Market Analysis
Target markets include education, hobbyist and the telecommunication industry.
Education: schools that have good Electrical Engineering related programs and cubesat
class satellite programs.
Hobbyist: amateur (Ham) radio community.
Telecommunication industry: cell phone, WiFi, WiMax.
Trends: Wireless and high speed communication, like semiconductor, has become the
infrastructure of the technology world. The Cubesat/Nanosat/Microsat applications and
ventures are expanding rapidly around the globe. The current trend in this market is to make
the satellite subsystems in-house instead of buying off-the-shelf products from companies. The
communication industry is a great market for our product. Among the sectors of this industry
are cell phone, microwave communication systems, Wi-Fi/WiMAX, and the currently emerging
wearable devices.
Compelling need for the product: There are many devices and applications that require
designing of the wireless communication system inside. The need peaks within the booming of
Cubesat/wearable electronics industry and the downturn of the economy, which has made the
traditional, high cost instruments unaffordable for the majority of the markets.
Benefit to End-User: Our products are much more affordable than the traditional instruments.
Moreover, as actual users for these instruments, along with modern technologies, we
2. completely understand the need of the markets and can integrate the necessary functions into
the instruments accordingly to satisfy each market segment.
Competitive Advantages: BambooRF is able to differentiate itself from the competition in the
following ways:
Access and Affordable Prices: The most profound difference between our company and the
competition is our ability to offer much lower prices than the competition. Since one of our
target segments includes developers who are a part of the ‘Do It Yourself’ generation, our
company would like to do what others are not doing and actually make our radio frequency
products affordable for these consumers. The average ‘Do It Yourself’ consumer cannot afford
to spend thousands of dollars on this type of technology equipment, which is what other
competitors are selling their products for. Therefore, BambooRF will be selling radio frequency
equipment in the small price range of $1,500, versus the competition price of $10,000. Our goal
is that individual consumers will gain access and at the same time finally be able to realize this
opportunity for access as well as be able to do this for a very affordable price versus not even
be able to ever access such equipment because the price was so unaffordable in comparison to
the pre-existing competitors’ prices.
New Market Opportunity: BambooRF also differentiates itself from the competition because of
our company’s entrance into the new, trendy market of ‘Do It Yourself.’
Even though BambooRF is based out of Morehead, Kentucky, the company will be
focused on serving virtually any consumer who has Internet access. Whether a consumer is in
Seattle, Washington, or London, England, they will be able to reach BambooRF through eBay
3. and in the future, BambooRF’s website. At the launch of Bamboo RF products, our products will
be sold online through eBay. According to the eBay website, BambooRF will have to take the
following steps in order to get started on eBay: 1. Set up a seller account, 2. Create your listing,
3. Manage your listing, and 4. Wrap up the sale with your buyer (eBay, 2015). After our
company has generated enough growth, BambooRF will then launch a website where
customers can purchase our products directly through BambooRF using an online form.
Since the e-commerce market is so large and competitive, competing in the e-commerce
market will be a challenge that BambooRF is prepared to overcome. According to Statista, “E-
commerce, or electronic commerce, largely means buying and/or selling products through the
internet and is commonly associated with online shopping.” With this, Statista also provided
the fact that, “E-commerce statistics confirm the explosive pace at which this industry has
developed as worldwide B2C e-commerce sales amounted to more than 1.2 trillion US dollars in
2013” (Statista, 2015). Therefore, even though the e-commerce market is competitive,
BambooRF should take this window of opportunity to move into this growing market in order to
produce as much revenue as possible.
