   One
   day,
   Li+le
   Red
   Hen
   found
   a

grain
   of
   wheat.
   She
   decided
   to

plant
   it.
   “Who
   will
   help
   me
   plant

this
   grain
   of
   wheat?”
   she
   asked

her
  friends,
  a
  chubby
  pig,
  a
  know-‐
it-‐all
   duck,
   a
   mouse
   with
   a
   voice

that
   squeaked
   like
   a
   tea
   ke+le,

and
  her
  smarty-‐pants
  daughter.

  “Not
  I,”
  said
  the
  pig.
  “I’m
  going

to
  hang
  in
  the
  mud.”

 “
  Not
  I,”
  said
  the
  duck.
  “
  I’m

going
  to…
  um…the
  circus.”

   “Not
   I,”
   said
   the
   mouse.
   “I’m

going
   to
   scare
   the
   farmer’s

wife.”

   “I
   have
   a
   party
   to
   go
   to”
   said

her
   daughter
   very
   quickly.

“Then
  I’m
  going
  to
  the
  mall.”

  “Fine”
  said
  Li+le
  Red
  Hen.

   so
   she
   planted
   the
   grain
   of

wheat.
   In
   the
   spring
   she
   asked,

“Who
   will
   help
   me
   harvest
   this

wheat?”

“NO!”
   screamed
   pig,
   duck,

mouse,
  and
  chick
  all
  at
  once.
  So

she
  harvested
  the
  wheat.
  “Who

will
   help
   me
   take
   this
   wheat
   to

the
  miller?”
  she
  asked.

“NEVER!”
   they
   screamed.
   So
   she

took
  it
  to
  the
  miller
  to
  be
  ground.
  “

who
   will
   help
   me
   knead
   this

bread?”
  she
  asked.

“You
  did
  everything
  else,”
  said
  pig.

“Yeah”,
   said
   duck,
   mouse,
   and

chick.
  So
  she
  knead
  the
  bread.
  She

knew
   they’d
   say
   no,
   so
   she
   baked

the
  bread.

“Yum”
  said
  pig,
  duck,
  mouse,

chick.

“Who
  will
  help
  me
  eat
  this
  bread”

she
  asked.

“ME!”
  they
  screamed.

“
  No,
  me.”
  And
  she
  helped
  herself.
