This document discusses best practices in software architecture. It describes the Software Engineering Institute and its focus on improving software engineering practices. It discusses the importance of quality attributes in architectural design and how to specify quality attributes through scenarios. Tactics and patterns are presented as tools architects can use to achieve quality attributes. The Attribute-Driven Design method and Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method are introduced as approaches to creating and evaluating architectures.
This is take two of the presentation, some things added, some removed, but still the regurgitation is best..
The purpose is to raise your awareness of software architecture in light of modern day agile development. Disciplines to incorporate and reconsider
Title: The Role of the Software Architect
Speaker: Hayim Makabee, co-founder of the Israeli Chapter of the International Association of Software Architects (IASA)
Abstract:
In this talk Hayim will present the practical aspects of the role of the Software Architect, including:
- The four areas of expertise: Design, Domain, Technology and Methodology.
- The cooperation with stakeholders: Developers, Team Leaders, Project Managers, QA and Technical Writers.
Understanding the expected areas of expertise is essential for the architect to develop his/her professional skills.
Understanding how to cooperate with the diverse stakeholders is essential to improve the architect's impact and effectiveness.
In the last two decades, refactoring for code and design smells have received considerable focus from both academia and industry. This talk covers large scale refactoring for architectural smells which is gaining considerable attention from the software engineering community in the last few years. The main focus is on real-world case-studies and experiences in performing large scale refactoring for architectural smells from both industrial and open source projects. This talk will provide useful pointers to the participants on how to deal with refactoring for architectural smells in real-world contexts; further, it will also suggest research questions for the software engineering community to explore.
Software design principles for evolving architecturesFirat Atagun
While embracing software design principles, architectural patterns are studied in this presentation. Principles like, KISS, YAGNI, SOLID are used for software development. Also architectural patterns are presented: Layered Architecture, Event Driven Architecture, MicroKernel and Microservices can be found.

The data design action translates data objects into data structures at the software component level.
Data Design is the first and most important design activity. Here the main issue is to select the appropriate data structure i.e. the data design focuses on the definition of data structures.
Data design is a process of gradual refinement, from the coarse "What data does your application require?" to the precise data structures and processes that provide it. With a good data design, your application's data access is fast, easily maintained, and can gracefully accept future data enhancements.

Building and Scaling High Performing Technology Organizations by Jez Humble a...Agile India
High performing organizations don't trade off quality, throughput, and reliability: they work to improve all of these and use their software delivery capability to drive organizational performance. In this talk, Jez presents the results from DevOps Research and Assessment's five-year research program, including how continuous delivery and good architecture produce higher software delivery performance, and how to measure culture and its impact on IT and organizational culture. They explain the importance of knowing how (and what) to measure so you focus on what’s important and communicate progress to peers, leaders, and stakeholders. Great outcomes don’t realize themselves, after all, and having the right metrics gives us the data we need to keep getting better at building, delivering, and operating software systems.

In this webinar, Dennis Belanger, CMRP and Vice President of MRG, a Maintenance and Reliability Consulting and Engineering firm, shares the "Top 10 Best Maintenance Practices for Your CMMS" which are based on MRG's 25 years experience working with clients. A CMMS is just a tool, without designated procedures and administration, you will be unsuccessful with your implementation. No matter where you are in the CMMS process, the list below can help you get the most out of your CMMS:
1.Improve your practices
2.Define your processes in detail
3.Build high quality accurate data
4.Don't forget culture change
5.Don't take short cuts
6.Use spiral learning
7.System training vs. software training
8.Build a long term plan
9.Paper reduction does not equal admin reduction
10.Put someone in charge

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
