Personalized medicine uses biomarkers found in the body to tailor medical treatment to an individual's specific genetics, biology and disease. While this approach promises to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs, it also raises issues regarding privacy and the potential for genetic discrimination. However, personalized medicine is already being adopted by some large pharmacy benefit managers and its use will likely expand as the cost of genome sequencing continues to drop significantly.
