3. Dutchtown Middle School
Built in 1936
First classroom outfitted with dial-up Internet connection in 1995
1:1 Initiative and Blackboard implemented in 2010.
452 Students participate in the 1:1 initiative at DMS in the 2013-
2014 school year.

Adding Modules to
your Blackboard page.

5. My class set up
I teach about 90 - 6th grade
students per semester for a total of
180 students per year.
My students know
what to do before they enter the
room. They
come in sit down and get to work.

6. Procedures
Very important to the success of
the class!
Established on Day 1 and
reinforced daily.
Once established students will be
able to come in and work as soon
as they come in without teacher
instruction!!!

7. Blackboard
Has made my day in the
classroom easier.
Students are able to work
independently on varying levels
with little teacher prompting.
If absent they are able to access
the information at home.

11. To add items to your
home screen click on the
+ sign located top left of
your menu.

12. The following menu will
appear.

13. From there you can
addnew modules to the
menu. Click on the tools
menu to access Tools.

14. Let’s add a
Discussion Board.
Be sure to click the
box, Available to all
users first. That is so
students can access
the addition.

15. It will appear at the
bottom of your list.

16. The
Discussion
Board will
appear. Click
on create
Forum.

17. You type in the name you want to give the
discussion board and then in the main space
you type in your question or reading you want
the students to discuss. Then click submit.

18. You will have
to enter a
display date.
You will also
have settings
to choose.

19. The setting
options vary.
I do not allow
anonymous
posts.

20. Once you
have your
settings right.
You may
submit!
