The Little Red Hen asks various farm animals - a dog, cat, armadillo, and horse - to help plant strawberries, get pie crust from the store, and prepare a strawberry pie. However, each animal declines, making excuses for why they cannot help. The Little Red Hen ends up doing all the tasks alone. When the pie is ready, the animals then want to help eat it, but the Little Red Hen refuses and eats the pie herself since she did all the work to make it alone.
