- 1. Benefits to OER 1. One of the most important benefits in my opinion is that of saving money for students! 2. Teachers are sharing their subject matter knowledge with others. 3. Sustainability 4. Providing access to anyone who would like to learn about a subject; they do not need to be enrolled in a school. 5. Students will continue to have access to the resource after the class has finished.
- 2. Challenges of OER 1. Not all subjects have a large amount of resources in OER. 2. Some students may not have access to a computer at home (A positive: netbook rentals are very inexpensive through our library). 3. Students may be skeptical of OER because of a lack of community understanding. 4. The information the teacher is seeking may not come in the form of simply one OER textbook; it may need to come from multiple sources. 5. Schools and departments may not be on board with OER.
