Viewers have given Birmingham’s newly launched TV channel Big Centre TV the big thumbs
down – labelling it “rubbish,” “painfully slow” and “trash.”
The local broadcaster launched last night (Saturday, February 28) but it appears to have hit a bum
note with viewers who also claimed it was “sombre and dreary”.
On the Birmingham Mail’s Facebook page some people posted their idea:
Darren O’Donnell: “I gave it 10 minutes then got bored and turned it off, went back later, got
crossroads! Wont be going back anytime soon.”
Pat Kennedy simply said: “Rubbish!”
Ray Woods said: “All new TV is slow to take off and this was no different. I expected it to hit the
ground running, but it was painfully slow over intellectualised and self indulgent.
“However, give it time – we need local output since ITV gave it up.
Kaleidoscope, a Midlands-based voluntary organisation specialising in television history,
were granted a licence to establish a local television station in November 2014, following
the collapse of City8, a proposed station centred on the Birmingham area, which went
into administration after failing to secure sufficient funding. Kaleidoscope were given ten
minutes notice that their bid had been successful before an official announcement was
made by the regulatory body Ofcom.
The new license, initially known as Kaleidoscope TV, was given an Ofcom deadline of
Saturday 28 February 2015 to launch. Big Centre TV is jointly run by Kaleidoscope owner
Chris Perry and former ATV announcer and television executive Mike Prince, the station's
director of programming who was previously involved with the aborted City8 license.
Big Centre TV's studios at the Goldmine Centre in Walsall are shared with the town's studio
school, where students are able to gain work experience with the channel as part of their
studies.
In April 2015 it was reported that the Canadian media company Trek 2000 had invested
in Big Centre TV as it sought to gain a foothold in the British television market

Evaluation
This is very a good idea, which we can have local stories with global reach in terms of Big Centre TV
Slogan but I think they need more concentrate about program content, although its a inception and
They need time and feedback to improve their channel. These days with new technology we can find
Lots of online TVs or even different programs in YouTube or other online websites which are presenting
Diversity shows with high quality, hence when we looking at Bog Centre TV there is lack of quality as
They trying to have diversity.
If some organization want to attract audience from around the world, they need to have a international
Team whose can bring different ideas from different cultures. With all the critics from different people, I
Think it could be a good opportunity for all the young students or new generation who have idea about
Making program if Big centre TV linked the station to some colleges or universities and start to work with
Students who already are doing relevant courses to media. You can find huge example of these kind of
Connection in some companies such as; Sky, BBC, ITV and etc.
