The document outlines both the benefits and challenges of open educational resources (OER). The benefits include increased creativity for instructors, lower costs for students, potential for higher enrollment, flexibility in learning, and greater equity of access. However, the challenges are that materials may become outdated, developing fully OER courses can be time-consuming, not all materials are accessible, licenses cannot manage future use, and instructors require funding for the extra work.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. Benefits of OER
1. Creativity
2. Low cost
3. Increased enrollment
4. Flexibility
5. Equity
3. Benefits of OER – Creativity
›OER can give instructors
more opportunities to be
creative in their work. Since
there is no cost associated
with OER, instructors can
pull in materials from
different recourses.

4. Benefits of OER – Low Cost
The prospect of reducing cost of the
course materials for students very
crucial.

5. Benefits of OER - Increased enrollment
I can see OER becoming very
popular among prospective
students in the future. It may
become a decisive factor for a
student to choose a particular
school.

6. Benefits of OER - Flexibility
With OER, both students and
teachers can have flexibility in the
place, time, and manner they
engage with the learning materials.

7. Benefits of OER - Equity
OER helps to create a more open
access to education opportunities for
a wider student population.

8. Challenges of OER
1. Outdated materials
2. Time-consuming
3. Accessibility
4. Non-revocable licenses
5. Funding
9. Challenges of OER - Outdated Materials
Some material currently available
on OER resource sites is outdated
(2002, 2004, 2006, 2007).

10. Challenges of OER - Time-consuming
In order to develop an fully OER
course, an instructor would have to
invest tremendous amount of time
to search for appropriate materials
for their classes and evaluate their
quality.

11. Challenges of OER - Accessibility
Not all OER materials are
accessible which can potentially a
legal issue for those institutions
who adopt them.

12. Challenges of OER - Non-revocable licenses
If materials are published under CC
licenses, they can be used by
anyone under those license terms.
So it is impossible for to manage
how and by who the materials are
being used.

13. Challenges of OER - Funding
Since developing OER courses
could be very time-consuming
process, instructors will need to be
paid extra for the amount of extra
work they put in.
