RAM is a type of volatile memory that is used for temporary storage. It allows data to be accessed randomly in any order. There are different types of RAM such as static RAM, dynamic RAM, SDRAM, and DDR SDRAM. RAM is part of a memory hierarchy that includes processor registers, cache memory levels L1-L3, main memory, and virtual memory. Future RAM technologies aim to provide memory that is smaller, faster, and cheaper than current memory chips.
Main memory is made up of RAM and ROM chips. RAM is read-write memory that can be accessed randomly; data is lost when power is off. There are static and dynamic RAM types. Static RAM retains data indefinitely if powered, dynamic RAM must be periodically refreshed. ROM is read-only and permanently stores data. There are mask, PROM, EPROM and EEPROM ROM types that can be programmed at different stages. Cache memory uses fast static RAM. Main memory often uses dynamic RAM for its ability to store large amounts of data at lower cost despite slower access.

The motherboard is the main circuit board in a computer that connects all the parts together. It contains the CPU, memory, expansion slots, and buses that electrically connect all the components. Key parts of the motherboard include the CPU socket, memory sockets, BIOS chip, heat sink, cooling fan, and CMOS battery. The motherboard comes in different form factors like ATX, microATX, and BTX that determine the size and layout of the board.
The document discusses different types of computer memory technologies. It describes primary memory, which is directly accessible by the CPU and includes RAM and ROM. RAM is further divided into SRAM and DRAM. SRAM retains data as long as power is on, while DRAM requires periodic refreshing. ROM includes PROM, which can be programmed once, and EPROM, which can be erased and reprogrammed. Secondary memory, like hard disks, is non-volatile storage that is less expensive than primary memory. Caches improve memory access speed by storing the most recently used data from main memory.
High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) is a high-speed stacked memory interface used in high-performance graphics cards and supercomputers. HBM achieves higher bandwidth than GDDR5 using 3D stacking of DRAM dies and through-silicon vias. The first HBM was produced in 2013, and the technology has since progressed through HBM2, HBM2E, and upcoming HBMnext standards, doubling bandwidth with each generation. HBM is used to provide massive memory bandwidth for applications such as graphics processing and AI.
RAM stands for random access memory and is used as temporary storage for data retrieved from the hard drive. The first modern form of RAM was released in 1969 by Intel, which created the 64-bit 3101 Shottky Bipolar memory. RAM has evolved significantly since then through improvements. Static RAM (SRAM) holds its data without refreshing as long as power is supplied, while dynamic RAM (DRAM) must be regularly refreshed to maintain data and is the most common type used in computers. Read-only memory (ROM) is programmed with fixed data during manufacturing and is used to store firmware for booting devices.

DB2 for z/OS - Starter's guide to memory monitoring and controlFlorence Dubois
DB2 for z/OS makes more and more use of REAL memory to improve performance and reduce cost. But if you don't carefully budget and monitor the use of REAL memory on your system, you could be putting your applications at risk. This presentation will go back to the basics and answer the most common questions about REAL memory management including: how does DB2 uses virtual and REAL memory? how to build a budget based on system settings and buffer pool sizes? how to size the LFAREA? what are the key performance indicators and how do I know I am running 'safely'? what can be done to protect the system?

3. Veriyi tutabilme açısından iki bellek durumu
incelenebilir.
• Geçici bellekler veriyi tutabilmek için elektrik
akımına ihtiyaç duyan tiplerdir. RAM (Random
Access Memory).
• Geçici olmayan bellekler veriyi tutmak için elektrik
akımına ihtiyaç duymayan tiplerdir. ROM (Read
Only Memory),Sabit diskler, disketler, CD, DVD
gibi optik ortamlar, teypler bu sınıfa girer.
3
4. Bellek ve Performans
Bilgisayara bellek eklendiğinde performansın arttığı bilinen bir
gerçektir. Bellek üzerinde işlemciye gereken verilerin
konulacağı yeterli alan yoksa, bilgisayar virtual memory (sanal
demektir.
4
5. Bilgisayarda Bulunan Bellek
Türleri
Bilgisayarda bellek tipleri; ROM, RAM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM,
Flash Memory, Önbellek olarak sayılabilir.
ROM BELLEK (Read Only Memory – Sadece Okunur Bellek):
Programların kalıcı olarak durduğu sadece okunabilen bellek tipidir. Veri
sadece ROM bellekten elde edilebilir.
• 1 byte 8 Bit
• 1 Kilo Byte (KB) 1024 Byte
• 1 Mega Byte (MB) 1024 KB
• 1 Giga Byte (GB) 1024 MB
• 1 Tera Byte (TB) 1024 GB’dir
6
7. RAM ve ROM ARASINDAKI FARK NEDIR?
Bilgisayarınızı ilk açtığınız zaman, bilgisayar ilk nerden
başlayacağını nasıl biliyor dersiniz? İşte burası ROM un
devreye girdiği yerdir. Her bilgisayar mutlaka ROM belleğe
sahip olmalıdır. ROM bellek hafızanın bir parçasıdır ve
içerdiği bilgi değiştirilemez. Genellikle bu komutlar,
işletim sistemi- nin, yazılabilir ve silinebilir belleğe
yerleşmesini sağlarlar. İşte bu belleğe de RAM denir.
Belkide RAM için, RWM (Read/Write Memory) demiş
olsaydık daha iyi olurdu. Çünkü bu onun rolünü daha açık
ortaya koymaktadır. Genellikle konuşmada, ROM hafıza
birimleri içerisinde aynı bilgiyi taşıyan RAM hafıza
birimlerinden daha hızlı cevap verirler.
7
8. DRAM (Dynamic RAM)
Günümüz kişisel bilgisayarlarında kullanılan en popüler
bellektir.
1) SDRAM ( Senkronize DRAM )
2) DDR SDRAM ( Double Data Rate SDRAM )
3) DDR SDRAM ( Double Data Rate SDRAM )
8
9. SDRAM ( Senkronize DRAM ) :
Adından da anlaşılacağı üzere senkronize, yani
sistem veriyolu hızı ile aynı hızda çalışan
demektir. SDRAM , masaüstü bilgisayarlar, iş
istasyonları, grafik adaptörler, hızlandırıcılar vs…
9
10. DDR SDRAM ( Double Data Rate SDRAM ) :
DDR SDRAM teknolojisi gelecek vaadeden bir bellek
teknolojisidir. Teorik olarak DDR SDRAM bellekler
SDRAM belleğin sunduğu bant genişliğinin iki katını
sunuyor. Buradan yola çıkarak teorik olarak 133 Mhz hıza
sahip olan DDR bellek 266 Mhz hıza sahip olan SD bellek
ile aynı performansı verecektir. DDR Ram'in verimliliği
SDRAM'den en az %10 daha iyidir. DDR Ram mevcut
12
13. SRAM (Static RAM)
Statik RAM elektrik olduğu sürece içinde veri
bitlerini saklayan bir RAM’dir. DRAM’lerden
farklı olarak bilgilerin güncellenmesi
gerekmemektedir. Bu da SRAM’leri hızlı yapan
en önemli özelliktir.
PROM (Programable Read Only
Memory Programlanabilir Yalnızca
okunur bellek)
PROM’un özellikleri temelde ROM’la aynıdır. Bir
kez programlanır ve bir daha programı
değiştirilemez ya da silinemez.
13
14. EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory
EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Read Only Memory Elektiksel
olarak silinebilen programlanabilen Yalnızca okunur bellek) ve
FLASH MEMORY:
16
17. SO DIMM’ler
Genellikle notebook bilgisayarlarda kullanılan bellek tipine Small Outline
DIMM yada kısaca SO DIMM adı verilir. DIMM ile SO DIMM
arasındaki fark adından da anlaşılacağı gibi SO DIMM’in notebook
72-pin SO DIMM 32 bit’i ve 144-pin SO DIMM 64 bit’i
destekler.
17
18. RIMM’ler ve SO-RIMM’ler
RIMM, Direct Rambus bellek modülünün ticari markasıdır. RIMM’ler
RIMM’ler
verileri 16-bitlik paketler halinde aktarırlar. Hızlı erişim ve aktarım hızı nedeniyle
modüller daha fazla ısınır. Modülün ve yongaların aşırı ısınmasını önlemek için
RIMM modüllerinde modülün her iki yüzünü kaplayan “ısı dağıtıcısı” adı verilen
alüminyum kılıf kullanılır.SO-RIMM, SO DIMM’e benzer fakat Rambus
teknolojisi kullanılarak üretilmiştir.
18
19. FLASH BELLEK
Flash bellek, güç kesildiğinde
silinmeme, yeniden yazılabilme
ve kararlı bir yapıya sahip
olması ile bellek ve sabit disk
özelliklerinin bir araya geldiği
bir üründür. Flash bellek,
elektronik verileri tıpkı DRAM
gibi bellek hücrelerinde saklar,
ancak bir sabit disk gibi
çalışarak güç kesildiğinde
içerisinde ki verilerin
silinmemesini sağlar. Yüksek
hızı, dayanıklılığı ve düşük güç
gereksinimi ile flash bellek
pekçok alanda kullanılmak için
idealdir. Örneğin; Dijital
fotoğraf makineleri, cep
telefonları, yazıcılar, avuçiçi
bilgisayarlar, çağrı cihazları ve
ses kaydedici cihazlar....
19
22
23. MultimediaCard (MMC) ve
Secure Digital (SD)
MMC ve SD kartlar yüzeysel olarak
aynı boyuttalar ve cihazınız eğer SD
kart detekliyorsa, buna MMC kartları
da takabilirsiniz. Yani bir uyumluluk
söz konusu. Fakat sadece MMC
destekli bir aygıta SD kart
takamazsınız. SD kartlar, MMC
kartlardan daha kalın olduğundan
böyle bir uyumsuzluk oluyor. Kalın
olma sebebi ise farklı kontrolcü ve
yapısal iç değişikliklerin olmasıdır.
SD kartlar özellikle PDA'larda
oldukça yaygın bir şekilde
kullanılıyor. Dijital fotoğraf
makinalarında, MP3 player'larda ve
diğer taşınabilir cihazlarda kullanımı
var.
