Introduction to Basic 5s

2. 5S is a workplace organization technique (derived from Japanese
organization technique)
It helps create and maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of a
work area
5S is a common starting point for Lean activities in a company
• It is a way to create:
– Cleaner work areas - More available space
– More organization - Less wasted time
– Safer working conditions
– Efficient work processes and practices

3. THE FIVE 5’S
Sorting (Seiri) – separating
the needed from the not-
needed
• Set in order (Seiton)– a place for
everything and everything in its
place, clean and ready to use
• Shine (Seiso) – cleaning for
inspection

4. THE FIVE 5’S
Standardize (Seiketsu)–
developing common
methods for consistency
• Sustain (Shitsuke) – holding
the gains and improving

13. 5S AUDIT COMMITTEE
1. Check on 5s implementation of every
department per quarter (does
inspection/checking/auditing)
2. Place Red Tag for 5s findings
3. Creates monthly report
4. Post 5s findings and development in
Bulletin Board
5. Reports 5s non compliant to HRD for
disciplinary actions.

14. 5S AUDIT COMMITTEE
OPERATION
1. Inspection must be guided by Audit Checklist to be
created by the 5s Audit Committee.
2. Each member shall be assigned of one department
3. Upon inspection of area, take photos of violation
seen as evidence of non compliance
4. Reports shall be submitted to 5s Chairman for
summary and recommendations
5. Violations per department shall be posted in Bulletin
Board for monitoring
