1. The Concept House project aimed to develop a sustainable house through industrialized construction methods. It was led by professors at Delft University of Technology with support from building companies and suppliers.
2. The project brought together various stakeholders including universities, building companies, and local governments. It sought to gain knowledge, conduct research, and stimulate industry through the development of innovative construction techniques.
3. The completed Concept House prototype in Rotterdam demonstrated an industrialized construction approach using prefabricated materials. However, the assembly process revealed integration challenges between the designs of different partners.
Modular Construction Cubix Othello Multifamily Case StudyJuliana Vélez
This presentation showcases a multi-family project built using modular construction: Cubix Othello in Seattle. The material includes lessons learned from different perspectives: project owner, architect and modular builder. The case study was of the MOD X Northwest, an event focused on an emerging offsite modular industry and region, the Pacific Northwest.
JMA is excited to be teaming up with NexGen Housing Partners and Metric Modular at MOD X Northwest, February 5-7th!

Here is his presentation, which has some great insights into the course (and the industry) for anyone thinking of embarking on a career in engineering.
Topology Optimization as a technique in multidisciplinary student projectsAltair
In cooperation with the Hongik University in Seoul/South Korea and a partner of the automotive industry the chair and institute for engineering design (ikt), RWTH Aachen annually operates the course “Cooperative Product Design”. In this one-semester course a group of German and Korean students has to fulfil the task to develop an e-mobility car concept. Each year a particular task is given by the industrial partner. The student group consists of 10 Korean car design students as well as 10 Korean and 10 German mechanical engineering students. Part of the course is a 10-day-visit of each nationality to both Germany and Seoul. In between the visits the students communicate using web-conference tools and a PDM-System. In 2014 Audi, as the industrial partner, assigned the task of a minimal mobility e-car concept. Since mini mobility concepts tend to have a bad image considering safety, the main focus was to develop a safe and sound body – structure wise and design wise. The way to accomplish that aim was to build a lightweight but stiff cabin. To achieve this goal the students made use of the software Solid Thinking Inspire (Version 9.5). All students were firstly coached about some theoretical background to get a better understanding of how Topology Optimization works numerically and how it can be integrated into the design process. Subsequently they began to work with basic tutorials before referring their design proposals to Solid Thinking Inspire. The presentation will focus on the how the students were able to integrate the software into their project work. Markedly different approaches of design and engineering students could be detected. These results as well as difficulties that occurred during the process will be highlighted. The final optimized structures as well as how they were included into the overall concepts considering software and design will be presented. Eventually it will be discussed how the tool “Topology Optimization” can be successfully integrated into future projects in education.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

34. Technical evaluation
1
Transition traditional to IDF mindset
• Partner Unica used to measure bathrooms. Not necessary
anymore.
• Partner MdR was confronted with another steel building
sequence.
• Partner VDM had calculated 1500 KG for the bathroom.
This turned out to be 4000 KG, leading to many unexpected
adaptations.
• The Solarlux façade was not adapted for housing.
• The FAAY electrical wall channels were not tuned with the
timber building structure of VDM.
11/7/2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
34
35. Technical evaluation
2
• Insufficient attention for flexibility, resulting in problems in
electrical installation.
• Flexibility lacked between floors and walls by partner Unica.
• The electricity channels in the floor not properly produced.
• The drawings of FAAY came too late.
• FAAY refused flexible wiring in the ceiling.
• Electric wiring in the façade by VDM became unattainable by
the outside ceramic cladding.
• Holes for toilets were not realised in the factory but on the
spot.
7-11-2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
35
36. Technical evaluation
3
• The screws for mounting inner walls to floor were too long.
• Integration partner Niko (Home control) and Itho
(Autotemp) turned out to be impossible, because of
intellectual property.
• A decentralised ventilation system of Renson per room, was
taken at the last moment
• The architecture of the installation space had to be
changed dramatically at the last moment and improvised.
• Partner Unica was too late with detailing and drawing result
inefficient use of space.
7-11-2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
36
37. Technical evaluation
4
• Rainwater drainage was forgotten.
• Partner Icopal ordered insufficient materials. Improvisation
is necessary.
• Partner VDM changes drawings, made by TU Delft. Partner
Justimax had to draw the cladding a second time.
• The holes in the ceramic tiles of partner Mosa were
wrongly drilled. 120 m2 has to be redone.
• Obsolete tiles could be returned to Mosa for recycling. But
the tiles went to a common waste processor.
• Consoles for the solar protection system of partner Renson
came too late. Causing extra hiring of aerial platform.
7-11-2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
37
38. Technical evaluation
5
• The edge of the roof is not realized according to
drawings, resulting in improvisation.
• Inaccurate connection between the inner walls on the
structure of VDM were done by forbidden PUR.
• The ceiling was made seamless although industrial seams
were acceptable.
• Materials as the floor made installation dangerous and
troublesome.
7-11-2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
38
39. Conclusions
1
• A step into sustainable building practice
• For cooperation between companies and universities is a
challenge.
• It is difficult to involve companies in futuristic developments.
• The strategy to build a complete house turned out to be
effective. All parties participated with a great motivation.
• The project disturbs the primary process of the companies.
• Parties are experienced better results.
• The change of project leaders at TU Delft gave instability.
• Necessary permission next steps of finance determined
further possibilities.
7-11-2013
Wim Poelman, Concept House
39
40. Conclusions
2
• Difficult to plan a project in changing.
• Experimenting and building are no friends.
• Difficult to mobilize knowledge at the university and to link it
to practical experience of companies.
• The culture at the university did not contributed to the
project. However the guts and perseverance happen to be
present in the chair holder Mick Eekhout.
• Politics form an important success factor. Not only the
product, but also the context is important.
• Concept House Village might be a useful platform just as
Booosting and Barba House.
