USO:
Be going to ha due usi principali:
1. per parlare di piani ed intenzioni future:
• I’m going to buy a new mobile phone.
• Elisa isn’t going to be at the party.
• Are you going to tell him?
2. per fare previsioni di eventi di cui si vedono già le premesse:
• Look at the clock! We’re going to be late!
• There are some clouds in the sky, it’s going to rain!

FORMA:
Si usa la forma del presente di
Be + going to + forma base del verbo (infinito senza to)
NB: Si evita di dire «going to go» perché la ripetizione suona male,
quindi si dice solo I’m going to bed.
• I verbi che vengono usati più spesso con be going to sono:
Be, have, do, get, say, take, ask
Affermativa I’m going to watch TV She’s going to be late We’re going to leave
now
Negativa I’m not going to tell
you
Elisa isn’t going to be
there
They’re not going to do
it
Interrogativa Am I going to win? Is she going to buy it? When are you going to

Will ha due usi principali per riferirsi al futuro:
1. Una decisione spontanea (incluse richieste, offerte, promesse)
• I think I will (‘ll è la forma contratta) have a coffee.
• I will help you if you like
• I won’t (will+not) forget
2. Un modo «neutro» di riferirsi al futuro, spesso per esprimere azioni
che vengono viste come inevitabili o automatiche
• She will be sixteen in May.
• I’ll be at school all day tomorrow

Be going to e will sono spesso messi a confronto siccome tutti e due si
possono usare sia per esprimere eventi futuri che per fare previsioni.
Ma le differenze fondamentali sono:
1. Be going to si usa per parlare di qualcosa di pianificato o che si ha
intenzione di fare prima del momento in cui si parla, mentre will si
usa per esprimere decisioni spontanee prese nel momento in cui si
parla
2. Be going to si usa per fare previsioni fondate su premesse reali che
si manifestano già nel presente, mentre will si usa per fare
previsioni basate su sensazioni o opinioni personali
