LZR®-WIDESCAN Technical Training Objectives
5. • LASER-based sensor designed for
industrial and other harsh environments
• NEMA 4/IP65 Rating
• 6’6” – 19’6” mounting height
• Center or left mount
• Background independent
• Multiple modes of detection
What is an LZR®-WIDESCAN?
6. • The sensor emits a field of 7 LASER curtains.
• The sensor uses information from these lasers
to measure width, depth, height, direction, and
speed of any object that comes into the field of
view.
• Based on this information, the sensor can
detect or ignore traffic depending on the mode
of detection.
How does it work?
8. • Only detects objects in motion
• Max. width and depth based on mounting height
(1.2:1)
• Can reject pedestrians based on size
– based on object width; groups of pedestrians can be
considered a “vehicle”
• 5 directional settings
• Improved late-turning traffic
• Field starting point, width, and depth are
independently adjustable to the inch
• Defaulted to Relay (output 3)
Motion
MOTION
10. • Detects stationary or moving objects
• Max. width and depth based on mounting height
(1.2:1)
• Can reject pedestrians based on size
– based on object width; groups of pedestrians can be
considered a “vehicle”
• Max. Presence Time (aka: Auto Learn Time)
– 9 settings; as low as 30 seconds, as high as Infinity
(default)
• Field starting point, width, and depth are
independently adjustable to the inch
• Defaulted to Output 2
Presence
11. • Detects stationary or moving objects
• Max. width and depth based on mounting height
(1.2:1)
• No rejection filter
• Max. Presence Time (aka: Auto Learn Time)
– 9 settings; as low as 30 seconds, as high as Infinity
(default)
– will only learn objects that are shorter than 18”
• Field always starts at curtain 1
• Field width and depth are independently adjustable to
the inch
• Defaulted to Output 1
Safety
12. • Detects only if an object is present in the Pull Cord
zone for at least 3 seconds
• Pull Cord zone can be anywhere in the Motion field
• New software coming soon will allow for up to 3 Pull
Cord zones and variable timing
Pull Cord
13. • Only detects objects within the Motion field that are
moving slower than the selected speed
• Must satisfy size, direction, and speed before
detection can occur
• Allows better filtering for cross-traffic
• 10 speed settings
Motion + Speed
14. • Only detects objects within the Motion field that are
taller than the selected height
• Must satisfy size, direction, and height before
detection can occur
• Allows for better pedestrian rejection
• 9 height selections
• Sensor must be mounted higher than height selection
• Detection tends to occur much closer to the door
Motion + Height
15. • Only detects objects within the Presence field that are
taller than the selected height
• Must satisfy size and height before detection can
occur
• Allows for better pedestrian rejection
• 9 height selections
• Sensor must be mounted higher than height selection
• Detection tends to occur much closer to the door
Presence + Height
(only available in software version 3.0)
16. • Allows Motion and Pull Cord feature to output on a
single relay
• Motion OR Pull Cord detection will close/open
selected output
Motion OR Pull Cord
OR
17. • Two available selections that allow for the 3 modes of
detection to be assigned to one output
• Detection on any of the three fields will close/open
selected output
• Allows for simple wiring
Motion/Pull Cord/Safety – Motion/Pull Cord/Presence
18. • 12 – 24 VAC, 12 – 30 VDC
• Less than 2.5 W without heater, 15 W with
• Red and black for power
• Black-striped wires for Output 1
• Red-striped wires for Output 2
• Green, white, and yellow wires for Relay
• Purple and purple/yellow for Monitoring
– No need to connect to power source like
LZR® -I30/H110/S600
Wiring
19. • Can be mounted center or anywhere left of center
• Minimum mounting height = 6’6
Maximum mounting height = 19’6”
• Motion/Presence/Safety field size maximums are
limited by mounting height
– Choosing the highest available mounting location will
provide the most options for sizing

20. • If needed, mount the rotation plate to the wall or bracket.
– bracket requires Adapter Plate to attach the sensor
• Mount sensor to rotation plate by aligning plates and turning sensor
clockwise
• Completely remove hard plastic cover and blue plastic film
• Connect plug and allow sensor to power up
• Turn on visible alignment lasers by hitting “OK” twice on LCD screen
• Adjust tilt/lateral/parallel by turning sensor or the three adjustment
screws
• Center red spots in opening by turning sensor on rotation plate
• Adjust tilt until desired distance from door/gate is achieved
• Tighten lock set screw on rotation plate to secure sensor
• Sensor is now ready for install teach-in
Center-Mount
21. • Same first steps as Center-Mount
• Launch Position Wizard after adjusting Lateral/Tilt/Parallel angles
– hold OK button for ~3 seconds
• Ensure red spots are centered in opening and press OK
• LCD screen instructs which direction to rotate sensor until pattern is centered in
opening
• When properly aligned, press OK again
• Tighten the lock set screw on the rotation plate to secure sensor
• Sensor is ready for the install teach-in
Left-Mount
23. • This step allows the sensor to learn its environment and should only have to be done one time.
• Launch Teach-In by remote control or at LCD
– from LCD: Quick Start/Teach-In/Install
• 1 minute to clear area
– from remote control: Unlock/Magic Wand/0
• 5 seconds to clear the area
Installation Teach-In
UNLOCK MAGIC WAND ZERO
24. • Sensor can be programmed using remote control or LCD panel
• Power sensor via mini-USB port and pre-program outputs and field sizes
• Motion/Presence/Safety field sizes are independently programmable using
remote control or LCD
• Certain features are programmable only using LCD
– Heater/NO or NC logic
• First-time installs and troubleshooting recommend using LCD for full view
of selections
Programming
MINI-USB
PORT
25. • Navigate through LCD menus by pressing OK, up and down arrows, and the back arrow
• Select using the OK button, and scroll up and down buttons
• SUGGESTION: Program field sizes and select outputs before launching the install teach-in
LCD Programming
26. • Independent adjustment of field sizes by using the color buttons on remote control
– old-style remote will not function
• Great for adjustments to field size and minor troubleshooting
• Can be difficult to program
• Helpful to stand under the sensor for best operation and view of LEDs
• Adjusts similarly to most BEA products
– Unlock starts programming session
• select parameter
• select parameter setting
• Lock, Lock
Remote Control Programming
PULL CORD SAFETY MOTION PRESENCE
27. • Programmable via remote control or LCD menu
• Software version 3.0 allows for multiple pull cords and adjustable activation delay times
Pull Cord Teach-In
Software version 2.2 Software version 3.0
28. • Heater
– 15 W when in operation
– two modes:
• Auto (preferred)
• Eco (power saver)
• Walk teach-in
– Motion/Presence/Safety
• all or independently
• App in development
– program using smart phone
Additional Features
29. • E5 Flatness error during installation
– occurs normally due to the area between and in front of alignment spots not being clear (e.g. tool box, dock
lock, drains)
– also occurs if you leave the cover on and hanging during Learn
• E5 Masking
– occurs when the sensor has an object or wall that could be obstructing view (typically seen during install with
adjacent wall to left of sensor)
• Use the LCD to verify settings. Ensure that the correct output is assigned to the desired function
• The Presence field will not auto-learn if the Safety field is in detection
• Eliminate unused fields; this helps to eliminate unnecessary LED flashes during troubleshooting
– if you only need Motion and Safety, set Presence width to 0
