Abstract
The main objective of this Community Service Project is
to “identify the social issues and generate the solutions for the
particular project by conducting the survey”.In this CSP, we
assigned with a project of “TO AVOID THE USAGE OF
CHEMICALS ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ”.In agriculture we
use chemicals likes pesticides, fertilizers. These chemicals are
particularly dangerous in fruits and vegetables by which
people are exposed to them. The widespread use of chemicals
will mainly impact on humans like disease ,health issues etc
and these chemicals accumulate into fruits and vegetables
.Finally the aim of these project is to avoid the usage of
chemicals in fruits and vegetables by applying some methods.
1
Introduction
 In the past decade there has been a tremendous increase in the yields of
various crops to meet the demand of overgrowing population, achieved by
chemicals.
 In the agriculture they used the chemicals like pesticides.Theses pesticides
residues on fruits and vegetables such as DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane and
Heptachlor.
 By eating these chemical-mixed foods people are falling a victim to cancer, lung
damage, loss of appetite, irritability problems.
 In the fruit Ripening process they use the chemicals like calicum carbide .
 Ripening is the process by which fruits attain their desirable flavor, quality ,
color ,texture ,sweetness and even appetizing smell.

COMMUNITY SURVEY
In these community service project we survey on two different communities:
1. Visting the Chapadu village
2. Visting Fruit Ripening community
 Chapadu village is one of the community we went.In these village we met the
farmer for collecting the information about usage of chemicals on fruits and
vegetables.
 Mandil Bazar is one of the community present in proddatur .In these
community they used too ripen the fruit.
3
1.Visting the Chapadu village
1.Pesticides are used to reduce damage to crops from insects, germs and rodents
which increases the yields of fruits, vegetables and otjer crops
2.Residual amount of these chemicals present on the food
3.The pesticides residue cannot be easily removed with plain water
4.High levels of pesticides in food can lead to the development of diseases.
4
HOW THE PESTICIDES ARE EFFECT ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES?
 Pesticides degrade the quality of soil and
further the quality of the food and yield.
 Chemical pesticides deplete the nutritional
value of the food and contaminate it.
 When we eat any food such as apple,
lettuce, potatoes or strawberries, these
pesticides enter our body and may lead to
many health issues.
 While these chemical pesticides are
developed to kill organisms found on the
crop, these are also harmful to other living
things.
5
ADVANTAGES
 Pesticides control waterborne diseases and virus transmission.
 It helps to protect the storage and conserve the yield.
 Pesticides help farmers to grow more crops in the same or less
land: when there are low chances of pests in crop fields then it
becomes more chances of more production of crops in the same land.
 Pesticides helped in making it easy to remove weeds or prevent
pests without hardship: 40 to 50 per cent of productivity allows
farmers to gain more benefits.
DISADVANTAGES
 Impact on human health: By continuous toxic food consumption
directly affects the health of humans drastically. so many diseases such
as allergy, asthma, cancers are occurred due to the use of harmful
pesticides which are found in many forms around us.
 Environmental pollution.
 Negative effect on other life species(Butterflies, bees, and other soil
organisms)
 Genetic defects.
 Affect in pollination: Pesticides affect the way of natural pollination
done by bees and butterflies which reduces the crop yield.
Reasons Farmers Use More Pesticides
 Pesticides help farmers to produce more yield with less land.
 Pesticides assure huge harvests.
 Pesticides help keep food cheap.
 Pesticides help to reduce waterborne and insect-transmitted disease
 No hardship of hand weeding.
 More produce is limited.
6
HOW THE ORGANIC FARMING IS MORE EFFECTIVE
The main objective of these organic farming is to produce food with higher
nutritional quality Organic farming produces various products not only food
grains and pulses but they are also producing fruits, vegetables, spices, and also
dairy products
1. "Organic" is the description for products that were not processed and yielded
through chemical-free fertilizers and pesticides.
2. Organic products are usually more expensive as compared to other ones.
3. it usually takes more effort and finances to maintain organic farms.
7
2. Visting the fruit ripening community
 Ripening is the process by which fruits attain
their desirable flavor ,quality ,color ,texture
,sweetness and even appetizing smell
 In the past years they used calcium carbide to
ripe the fruit .Appearence of fruit color is good
but inside it is not ripen.
 Calicum carbide usually contains arsenic and
phosphorous and it is harmful for human
 For ripening the fruit they used ETHYLENE GAS
which is normally produce in plants.
 Most of the fruits and vegetables are stored in
cold storage room under the controlled
atmosphere,temperature and relative humidity
condition.
8
DEVICE TO CHECK HARMFUL CHEMICALS IN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
 Some of the devices they used to identify the chemicals in fruits
and vegetables.
 They detect the chemical whether it is organic or inorganic.
9
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
 Adurino Board
 LCD Display
 Power convertor
 Transistors
 Rf transismeter (signal receiver)
 Temperature sensor
Conclusion
Finally, we conclude that the pesticides i.e., chemicals are used to control the
pests and these pesticides contain the chemicals such as DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane,
and Heptachlor.
Finally, these pesticides accumulate in fruits and vegetables.so, we have to use a
limited amount of chemicals. Follow organic farming like vermicompost,
biofertilizers, and organic manure by these we reduce the chemicals. Getting the
awareness on chemicals and“To avoid usage of chemicals on fruits and
vegetables”.
