1. Superfood
Superfood are a four piece made up of Dom Ganderton
(lead vocals/guitar), Ryan Malcolm (vocals/lead guitar),
Emily Baker (bass) and Carl Griffen (drums). Superfood
originally known as Junnk are a indie rock band from
Birmingham associated with the ‘B-Town’ scene. The band
are yet to release their debut album although a date has
been set for the 3rd of November for their LP ‘Don’t Say
That’ to be released on 3rd of November 2014.
2. Influences
Superfood have openly been influenced by bands from both the UK and also
the USA. They have been influenced by solo artists such as Beck and also
David Bowie, this is clear from the alternative-pop sound that Superfood
make which is an adaption from the two. In relation to influences from
bands, it is clear that Superfood have been influenced by a wide range of
bands over the last 30 years. The most recognisable influences from other
bands are Britpop-y bands such as Blur and Pulp (who have a very unique
sound themselves). From the already existing Superfood discography I
believe that they have adapted the sounds of the two bands to go into a
different genre of music known as Dream-Pop.
3. Other
Influences
Many interviewers have ask regarding Superfood’s
influences; in an interview with wow247 magazine they
were asked about their comparison with Blur where they
said;
‘ Dom: “We certainly didn’t sit down and say to ourselves,
‘we’re going to write a song like Blur’. That’s kind of just
how we sound at the moment.”’
