Bangkok is sinking an average of 10 centimeters per year due to groundwater extraction and rising sea levels caused by global warming. If no action is taken, experts predict that within 20 years large parts of Bangkok will be underwater, with sea levels rising up to a meter higher than current levels. Proposed solutions include pumping treated water back into aquifers to halt sinking and constructing large dykes to protect the city from flooding, but so far little progress has been made on implementing solutions.
