Aja Steele got pregnant at 17 years old and was initially scared and upset about telling her parents. She isolated herself for a while but eventually got excited about the baby, realizing it was a gift and that God believed she could be a great mother. When young mothers get pregnant, people often look down on them and doubt their ability to care for a child, but Aja says to ignore critics and do what is right for her and her baby.

Being pregnant young
I got pregnant when I was 17 years old, yeah I’m young but that’s what happens when
you have sex. When I found out I cried because I didn’t know what my parents were going to
say or think and I was scared and upset with myself. I knew from that moment on my whole life
would change; it would no longer be about just me. Things were a little weird at home after
finding out I was pregnant, I found myself isolating myself from everyone. But as the days went
on things got better and I got excited about my baby because I realized that it was a gift and
god blessed me with something precious because he thought I would be a great mother.
When you get pregnant young you’re always going to have people looking down on you
and making you feel like you can’t be a good mother. There are always people who are going to
try to have something to say period about you and taking care of the baby just because you are
young and they think you’re not capable of taking care of your child. But that’s okay just keep
your head up and let people talk and do what’s right and best for you and your child.
