There are many people living in poverty around the world, especially in developing countries in Africa and Central Asia. Poverty is defined as having little to no money or resources for basic needs. Many of the world's poor live in slums without access to clean water, sanitation, adequate housing or education. This places them at high risk of waterborne diseases and other health issues. Efforts to address poverty include public housing programs that provide more affordable housing options and slum upgrading initiatives that aim to improve living conditions in slum areas through infrastructure development.
LOST VOICES: LIFE AND HEALTH OF CHILDREN IN A SOUTH-WEST DELHI SLUMJohn1Lorcan
The slum population in India is mushrooming at an alarming rate. Economic deprivation and social and
physical decay in these slums are leading to a formidable increase in health problems. The most severely
affected are the young children in these slum clusters as they are exposed to harsh living standards. The
study was conducted in the Kishangarh slum in South-West Delhi in November 2018 during a health camp
conducted by an NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) in Kishangarh. 469 children attended the health
camp. The collected data was recorded in pretested questionnaires and entered into Microsoft Excel 2007
and Google Spreadsheet.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

role of women and girls in various terror groupssadiakorobi2
Women have three distinct types of involvement: direct involvement in terrorist acts; enabling of others to commit such acts; and facilitating the disengagement of others from violent or extremist groups.
1. Poverty
● There are many meanings to poverty. It can be where the state or condition of
people having very little money or almost no money, goods. Poverty can also
mean where people suffer of deficiency of necessary or desirable ingredients or
qualities.
● Right now there are many people that are living in poverty and these places are
mostly located in poor countries such as afghanistan, niger and central africa and
the people living there are most likely in poverty.
● The people living in central africa some of them whose income is below 75p -
£1.50 a day which is very low and typically not even enough money to pay for
basics like food, clean water, clothing and proper shelter which are needed to
survive in reasonable health.
● Many of these people are also children some of them cannot even afford soap to
wash their school uniform and cannot go to school which means they would not
be able to complete their basic education.
● These people that have so low incomes also mean that they do not live in proper
houses but in slums. Slums are a squalid or overcrowded urban street or district
inhabited by very poor people.Them living in slums results in their makeshift
houses very vulnerable to the risk of fires, landslides and even evictions. Hence,
they face the risk of injuries and deaths as well.
● People living in slums generally do not have access to safe drinking water and so
they drink from sources such as polluted rivers and contaminated wells, with their
water containing bacteria which can cause a widespread of diseases in the
slums. Some examples of these diseases are cholera and dysentry. There might
be also stagnant water in clogged drains which would provide breeding grounds
for mosquitoes and lead to the spread of malaria and dengue fever.

Solving poverty
● Although we cannot completely stop poverty, there are already a lot of effort put
in by many people to try and solve poverty.
● 1 way of how the people are trying to solve poverty is by including public
housing. Public housing is where the government provides housing units with
basic services, usually for low-income households and other persons of need
such as the elderly and disabled, public housing is also more reasonably priced
compared to private housing, and can also be subsidised by the government so
as to allow even more people to be able to afford to live in a proper house. An
example of a country that practices public housing is Singapore. The housing
development board(HDB) was set up in Singapore in 1960 to build and provide
public housing for Singapore’s increasing population.
● Another way of solving poverty can be where some cities do slum upgrading.
This process is where cities try to improve conditions in slum areas by improving
the quality of housing and basic services such as water, electricity and sewerage.
Slum upgrading is carried out in many ways, residents can be moving out of the
slums and be relocated temporarily so the basic infrastructure of the slums can
be built up. Financing schemes and assistance are also provided to fund the
projects.
