The survey found that youth are more likely to use libraries than older age groups. Youth are more likely to visit libraries, check out books, use computers and the internet. In contrast, older citizens are less likely to visit libraries or attend computer courses. Children under 13 have the highest library visitation rate at 54.5%, which decreases with age. Youth tend to use libraries for leisure activities and see them as a place to access information, computers and the internet. Libraries should target youth in advertising new services as they are the most frequent users and advocates. Reaching older users will be more difficult but also more impactful for changing stereotypes.
