This document summarizes the results of a survey given to 10,000 UVU students about their awareness and understanding of academic resources and processes. The survey found that first-generation students had less confidence in the college application and financial aid processes before beginning college compared to non-first generation students. It also found that first-generation students had less understanding of common academic terms like syllabus, transcripts, and FAFSA before college. Additionally, first-generation students have lower educational expectations than non-first generation students, both before and during college. The document concludes that UVU could improve helping students and parents understand enrollment, administration, and financial aid.
