The stave churches of Norway were a unique style of wooden church architecture developed by the Vikings between the 11th and 13th centuries after their conversion to Christianity. The churches were constructed entirely of wood using tall vertical posts or "staves" as the primary means of support, resembling Viking shipbuilding techniques. Over 300 stave churches were built, with about 24 still standing today showcasing intricate wood carvings and paintings that blended Christian and Nordic pagan influences.
Stave churches were unique wooden churches built in medieval Norway between the 10th and 12th centuries. About 1,000 were constructed but only around 30 remain today. They were built entirely of wood using vertical planks and wooden staves/pillars at the corners. The churches combined influences from Viking ship designs, Gothic architecture, and Romanesque basilicas but retained distinct Norwegian architectural styles and woodcarving traditions. The most notable surviving examples include Borgund, Urnes, and Hopperstad churches.

Hepatitis A, B, and C are viral infections that cause inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis A spreads through ingestion of contaminated food or water. Hepatitis B spreads through bodily fluids and can be sexually transmitted or spread by sharing needles. Hepatitis C primarily spreads through exposure to infected blood, such as sharing needles. While symptoms are usually mild and resolve on their own for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and C can become chronic infections requiring treatment to prevent further liver damage. Testing identifies exposure and active infections, and immunizations protect against Hepatitis A and B.

It has been widely praised for its functionality and success in revitalizing the library as a community institution.
The document summarizes plans for a new central library in Helsinki, Finland. It discusses the need for libraries to serve as modern community hubs rather than just repositories for books. The proposed new central library would be 25,000 square meters, with space for library services, events, commercial activities, and potential locations in downtown Helsinki. It aims to attract 1.5 million visitors annually and establish Helsinki as a leader in forward-thinking library design.

The Vennesla Library And Culture House in Norway serves the town of Vennesla and surrounding areas. The 1938 sqm building is located in the town center as an extension of an existing community center and learning center. It was designed by the firm Helen & Hard and completed in 2011 to function as a public meeting place and improve the town's architecture. The modern building uses wood and glass, with wooden ribs wrapping around the walls, ceiling, and furniture to provide acoustic absorption and a warm glow. It offers casual reading spaces to encourage informal use by residents.
Public Library In Heritage Buildings. Types And ExamplesIgnasi Bonet
The document discusses different types of heritage buildings that have been adapted to house public libraries in Barcelona province. It provides examples of masias (Catalan farmhouses), town houses, industrial buildings, and exceptional structures like old hospitals or convents that have become libraries. The key benefits of locating libraries in heritage buildings include making the buildings focal points within their communities again and enhancing the library spaces with historic elements. However, any adaptations must be carefully considered to preserve the architectural value and history of the original structures.
The Tianjin Binhai Public Library in Tianjin, China designed by Dutch firm MVRDV looks like a giant eye from the outside. The five-story atrium is framed by staggered bookshelves that form the shape of an eye socket, with a spherical auditorium at the center acting as the pupil. The curving bookshelves provide seating areas for visitors and continue out across the glass facade to form sun shades. However, the tight construction schedule meant planned access to upper bookshelves from behind the atrium had to be dropped.
The document provides details about Alvar Aalto's House of Culture building in Helsinki, Finland. It describes the building's U-shaped layout with an auditorium, conference rooms, and offices. Aalto designed the building using different materials suited to each section's acoustic and functional needs, such as brick for the auditorium and copper-clad concrete for the offices. The roof and walkway feature copper, and the interior utilizes wood. The House of Culture exemplifies Aalto's style of interpreting modernism through an emphasis on local materials and functionality.
Alvar Aalto was a Finnish architect known for his organic modernist style that was influenced by nature. Some of his most famous works include Villa Mairea, which featured courtyard and massing designs inspired by nature, and Paimio Sanatorium, a tuberculosis hospital with abundant natural light and cantilevered balconies. Aalto also designed furniture like the Paimio Chair and Zebra Chair using wood and innovative bending techniques. He had a philosophy of humanistic modernism and aimed to integrate architecture with its natural surroundings.
Building planning and Architecture of Odd Helsinki Central Library. ALA architect design this library. it is a striking building, visitor can do many things like gaming, music, food etc. The building has three floor and three atmosphere. it has a small auditorium.
The document describes Enrico Manias's thesis project for a new professional institute in Florence, Italy. The project aims to harmoniously integrate the new building into the surrounding rural area through formal simplicity and an analysis of local architectural forms. The new institute consists of several blocks connected by an inner street and courtyards. It includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, gym, and public community spaces. The main facade is linear while the rear facade divides into pieces around courtyards to embrace the landscape.
Qatar National Library's state-of-the-art building, located in the heart of Education City, is a community space for Qatar’s residents and helps facilitate the effective exchange of ideas and communal learning.
The 45,000-square-meter building encourages visitors to explore the progression of knowledge from the past to the present. It achieves a delicate balance between information availability and accessibility on the one hand, and content preservation and conservation on the other.

3. Continual flow is a theme that comes to the fore again and
again in this year’s edition of Projects.
For example in the new library at Hjørring in Denmark
where rooms and departments are linked by a red thread –
sometimes functional, sometimes a virtual artery – winding
its way high and low through the building, spreading
oxygen and energy.
Continual flow also permeates Lammhults Library Design,
the new name of BCI and Eurobib.
It’s a constant flow of expressive and innovative design,
a continual searching for new ideas and shapes, with an
equally strong commitment to quality, care of the
environment, to understanding ecology and providing
sustainable solutions.
This has led to us becoming world leaders in the fit out of
library interiors.
We have more than 60 years experience in the field and
TO BE CONTINUED are commited to continuity and further development for
libraries worldwide, and we mean to keep it that way.
Welcome to the world of Lammhults Library Design

The library won Best Public Building category in the latest awards by the Local
Authority Members Association (Lama).
It is one of Ireland’s largest libraries with 100,000 books, magazines, CDs
and DVDs.
The brief for the shelving was specific in terms of both aesthetics and function.
A system was required in various sizes and configurations to provide an aesthetic
far removed from the dated natural timber look of the preceding fit-out. It was also
essential that the shelving should not resemble flat-pack or domestic furniture.

Puteaux is a municipality on the western edge of Paris, well
known for the business district La Défense, with its high rise
office blocks and famous Grande Arche.
Le Palais de la Mediathèque replaces the old central library
and is located in the heart of the area. With its characteristic
curved arch and glass façade, the building respectfully and
definitively reflects its surroundings.
More than 2,850 square metres house 120,000 items in a
great number of different media formats.
With its modern profile and public accessibility, Le Palais
de la Mediatèque aims to strengthen social links and expand
communication between the generations.

This has been described as Denmark’s most exciting library and was
named one of Europes’ best libraries by NAPLE, National Authorities on
Public Libraries in Europe.
The new 5,000 square metre central library in Hjørring forms part
of the Metropol shopping centre. The intention of visual artists Bosch &
Fjord was to make this “the pivotal point of the town”. The whole idea
of the library is to encourage playfulness and surprise. Above all, it is a
place To Be. The furniture signals where you should be quiet and where
you’re permitted to make a noise.
A physical message transmission theme in the form of an inspired red
vein leads the visitor through the entire library as a structural element of
the decor at times or otherwise in the form of a shelf, display surface or
even a seat.

When Kuwait’s constitution was drawn up in 1962, there was a

Its new head office in Kuwait City contains, in addition to adminis-

Scandinavian design was chosen for this, with a feel for wood in
the form of the Gothia Shelving System, with glass end panels and
stained wooden detail.

15. Medius Holsted is a large sports complex in the town centre.
Here, the ambition was to create a multi-purpose establishment
– to offer inhabitants both a sporting and cultural choice.
One of the latest additions to the complex is Holsted Public
Library which now forms a hub along with the various sports
venues, places where people can meet, a gym, a café and
much more.
The point of departure in creating the library was to empha-
size its role as part of a joint cultural and leisure facility.
The shelving reflects these ambitions. With the congenial
Experience system, a dynamic is added to the library, creating
rooms within rooms.

PUBLIC LIBRARY
The library in Raufoss, principal town of the municipality of Vestre Toten
in Norway, is housed in a building dating back to the late 1970s.
Both the premises and their contents were in need of an update.
The library’s ambition was that the building should encourage people
to read and discover its collections. This is reflected by the investment in
presentation and display. Furniture from Lammhult Library Design helps
stimulate curiosity and a desire to read.
The shelving system is Impex, complemented by display furnishings from
Opening the Book. In order to create a good environment for listening to
talking books and music, Luna sound chairs have been placed strategically

the 17th century.
An Ursuline convent dating from the 18th century has this year been given a
modern extension. The convent has been transformed into a media library and
the original 4,000 square metre surface has been increased by 2,500 square
metres to house a collection of books and documents amounting to around
120,000 items.
Two of the media library’s rooms contain very ancient, rare books and
here use has been made of the Frontline Shelving System in beech.

The transformation of the Seegmuller warehouse into a library required a doubling of surface area. A fragile
equilibrium had to be maintained.
The silo was preserved, forming a very visible vertical sign to mark the entrance to the site from the old town.
The main hall abuts this magnificent concrete structure. The floors of the extension link with those already in
existence, freeing up large amounts of space for the library.
From the former market hall, signals a little like tags guide the visitor towards the upper floors. A long, red
ribbon winds through the building linking floors which might otherwise be disassociated from the public space.
Industrial logic has been followed, with utility fittings left visible. Fluidity permeates the otherwise linear nature of
these premises.
Shelving is in both Classic Steel Shelving System and custom made.

TENERIFE
PUBLIC LIBRARY
TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes – is the latest
addition to the cultural infrastructure in Tenerife.
The ambitious project, designed by the Swiss
architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron
in cooperation with the Spanish architect Virgilio
Gutierrez, aspires to be a reflection of contemporary
art, influenced by new technologies.
The building is located in Santa Cruz’s restored
old quarter, on the north east coast of Tenerife. The
interior is deliberately designed to stimulate sensa-
tions and movement by expanding dynamic spaces
towards the exterior, allowing a natural source of
light to flow throughout the entire building.
TEA is a multi functional exhibitions centre which
combines different spaces and activities for social
interaction and aims to promote artistic creation and
thought on contemporary forms of art and culture.
It also houses Tenerife’s main library.
Total area is 20,622 square metres. The library
occupies one fourth of this.
The library features the Opal Shelving System in
white and without end panels to promote a light
expression.
