Key OTT (Over-The-Top) Market Trends in 2015 by Michael Ritchie.
In broadcasting, over-the-top content (OTT) refers to delivery of audio, video, and other media over the Internet without the involvement of a multiple-system operator in the control or distribution of the content. The Internet provider may be aware of the contents of the Internet Protocol packets but is not responsible for, nor able to control, the viewing abilities, copyrights, and/or other redistribution of the content.
Consumers can access OTT content through internet-connected devices such as desktop and laptop computers, gaming consoles (such as the PlayStation 4, WiiU, and Xbox One), set-top boxes (such as the Roku), smartphones (including Android phones, iPhones, and Windows phones), smart TVs (such as Google TV), and tablets.
This document is TiVo's Q4 2016 Video Trends Report which analyzes survey results from over 3,000 consumers regarding their pay-TV, streaming, and viewing habits. Some key findings include: 17% of respondents no longer have pay-TV service, with price being the top reason for cutting cord. Nearly half of respondents could potentially leave their current pay-TV provider in the next 6 months. Respondents want more flexible channel options and a combined streaming interface from providers to improve value and reduce churn. Overall satisfaction remains high but price and customer service generate the most dissatisfaction.

Why Over-the-Top is the Future of CommunicationsBrough Turner
The document discusses how over-the-top (OTT) services like Skype, Netflix, and social media will become the dominant form of communication. It notes that 1-3 year predictions about technology adoption are often too optimistic, but the actual long-term outcomes are more transformative than expected. As bandwidth availability increases with technologies like 4G LTE, OTT services will handle more data-intensive applications like video calling and streaming. The document concludes that OTT is already becoming the primary way people access voice and video, and this transition will only accelerate over time.
A Telco Road to OTT TV - Telco 2.0 Executive Brainstorm, 29.4.2010Antonio Pavolini
The document discusses emerging trends in online video consumption and prosumer content. It notes that barriers to video creation and distribution have lowered, allowing creators to produce high-quality content at lower costs. Meanwhile, streaming sites and video sharing have become mainstream. Prosumer content creators are motivated by sharing and self-promotion rather than direct monetization, as business models for the "long tail" are still emerging. Traditional broadcasters see web distribution as both an opportunity and a threat to their business models.
Digital content is becoming hot and growing crazy, which has undoubtedly been a source of disruption in premium cable channels. There is a steady transition from cable box to the over-the-top internet connection. Read more https://bit.ly/3vNFUxA
The document discusses how over-the-top (OTT) media like Netflix has disrupted the traditional cable TV landscape and revenue models. Specifically, it notes that OTT allows for non-linear programming across multiple platforms like mobile. This has led cable companies to offer unbundled subscription options without franchise agreements. Meanwhile, content owners are demanding higher licensing fees for popular shows. Overall, the media industry is shifting to focus more on quality content, analytics and new models like subscription, advertising, and product placement as distribution moves increasingly to wireless networks.
The document discusses the state of 4K/Ultra-HD broadcasting and future prospects. Experts provide perspectives on the readiness of the industry and challenges. While 4K TV and trial broadcasts are increasing, widespread adoption faces challenges around availability of content and infrastructure upgrades. 8K broadcasts are being pioneered in Japan but broad deployment is not expected for several years. Future standards will need to balance advancing technology with supporting existing systems.
Cloudwiredtv provides a hybrid cloud broadcasting solution that allows content to be delivered to any device. Their HD-MDN platform uses adaptive encoding to stream HD quality video to phones, tablets, set-top boxes, TVs and more. This allows broadcasters and network operators to deliver content across multiple screens and generate new revenue streams through video subscriptions and packages. The challenge is optimizing delivery across different networks and devices to provide high quality streaming.
Motama offers a complete set of products for building IPTV and OTT networks, including hardware and software for content distribution. Their products include gateways for converting broadcasts to IP streams, encoders/transcoders for formatting content, and streaming servers supporting various delivery protocols. A unified video delivery architecture is proposed to increase bandwidth utilization by adapting streams to devices and supporting multicast delivery to reduce network traffic. Building a successful OTT strategy requires defining the target market, choosing a business model, acquiring content rights, developing a flexible platform, designing workflows, packaging content appropriately, determining pricing, marketing effectively, and leveraging user demographics.

A Set-top-Box (STB) is a very common name heard in the consumer electronics market. It is a device that is attached to a Television for enhancing its functions or the quality of its functions. On the other side, the STB is connected to an external source of signal, like satellite, cable, terrestrial or internet. The STB processes the signal it receives, turns it into content, which is then displayed on the television screen or other display device. There are different types of STBs based on what kind of signals it can receive and what kind of processing it can do. The most widely used STBs are DVB STBs, which receive DVB (Digital Video Broadcast) transmission.
