and covers any digital “coin” or token transferrable from one party to another without a central ledger (like a bank) recording the transfer. Companies have recently seized upon cryptocurrencies to raise money with “initial coin offerings” or ICOs outside the traditional, highly regulated IPO framework. With the rise of ICOs, the cryptocurrency market is booming. Today, thousands of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies vie for investors.

The Role of Government in Identity ManagementDon Lovett
Explore the intersection of identity management, government roles and responsibility, and personal control of digital identity. Introduces some of the Linux Foundation work in the Hyperledger Aries Project
The document discusses how blockchain technology can impact government services and law enforcement. It provides examples of projects underway in different jurisdictions like Estonia and Illinois to use blockchain for areas such as health records, academic credentials, property records, and benefit distribution. Blockchain could increase efficiency by allowing real-time transparency and tracking across agencies. It also explores how blockchain may transform the criminal justice system by providing tamper-proof record keeping of cases.
Blockchain represents a new era of generational wealth creation similar to the rise of the Internet. In 2018, over $3.9 billion was invested in blockchain by VCs. While 2018 saw major losses in cryptocurrency values, blockchain use cases solving real-world problems such as title transfers, micro-payments, and stakeholder coordination are here to stay. Enterprises are increasingly investing in blockchain solutions while investors are still investing in the technology and following the money.

Future of digital identity programme summary - 19 mar 2019 lrFuture Agenda
How we prove that we are who or what we say we are during digital transactions and interactions is set to become one of the defining features of the next stage of the human digital transformation. Today, we are living with early attempts to solve the problem that are no longer fit for purpose. At best, the multitude of different ways we login, confirm our identities, and establish trust in claims made during digital exchanges, has become profoundly inconvenient. At worst, they have left us in a connected world which is neither safe nor secure, and in which we seem to have completely lost control of our most personal information. The next generation solutions to the digital identity challenge could change all of this.
At the end of 2018, Future Agenda undertook a major project exploring the Future of Digital Identity. With the generous support of Mastercard, the Future Agenda team ran a series of expert workshops in different locations around the world that explored the key factors that are likely to shape the future of digital identity. The programme began with an initial perspective as a provocation. Participants in the workshops then gave us new, more fully formed, insights which were in turn explored further during one-to-one interviews with major stakeholders and thinkers in the space.
We are proud to launch this report of the findings of that work
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to all of those who contributed to the programme.
As always, we consider our reports to be the start point for further conversations, and would welcome further input. If you would like to join the conversation, you can join our LinkedIn Group here. Well-being and impact have become very familiar terms in recent times. Since 2015 many public bodies in Wales have a duty under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act to carry out sustainable development. This is about improving the way that we can achieve our economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being. Dr Owain Rhys Roberts presents how this has been considered and applied at The National Library of Wales and gives participants the opportunity to reflect and consider how this can be applied to their own context.
Many of the stories and case studies shared at this conference highlight just how important the art of collaboration is to ensuring successful projects and initiatives. In this workshop, Mystery Beck explores the art of collaboration, addressing the key questions we need to consider in order to collaborate effectively.
Towards a green Library: the British library’s response to climate changeCILIP
The British Library is taking steps to address climate change through reducing emissions, engaging audiences, collaborating with partners, and supporting staff initiatives. Emissions have been reduced 67% since 2009 through efficiency projects. Infrastructure projects will pursue sustainability certifications. Programs will increase climate literacy and engage communities. Networks will support green businesses and best practices. A staff sustainability group promotes action within the Library. The Green Libraries Partnership aims to place libraries at the heart of environmental change.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise boosts blood flow, releases endorphins, and promotes changes in the brain which help regulate emotions and stress levels.

The initiative won silver in the Welsh Library Team of the Year Awards in 2021.
Our place in an organisation that cares for the natural resources of WalesCILIP
Natural Resources Wales has embedded sustainable principles in all its work. In this session Kester Savage and Joanne Hindes explain how library and information services fit into the wider sustainability goals of the organisation and the challenges faced in putting sustainability in front and centre of their work.
This document discusses copyright considerations for research data. It explains that primary research data and secondary data may be protected by copyright or database rights. Whether copyright protects research data depends on how the data is created, shared, and reused. Special considerations include determining who owns the copyright - the researcher, university, or research funder. Permission should always be checked when planning to share or reuse data due to variations in copyright laws between jurisdictions. Resources are provided to help researchers understand copyright as it relates to sharing and using research data, including on social media platforms.
The document discusses the difficulties of text and data mining (TDM) for a research project between the British Library and several universities. It summarizes that:
1) While the UK copyright law contains a TDM exception, it was not drafted with research partnerships in mind and does not allow the British Library to share digitized content with research partners.
2) Practical difficulties in assessing and obtaining permissions for the huge amount of copyrighted content were addressed through high-level content analysis, spot checks, and managing risks.
3) The British Library addressed legal difficulties by having partners temporarily join the library and access digitized content on a secure server, then deleting the content after use.
This document provides an overview of CLA's licence and product innovations across various sectors. Recent and upcoming enhancements include:
- Expanding the Digital Content Store with born-digital content for higher education.
- Implementing a per-chapter fee structure for document supply and continuing the 'Pay CFP' pilot.
- Growing the Education Platform's digital content and developing tools to better track educator reuse for schools/FE.
- Partnering to automate data collection from MFD scanning and develop apps/tools.
- Introducing new training and international education licences.
The Modernist Archives Publishing Project (MAPP) and Copyright CILIP
This document summarizes the work of the Modernist Archives Publishing Project (MAPP) and their copyright workstream. MAPP is a collaboration between several universities and cultural institutions to make archival materials freely available online. The copyright workstream led by Helena Clarkson of the University of Reading is responsible for clearing copyrights on the archival content. The summary discusses Clarkson's process of researching and contacting copyright holders, building flexibility into workflows, managing risks and relationships, and lessons learned from the project.
The quotation exception in educational and scholarly contextsCILIP
The quotation exception allows for use of copyrighted works without permission under certain conditions. It was introduced into UK law in 2014 and is broader than traditionally understood. Recent CJEU rulings have interpreted the scope of quotation to include use of entire works if needed for the purpose and in accordance with fair practice. Quotation could benefit cultural and education institutions by allowing greater expressive use of works, though unpublished works and commercial education uses may be more limited.
The document summarizes recent innovations by the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA). It discusses evolutions to CLA's Digital Content Store and licensing for higher education. For further education and schools, it outlines developments to the Education Platform and new data collection methods. Finally, it introduces two new CLA licenses: one for training organizations and another for international schools delivering a UK curriculum abroad.
The question of #ebookSOS: is copyright reform the answer?CILIP
This document discusses issues with ebook access and copyright legislation. It notes that ebooks are often only available in expensive bundles or large packages, and individual titles frequently become unavailable. Current copyright exceptions and licensing schemes are limited and restrict what users can do. The document proposes possible solutions like copyright reform, controlled digital lending, and open access models. It includes a quote supporting controlled digital lending as a way to make knowledge more accessible while respecting authors' rights.
This document summarizes Margaret Haig's presentation on exceptions to copyright. It discusses what types of works are protected by copyright (literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, films, broadcasts, sound recordings, published editions, and performances). It also outlines what is not protected by copyright (ideas, facts, and works where copyright has expired). The presentation explains different exceptions to copyright like fair dealing for non-commercial research and quotation, as well as exceptions that are useful for libraries, archives, museums, education, and more widely. It provides an overview of the orphan works licensing scheme and considerations for making new copyrighted materials.
