The diagnosed cases of Breast cancer is increasing annually and unfortunately getting converted into a
high mortality rate. Cancer, at the early stages, is hard to detect because the malicious cells show similar
properties (density) as shown by the non-malicious cells. The mortality ratio could have been minimized if
the breast cancer could have been detected in its early stages. But the current systems have not been able
to achieve a fully automatic system which is not just capable of detecting the breast cancer but also can
detect the stage of it. Estimation of malignancy grading is important in diagnosing the degree of growth of
malicious cells as well as in selecting a proper therapy for the patient. Therefore, a complete and efficient
clinical decision support system is proposed which is capable of achieving breast cancer malignancy
grading scheme very efficiently. The system is based on Image processing and machine learning domains.
Classification Imbalance problem, a machine learning problem, occurs when instances of one class is
much higher than the instances of the other class resulting in an inefficient classification of samples and
hence a bad decision support system. Therefore EUSBoost, ensemble based classifier is proposed which is
efficient and is able to outperform other classifiers as it takes the benefits of both-boosting algorithm with
Random Undersampling techniques. Also comparison of EUSBoost with other techniques is shown in the
paper.

This session gives an overview of the importance of precision medicine in cancer treatment and describes an approach used by UVA in the TREC 2018 Precision Medicine workshop. The PM track aims to encourage research into precision oncology medicine to provide more relevant information to physicians and researchers.
For this task we ranked articles from a corpus of bio-medical article abstracts from PubMed and MEDLINE for relevance for the treatment, prevention, and prognosis of the disease given specific medical information about each patient.

Cancer is one of the most challenging diseases and up until now. One of the most challenging things about cancer treatment is not the cure itself but the differentiation between the tumor cells and the normal cells. Most of the medical treatments of the cancer today cannot differentiate between the cancer cells and the normal one as well as it damages the hall tissue and it is still considered as a low-effect treatment to be applied in cancer. One of the most popular treatments of this kind is chemotherapy which is known for damaging the hall cells, cancer, and normal ones. Our research is focusing on generating a new therapy that can target the cancer cell itself so it will give us more efficiency ratio to stop cancer and will keep the other cells without any damage. We will use an antibody body for the protein antigen ErbB-2 which is located rabidly in the lung cancer cells' membrane surface. These antibodies will be produced by the immune system so it will target the tumor cells especially and stop the cell growth and damage it in some cases.

This course introduces the student to the basic principles of illness and disease commonly seen in the health care environment. Topics may include infectious and noninfectious diseases, environmental health, and the promotion of good health practices. In addition, students will be introduced to common disease and medical procedure terminology.

· The human lifespan seems to be limited to 80 -100 years (cross-cultural, multi-ethnic) with some exceptions (to 115+ years)
· Life expectancy among genders and races (& socio-economic groups) varies due to standard of living, cultural behaviors (diet, risk taking behaviors, etc)
· In general, women have higher life expectancy than men (possibly due to cardiovascular disease developing later in life).
· Multiple theories of aging:
· Somatic mutation theory: cells are "programmed" to mutate & die after a limited number of divisions (ceiling to possible number of cell divisions of all human cells); possibly due to accumulated defects in mitochondria over time (cells can no longer extract energy from foodstuffs).
· The molecular clock and the Hayflick Limit: after each cell division, the chromosome becomes shortened at the telomere (the tip of the chromosome). Eventually, the shortening is so great that the replicating enzymes can't "read" the chromosome to replicate it, and the cell can no longer divide – this is sometimes called the “Hayflick limit” … this prevents cells from indefinite reproduction, otherwise called the "molecular clock”
· Catastrophic theory: also called the "complexity theory (really a "chaos" theory) of accumulated mistakes in DNA transcription & translation & the inability of the cells and organs to function together in response to the normal stresses of the environment. This results in adaptive dysfunction and organ derangements leading to organism disease as well as the "normal" process of aging & death. Helps explain associated neurological changes with advanced age.
· Neuroendocrine theory: the brain is "programmed" to stop producing needed supportive hormonal factors.
· Extracellular degenerative theory: accumulation of disease over time due to environmental factors.
· Modifiable factors? Can we turn back the hands of time (or at least slow them down)?

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
