Bad Blood, Good Nursing
Bad Blood, Good Nursing
In the famous words of Maya Angelou, "When you know better, you do better." The historical
course of nursing is the epitome of this statement. There are a great many things in the long history
of our chosen field to be proud of ranging from the advancements made by Florence Nightingale to
the support the nursing community gave to Kelly Johnson following her two–minute speech during
the 2015 Miss America Pageant. With that being said, there have been a few mistakes along the way.
One such mistake involves the role that the infamous Nurse Rivers played in the Tuskegee Syphilis
Study. Today, we know that nurses have an ethical duty to intervene when an unethical practice is
found, both for the safety of the patient and the integrity of the title RN. Nurses may have difficulty
intervening with unethical practices of a doctor because of the negative effects it may have on the
working relationship. However, after reviewing what occurred within the Tuskegee study, we've
seen what happens when a nurse fails in this duty.
Taken out of context it's easy to condemn Nurse Rivers for blindly following doctors' orders to the
detriment of hundreds of lives. However, to learn from her mistake, we must fully understand why
she acted in the manner that she did. If we take a moment to consider the fact that she was a black
woman born into a certain generation, it's a bit easier to understand her perspective.

Bad Blood Monologue
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood You know it used to be mad love So take a look what you've
done 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood Hey Now we got problems And I don't think we can solve
them You made a really deep cut And, baby, now we got bad blood Hey
Did you have to do this? I was thinking that you could be trusted Did you have to ruin what was
shiny? Now it's all rusted Did you have to hit me, where I'm weak? Baby, I couldn't breathe And rub
it in so deep, salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me
Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times, you and I

Everything Bad Is Good For You Analysis
Steven Johnson's book, Everything Bad Is Good For You, paints a modern picture of the way in
which technology has affected us in a mostly positive way. Johnson has also written about
neuroscience, computer technology, and media studies in his previous books. In his book Everything
Bad Is Good For You, Johnson uses comparisons between two different eras of television to point
out the varying complexities between the simple plotlines of older TV, and the highly complex
plotlines of modern TV. For example, people can watch television dramas such as 24, which in
comparison to older shows are many times more complicated and more difficult to understand. If the
much less complicated show Hill Street Blues confused the developing TV audiences of ... Show

Modern Television has become much more complicated according to Johnson. For example,
Johnson writes, "Draw an 5 outline of the narrative threads in almost every Dragnet episode and it
will be a single line" (66). However "A Hill Street Blues episode complicates the picture in a
number of profound ways. The narrative weaves together a collection of distinct strands– sometimes
as many as ten" (67). Johnson uses these examples of older and newer television shows to support
his claim of the increased complexity of modern TV as opposed to the old simplistic formula used
for shows prior to the groundbreaking show Hill Street Blues. Johnson's argument is that if our
brains have become accustomed to following increasingly complex plotlines as TV has matured,
then television has actually had a positive impact on our brains. Walter Kirn writes in regards to
Johnsons persuasiveness " Johnson's argument isn't strictly scientific, relying on hypothesis and
tests, but more observational and impressionistic. Its persuasive anyhow. When he compares
contemporary hit crime dramas like 'The Sopranos' and '24', ––with their elaborate, multilevel
plotlines teeming casts of characters and open–ended narrative structures – with popular numbskull
clunkers of yore like 'Starsky and Hutch.'" The point is, this, Johnson's approach to his argument
may not be strictly scientific, however, it sure as hell is

Personal Narrative: What My Grandfather Meant By Bad Blood
Years later, I learned what my Grandfather meant by "bad blood". As a kid, he had stepped on a nail,
damaging his foot, piercing a vein, resulting in a massive loss of blood. He of course was rushed to a
hospital and received a transfusion, replacing his lost blood. However, medical procedures were not
to the high standards we see today. Anyone could donate blood, without tests being done, without
figuring out if their blood was pure, infection free. We will never know if the person who donated
the blood my grandfather received knew if they were sick. We will never know if they knew that
they had Hepatitis. But hospitals didn't check back then and perform tests, so my grandfather
received that blood, helping him then in the moment, but the ... Show more content on

So many people had known him in his life and had been touched by his love, and his actions. And as
most funerals go, there is a point where someone addresses the people who came to honor the life
that's lost. In my grandfather's case, my grandmother wanted to do it. At that point in the funeral, I
was tired, I was bored. I was so young and had no patience and little respect. My mother had just
told me to sit still and be quiet when my grandma ascended the stairs to the podium. She walked,
slowly, but confidently to the microphone. She looked out into the crowd and started to talk, when
her voice cracked, and that was all it took. I watched as my grandmother broke down, loosing the
will to hold herself upright, crying, looking devastated, while my Dad rushed onto the stage to help
her down. To get her to sit, to give her some water, to comfort her. As this happened, all I could
think was "why didn't Grandpa help Grandma down from the stage? Why isn't Grandpa here to
comfort Grandma when she is upset?" Being a child, I didn't understand what questions were wrong
or when the time was wrong to ask them, and I remember turning to my mother and asking those
same questions I just thought, out loud to her. The look I received is one I'll never forget. So much
pity and sorrow in one look. My mother leaned down close to me, hugged me and looked me in the
eyes as she said: "Grandpa isn't here anymore. Grandpa isn't coming back. He has passed on and

Ethical Research In Bad Blood
The pioneering spirit of research has answered countless questions, cured countless illnesses, and
has prevented the loss of countless lives. Yet, although there is infinite potential in obtaining
knowledge that could revolutionize the medical, social, and physiological world, research must not
be conducted in a way that compromises the human subjects that are included in the study. For this
discussion board, I will be discussing the case study "Bad Blood" while focusing on some of the
ethical dilemmas that were involved in this specific case study.
According to LoBiondo–Wood and Haber (2013), ethics is defined as a theory or discipline that
deals with moral values and conduct. As members of the health care team, each of us is responsible
to uphold certain standards of ethical care. Likewise, those who conduct research are required to
uphold standards of ethical and legal research practices. This however, was not always ... Show

Before the 1970's, and the creation of federal guidelines for ethical conduct involving human
researched subjects, many cases of unethical research practices were routinely conducted. Now, in
the age of the institutional review boards (IRB) human subjects are protected from being involved in
any study that unduly exposes them to harmful or unethical research participation (Nichols, 2016).
Yet, despite the measures that are currently set in place, unethical research can still happen in today's
modern world. Therefore, diligence must still be upheld to prevent unethical research practices.
As seen in the article by Fourtner, Fourtner, and Herreid (2000), unethical studies have taken place
throughout history including the famous Tuskegee, Alabama, Syphilis Study. Interestingly, the study
was created with good intensions. At the start of the

What Is The Climax Of The Old Willis Place
Could you be friends with a ghost? You journey through this question with Mary Downing Hahn's
book, "The Old Willis Place." In The Old Willis Place, two children, Diana and Georgie live
together on a farm with a abandoned house. The farm has caretakers that don't take care of the farm
at all. Though Diana and Georgie are bound by "the rules" Diana talks to the caretaker's daughter,
Lissa. The two become best friends. But one day, when the two venture into the old house, Lissa lets
out Ms. Lillian's ghost, who despises, and had killed Diana and Georgie decades ago. Late one
night, Ms. Lillian finds Diana and Georgie. The two find out the truth about what really happened
the night they died. In the end, all three ghosts go with Diana and ... Show more content on

She and her father prove they are dynamic characters because they both thought of Diana as a
troublemaker and a monster at first, but now they think of her as a sweet, pretty, and shy girl. They
continue to progress that way of thinking throughout the story, and keep thinking the nice things.
Diana also begins to think of Lissa of a nice friend, rather than a snob like she thought in the
beginning. Therefore making them round characters.
The Old Willis Place, takes place on a farm, which is a common setting for many books. You are
told about this when Lissa writes in her diary, saying, "The first day we came to the farm, there was
people in the woods spying on us." (20) She and her father take care of the farm and live in a trailer.
They are one of many caretakers. Most of the caretakers left because Diana and Georgie steal things
from them, and haunt them. Diana and Georgie live in the woods, another part of the setting, "I
slipped into the woods to find my brother." (8) They live in the woods, which is another setting.
These two quotes in the book show that there is not only a setting, but a common setting.
The book The Old Willis Place is believable because there is round characters, dynamic characters,
and a common setting. You would want to read this book because it has an important message
inside. The message is to always follow the rules, and if you don't bad things will happen. It teaches

Bad Blood: The Tuskegee Study
The main ethical issues that I have found to be compelling are several and my reaction is "oh my",
an expression of what is wrong with that time period when I completed reading Bad Blood: The
Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, by James H. Jones. I had no idea that our government and public
officials used African Americans for such a terrible experiment. It is beyond a belief that our country
who is "One Nation Under God", would subject one class of citizens for such an experiment that I
would personally classify as plain outright genocide. Are we no better that what the Nazi's did
during World War II? The Nazi's conducted live experiments on mostly Jews, another of class of
societies citizens; that no man or woman and child would be spared at the ... Show more content on

I would like to say the most prominent person that stands out in the book is Fred Gray. Mr. Gray was
"Tuskegee's most prominent black lawyer and of Alabama's leading civil rights activist" (Jones, pg.
212). He stands out to me, because only an African American can really understand the nature and
impact of those that were put through the Tuskegee experiment. It is only that if we can identify
with what those men had gone through for the many years of medical malpractice to the highest
degree. Politicians, as well State leaders, and public health officials had the duty to protect all
Americans from such atrocities. That is why Mr. Fred Gray stands out in this book. He can identify
with his fellow black Americans. In this case he is the best man suited to handle the grave injustices
for the Tuskegee men. I would like to point that his resume is impeccable as only one of few black
lawyers to argue before the Supreme Court of the United States. The other prominent African
American lawyer to argue several cases before U.S.S.C. was Thurgood Marshall, an icon in the civil
rights movement and future associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Another
individual that was prominent in the Tuskegee experiment and civil rights was a white man by the
name of Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts. Without the perseverance

Greasy Lake Analysis
"Greasy Lake" – Story Analysis
"Greasy Lake" was published in 1985 along with other stories from the author, T. Corahessan Boyle.
The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys 'living on the edge', in which the author presents
himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has
truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C.
Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the
underlying meanings and subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a
direct judgment of the characters. After reading between the lines, one quickly finds out who the
characters are, but more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unknown aggressor starts to engage in hand–on–hand combat with the three. The narrator
reminds us that Digby, a friend of the narrator's, has just finished a course in martial arts (that his
parents probably helped pay). Digby stands in position with wrists cocked and ankles bent in a 'swan
like' stance ready for the assailant, but sadly for the young ninja, the narrator tells us, "The greasy
character was not impressed. He merely backed off a step, his face like a Toltec mask, and laid
Digby out with a single whistling roundhouse blow (Boyle 166) . . ." Tough guys do not get knocked
out in one blow, they stand and fight.
When all hope for the young rebels seems to be lost, the narrator remembers an old tire iron he has
hidden under his seat. He recalls the last time he was in a fight, which was too long ago to even
matter. "I came at him and brought the tire iron down on his ear (Boyle 166)." Primal instinct kicked
in and the greaser from the 57' Chevy was out cold. It was far from a deserving victory as the one
man put up a hell of a fight. The greaser nearly nailed a hat trick if it wasn't for the narrator's cheap
knockout. In reality only cowards fight with metal pipes, real bad dudes fight with their fists.
Now if the unworthy victory was not enough for the pathetic trio, they proceeded to attack the
greaser's innocent girlfriend. Weak and helpless, no shoes or pants, they had her pinned against the
car half naked. Just before a horrific

The Maze Runner Research Paper
THE MAZE RUNNER
I'll say straight away that this isn't a bad film, there are definitely a lot worse and it isn't the worst of
2014 either. But it just isn't that good either, if i could've given this 3 and a half stars I would've, but
we're stuck with 3. The Maze Runner didn't interest me when it was released in cinema, I hadn't
heard the greatest reviews about it, just mediocre things, and seeing the trailer it didn't really stand
out to me personally. For the record I haven't read the books either, so I can't compare book to film
like a lot of people are able to. When walking around HMV, as I do, I saw it and thought I'd give it a
try, and I'll say this, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's a lot better then the

It's fun to see it changing all the time, gives some intense scenes, the way that the 'runners' traverse
through it is great to watch. The environment in which Thomas is thrown into at the start, the camp
if you will, looks amazing, especially on blu–ray and you can tell that they've been there a while and
have learned to live amongst each other. I've mentioned which characters I like and dislike, but the
bond that they all have seems pretty legit and not forced onto the screen in front of you.
Unfortunately the ending was pretty poor, I've heard people mention this and I'll repeat it but, they
basically tell you to your face 'oh yeah, there will be a second film just so you know', they couldn't
have been more blatant about it! The last 15 minutes were boring for me , where this movie is at it's
best is the start, before the girl comes into it, and some scenes in the middle which I don't want to
spoil for those who haven't seen it. I've mentioned how the flashbacks bothered me. And the script
can be pretty laughable at times, but that's about it.

The Pros And Cons Of Long Distance Relationship
Long Distance Relationship Is Not a Good Choice Long distance relationship usually happen for
those who has met their partner but cannot meet directly because of the big distance. Generally,
these long distance relationship are due to social, environmental and economic factors such as
participation in military activities, studying abroad, increased opportunities to work overseas and the
emergence of online relationship. A majority of college student are or have been in long distance
romance (Wood, 2015). Those who are in this kind of relationship must have a strong heart to make
it work. Unfortunately many people cannot make this type of relationship become successful
because of their own attitude. Easy to say, it is not a good choice to have this kind of relationship
when you have another alternatives of bonding a relationship. You are wasting the time that you
could be used to date other people. You are just wasting your time to dream about someone far away
and wishing they were there close to you. Things would be better to just date and fall in love with
someone else that close to you. You can see what is going on ... Show more content on

Bad Blood By Lorna Sage
The conflicts that arise during our childhood are especially important for personality development.
Although most of these experiences have an irreversible effect on us, we still tend to forget these
precious memories, as they are simply too embarrassing and painful to remember. In the extract
from "Bad blood" by Lorna Sage, the author shows how the incident on the school playground has
impacted her as an adult and her own personality. Lorna Sage highlights the hardships and
challenges of childhood and their importance in future life. The author has displayed this theme
throughout the text by using interesting characters, a unique setting, figurative language and an
occasional tone.
In the text, the narrator introduces two characters: Herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The author has described the happenings in great detail and has created a vivid picture in the reader

had: "Gail had hair in ringlets, green–hazel eyes and pale, clear, slightly olive skin stretched tight
and shiny over her muscle, and she was nearly a year older than I was." The reader can form a vivid
picture of Gail´s appearance and senses how different Gail is from the narrator and the rest of the
girls. Metaphors were used when describing the relationship between Gail and the narrator: "She'd
have won our war in any case ......" This show how violence and bullying in school are seen as wars
in the eyes of children. This is how serious than what the adults think it would be, who have most
likely forgotten their own experiences with these issues while they were children. These were the
feeling of the narrator after the situation: "...... so that she made me feel like an unstrung puppet."
Gail had a huge influence on the narrator and made her feel that she was worthless. This again
shows that people with greater power an easily bully a person who is weaker than she

Excessive Alcohol Use Bad For The Blood
If you knew that something you were about to do is a lot of fun but it has numerous health risks
including possible death, would you still do it? For most people, alcohol is a lot of fun, but most
don't realize the health factors, especially if you are an excessive drinker. Many people die each year
from heart disease because they don't know how to control how much they drink in one sitting. Even
more people die each year from drinking and driving, when you consume alcohol your motor skills
are heavily impaired and your reaction time is extremely slow therefore if you are drinking and
driving there is a high possibility that you could die. Excessive alcohol use is bad for you because it
has bad effects on the heart and blood, it kills brain cells, it has serious and sometimes deadly effects
on many vital organs in your body, and has many different side effects.
Excessive alcohol use is bad for the blood in many different ways, one such reason is that alcohol
can cause blood clots. Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream quickly which is why it has a major
impact on the blood. Heavy drinking can cause many blood conditions including several forms of
Anaemia and blood clotting abnormalities and it also reduces the strength of the immune system (1).
Anaemia rarely causes long term complications but it can affect people 's daily life. Side effects of
Anaemia include tiredness, increased risk of infection, heart and lung problems, pregnancy issues
such as premature birth and low

Relationship Between Teacher And Students
Relationships in the classroom
Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary
and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher
and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only
a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher 's work matter. If
the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and
rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body
of research supports the idea that a good teacher–student relationship helps the students feel better
and have higher academic achievements [2]–[5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship
with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve
more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore.
Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their
lives and don 't usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a
student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on
various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the
way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment

Bad Blood Hero Quotes
In the text "Bad Blood" by Will Weaver the main character Jared is a hero. The text it shows a
various amount of ways that Jared is a hero. But also there are many people who think he's not a
hero but in my opinion i do think he is a hero because it shows that in the text "Bad Blood". Cause
the text is about a boy who like to steal things that doesn't always make you a bad person deep
inside and you should always trust yourself. So there are a lot of way Jared is a hero.
The reason why i think Jared is a hero is because mainly in the beginning he didn't know her well
enough to understand what happened in her life. Basically he just wanted to steal from the lady
named Mrs. Anderson and she also didn't know the boy Jared really was. He worked for her for 2
whole years and didn't steal one thing from her which means he did nothing wrong the whole time

Good stress. Bad stress. The two are viewed as the Superman and Lex Luger – archnemeses. Yet, is
good stress different from bad stress, and does each produce a different response in the human
body? Even doctors and psychologists take opposing views on the concept of good versus bad
stress. It is akin to the 1980s debate about good egg/bad egg as it pertained to cholesterol. That
debate still exists, as does the debate over how much stress, and what "kind" of stress is good or bad
for us.
One of the authoritative papers on stress, "Physiology and Neurobiology of Stress and Adaptation:
Central Role of The Brain" by Bruce S. McEwen, examines that question closely, and says that there
the two terms refer to the same physiological response, but that there are marked differences. In
other words, there is only stress, but short–term responses can be adaptive, while prolonged
exposure or reaction to stress can be maladaptive and harmful.
He says that stress is a word used to describe challenges that are emotionally or

Analysis Of A Bad Moms Christmas
Was A Bad Moms Christmas a Success? In the original Bad Moms there are three moms who are
tired of having to be the "perfect mom", so they start doing things that are fun to them such as going
out to the bars, partying, and dating again. In A Bads Moms Christmas it shows the same moms who
like to go out and party, but this time hosting Christmas while their moms come home. This movie
being the second in the sequel demonstrates bright colors, uses good camera techniques as well as
hinting towards the original Bad Moms. Having these three aspects in the movie is important
because it hints towards what the movie is going to be about, as well as getting the viewers even
more interested on what they will watch. A Bad Moms Christmas successfully keeps their viewers
interested throughout the trailer with the use of having bright colors, long and short camera angles,
as well as relating this movie to the original movie. The trailer for A Bad Moms Christmas is
effective in giving an exciting preview into what to expect from the movie. In figure 1 it shows the
trailer using bright colors of the Christmas trees, lights, and all of the Christmas decorations add to
the excitement of the trailer as well as being able to understand the theme. Seeing these colors keep
the audience interested as well as get the Christmas feel. Putting all of these bright lights was
effective for the director to do because it can add to the understanding of the movie. Keeping the

Why Good Are Bad Good Words Bad?
Why are bad words bad? It's a question no one has the answer to. Ask someone and the only
response you will get is "because they just are." Yes yes, but why? Simply put, it's because swear
words are strong. Human conversation fundamentally needs different levels of emphasis to be able
to differentiate between the good and the great, the funny and the hilarious, the bad and the horrible,
et cetera. A word's intensity or power is directly inverse to how frequently the word is used. As you
ascend the totem pole of word intensity the words become less and less common and thus more and
more powerful. And at one point you cross a line; you have ascended into a group of words that are
so uncommon, so taboo, that they have immense power, swear words. ... Show more content on

The second category of curses are terminology swears. Terminology swears are notably worse than
unpleasant swears because they aren't just an unpleasant word to refer to someone as. They are
words that used to be the actual societally accepted term for a group of people, but the term has been
manipulated to be used in a derogatory way. The best example of this is the word "retard", now an
offensive term for someone with a learning disability the word retard has been subject to massive
overuse. Originating from the French retarder (to slow down) in the 1970's "retard" became the
medical term for those with mental retardation, but in the following decades the term was used in a
derogatory manor for anyone who seemed a bit slow and eventually was simply an everyday
derogatory term. This change from medical to vulgar happened almost overnight, and is proof to
how deep some of these terminology swears can cut. The two remaining swear words to be covered
are by far the worst. Unlike the unpleasant swears, these aren't offensive for some arbitrary reason,
and unlike the word "retard" these words did not originate from a medical term, these words
originated from a place of hatred and have been infused with hundreds of years of hatred, and
disgust for a group of people seen as undesirable. The words "faggot" and "nigger" I believe to be
the only two, true swear words on this list. Unlike the word "retard" which originated from a place
of love and a desire to help; the word "faggot" supposedly originates from the process of burning
homosexuals. Derived from the Latin word fascis (a bundle of wood), fascis became the Old French
word fagot meaning the same thing. It is an etymological myth that faggot bridged the gap between
"a bundle of sticks" and "homosexual" when homosexuals were burned for being gay, when they

Analysis Of Marble Chappe
Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi
Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don't even try? Well there is a saying that is
when you work hard it will pay off, and in the story "Marble Champ" by Gary Soto the main
character, Lupe Merdrano never stopped working hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end. The
reasons for this is that she was not good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it all
paid off in the future.
The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad at sports. But
the thing is she would say to herself, " I will never be good at sports." The first piece of evidence is
that she can't run very fast, for example in the story "Marble Champ" she would try and try to get
her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that
she is not good at sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements that
involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of evidence is that
she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her kicking it into her own teams net.
This shows that she didn't even know which net was and you need to know that to play a sport. My
third example is that she can't kick a ball in the right direction and can't kick it to well. This says that
she really once again doesn't know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if she is very
good at using her brain

Bad Blood or Just New Blood
Bad Blood or Just New Blood
Bastille's "Bad Blood" can be addicting even though individuals respond differently to the same type
of music. We sometimes hear it at various places we go to. It surrounds us and is a fundamental part
of our lives. You cannot escape it. Music is part of our lives'. Music is transmitted in different ways
like someone who is trying to get a message through, or it can just be an expression of ones ideas
and the overflow of emotions. That being implied remembering the Beatles of the 60's had the same
effect on individuals, and why this happens is somewhat of a mystery with all the groups out there
striving for fame. "Smith tells Rolling Stone. "I'm completely obsessed with strings in music, from

The album seems' to be a repeat of the same catchy tunes from the first album "Bad Blood" but with
some additional songs added to it. Best to buy the second Album unless you're a collector, and just
hope that future additional albums have newer original songs on them. If this is a sign of what is to
come with this group then their fame may be short lived once the catchy tune where' off. When you
listen to the album Bad Blood the rhythm is catchy kind of humdrum and simple in ways with all the
songs though the lyrics are different. Lyrics alone cannot support success. "Bastille has its sights set
on bigger things. "Bad Blood" is a sometimes catchy but ultimately fairly brittle album, and Mr.
Smith is a singer with character in his voice but without much power". (Caramanica 2014) "Sadly,
Smith's own writing takes a downward turn. Where the mix tapes are eclectic, intricately woven
pieces, his material lacks the same creative flare. Too often Smith relies on the same chord
sequences, the same dramatic production, the same vocal melodies and riffs. Individually the tracks
are exciting and novel, but once the musical style is established 'Bad Blood' is far too safe. Smith's
voice is missing dynamic range, resulting in an album that collectively falls flat. It's a problem that's
only exacerbated on the extended cut. 'Bad Blood' is desperately in need of a good trim, more
variety and a tighter focus. What's so disappointing is Bastille's potential. The album features

Bad Blood Study
In the video, researchers that conducted the study were people from the public health service. Also I
would also go as far as saying the US government along the lines of guilty by association. This
documentary stated many times the underlying motivation of this study and very clearly showed
racism as the gas pedal. African Americans were the target participants in this study, they were
discriminated against and said to have "bad blood". A women who helped in these studies and spoke
in the video stated that "the bad blood these people were interested in was syphilitic blood but in
general in that day and age bad blood could have meant a number of different things." Bad blood
could have meant anything from anemia to fatigue.
Q2)
In actuality there was only one stated purpose for this study and that was to study "the effects of
untreated syphilis in African Americans." Although the stated purpose the nearly 600 participants
heard was that this study was a cure for "bad blood." Not only were participants in this study
African American but they were also mostly poor, illiterate farmers in Alabama. The ideal test group

A Better Person InThe Alchemist, By Paulo Coelho
Imagine the impact of helping someone when they need it. When you help someone, it can make
someone's day, or make them want to help someone else, including you. Because of this, not only
you feel better but others will want to help you to. Characters who help someone will receive a
benefit, even if they do not know it at the start. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho,
Santiago learns, "When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes
better, too." First, good came after bad. Next, Santiago helps people who eventually help him. Last,
important lessons make Santiago become a better person.
First, good came after bad. For example, while Santiago is at Tarifa after he is robbed, he meets a
crystal merchant who allows him to clean his shop, which results in him getting a job there. "'When
they had eaten, the merchant turned to` the boy and said, 'I'd like you to work in my shop. Two
customers came in today while you were working, and that's a good omen'" (49). Good comes to
Santiago after he goes through the bad. He is robbed, and then he gets offered a job that will pay
him, so he has a chance to regain the money he just lost. Finally, since he still tries to become better,
he gets a job which will help him gain money for the journey. To conclude, Santiago learns that even
if something bad happens, if you still strive to become better, you will be awarded.
Next, Santiago's friends help him become better. To clarify, when Santiago is on the

Jeff And Digby's Maturity In Greasy Lake
Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to
experience and from the last vestiges of childhood into the opening round of maturity. The unnamed
narrator and his friends Jeff and Digby are what would today be referred to as poseurs although what
they are really are merely young men struggling to find their identity in an increasingly confusing
world. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by
these ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the
baptismal. Trouble begins with the trio makes a far more miscalculated misidentification: that of
thinking that a car parked up at Greasy Lake belongs to their friend Tony Lovett. As boys–not to

The narrator, Jeff, and Digby do not immediately flee in the face of the possibility of homicide.
Instead, they turn their attention to the greasy character's girlfriend, now alone and vulnerable and
utterly at the mercy of the skyrocketing levels of adrenaline and testosterone shooting through the
still not fully developed bodies of the three apparently quite average, ordinary and relatively
harmless suburbanites. It is not the kind of mercy that is desirable as the three move to work out
their mixture of aggression and sexuality on the girl. The arrival of another car quickly causes a
dispersal of the would–be gangbangers, however. The narrator chooses to escape by driving straight
into the lake where the night just gets weirder. What should his brief underwater getaway bring him
into contact with but an actual dead body which sends him scurrying away in terror? The dispersal
results in the congealing of shared boyhood nightmare as the trio manage to meet up again in the
woods, hidden from the suddenly gazing eye of reconstituted greasy character. Turns out he was

Social Media Good Or Bad Essay
Have you ever had a good or bad experience with social media? Have you ever been a part of a
protest that was started on social media? I think that social media is a good thing because you can
have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids
in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with
or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently
I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without
social media I would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and
have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho
they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind
of person you are and if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also
potentially make money from it and you can make friends. Things like Facebook are so convenient
to talk with friends or family without that we would need to call them and that is just so much harder
to do then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

much online and find so many cool and interesting things about things you did not even know
existed. Also you can buy things online so you do not have to go look for it in a store and have it not

Marya Mannes 'How Do You Know It's Good'
In a world that has become immune to accepting all types of art, Marya Mannes believes we have
lost our standards and ability to identify something as "good" or "bad". In her essay, "How Do You
Know It's Good", she discusses society's tendency to accept everything out of fear of wrongly
labelling something as being good or bad. She touches on various criteria to judge art, such as the
artist's purpose, skill and craftsmanship, originality, timelessness, as well as unity within a piece
rather than chaos. She says that an individual must decide if something is good "on the basis of
instinct, experience, and association" (Mannes). I believe that by using standards and the process of
association, we will be able to judge what makes an art piece good in comparison to others.
However, Mannes forces me to consider the difference between what may be appealing versus what
is actually good, and when deciding which art we should accept, which is truly more important. I
believe that "good" and "bad" are two ends of a large, subjective spectrum of grey area. It is possible
for a piece of art to be good in some areas and bad in others, and if something does not live up to all
of our standards, it does not necessarily mean it should be dismissed. Thus, I believe my personal
standards for judging art are based on which my standards are largely based on the personal reaction
evoked from a piece of art. Though I agree with Mannes' standards to an extent, I believe that
certain standards, such as evoking a personal response, can be more telling of if a piece of art is
good as opposed to its timelessness, or the level of experience of an artist in his/her craft. As
Mannes stated, the process of association is essential in determining the quality of art, by comparing
it to the other art we have seen. I am able to judge the multitexts I have read in class by using the
process of association to compare them to each other. For example, we are able to judge the quality
of the pieces by comparing and contrasting them to each other. All three of our multitexts used
certain writing models such as analogy poems and dialogue. Cusion's piece "Blame", is an analogy
poem that he used to build on his multitext, implicitly telling readers

"Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson
"Man in the Mirror", a song released in 1988 on Michael Jackson's seventh album "BAD". In this
song, Michael Jackson's purpose is to exhort me, you and everyone who listens to this song to start
with themselves if they want to make the world a better place.
When Michael Jackson released this song, there were hunger and endless wars in some parts of the
world, mainly in Africa. A large number of children was starving to death in those areas. Michael,
through his song, called out people to make a difference in the world by first taking a look and
examine themselves "Man in the Mirror."

The listener hears these words by Michael but these words seem to describe our daily experience.
This makes an appeal to pathos, stirring emotions. Michael wants the listener to remember that there
are people in our communities who suffer and that we should first care about them rather than
pretending not to see that they need our help.
"As I turned up the collar on my favorite winter coat this wind is blowing my mind."
Although he can remove himself physically from the problems he sees all around him–using his
winter coat as a physical protector– Michael can't escape or run away from the torment of his own
mind, knowing there's more he can do to change the world.

Caffeine Argument Analysis
In the world of health one well–known controversy is whether or not caffeine is good for you or if it
has any nutritional value. On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new
studies showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of
skin cancer which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. Based on my
research I've found that studies also show that caffeine "has been shown to enhance both physical
and cognitive performance in younger adults", as stated by M. J. Duncan in a study done in 2014.
Sheena Derry's studies from the University of Oxford show us that caffeine is a great remedy for
pain relief and migraines. Registered dietician Keri Glassman stated in an interview that caffeine can
help prevent well known diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson's. And lastly, in an article written
by Sara Altshul claims have been made that based on a study done in July 2015, caffeine can help
improve your memory. On the con side of the argument many doctors and journalists ... Show more

only basing my beliefs off of common misconceptions but am extremely glad I got to read into the
matter. I do believe caffeine is good for us, in moderation of course, but absolutely good for us. I
wouldn't tell everyone they need to start having caffeine right now if they want to be healthy, but if I
see someone drinking it I'll be sure to point out the little facts about how caffeine can improve our

Summary Of A Short Story
Having walked for a while, he came to the river bank that faced the farm. He made a whistle to call
the fisherman, who was offloading people's goods at the other bank. Asuo Panin waved at him and
he hurried up. Asuo Panin owned the canoe, it was the biggest canoe ever in the community, and as
a matter of fact the fisherman always hired a conductor in addition. He sailed toward him in delight.
Asuo Panin planted one foot in and then the other, he sat on the bar at the extreme end, infront of the
fisherman. He also wanted to have a word or two with him. The conductor assisted the other people
to onload their goods on board, he took the fare. "Adwuma dwumaoo," Asuo Panin greeted the
fisherman. "Adwuma yε" he responded, as turned to the other bank, the passengers chattered with
each other and waved at Asuo Kitiwa's papa. "Agya, maakyeoo" they said in an unpatterned manner.
"Maakyeoo anuanom, apomuε" "Apomu yε" they sang "Maame ne akraa no ε?" "Nyame adom, obia

Romeo And Juliet Bad Blood Quotes
The song Bad Blood would fit in Act 3 scene 1. The beginning of the scene has Romeo adamantly
tell Tybalt that he refuses to fight, and instead says, "But love thee better than thou canst devise/ Till
thou shalt know the reason of my love./ And so, good Capulet, which name I tender/ As dearly as
mine own, be satisfied" (lines 70–73). This quote shows that Romeo loves Tybalt like his own
family, because he is, though Tybalt does not know this. He will not fight Tybalt because he is
Juliet's cousin. Mercutio would not allow Tybalt to disrespect Romeo, and so they both fought.
Although Romeo tried to break up the fight, Mercutio was stabbed and killed by Tybalt. As soon as
Romeo realized that Tybalt killed his best friend, he forgets all about his decision to love Tybalt, and
gets his revenge for the death of Mercutio. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example from the song is, "Now we got problems/ And I don't think we can solve them/
You made a really deep cut/ And baby now we got bad blood". This would be like how Romeo is
furious with Tybalt, and that nothing would be able to stop him from killing Tybalt for vengeance.
An example of this would be when Romeo says, "Mercutio's soul/ Is but a little way above our
heads,/ Staying for thine to keep him company./ Either thou or I, or both, must go with him" (lines
131–134). Romeo in a sense trusted Tybalt because he was family, but because he killed Mercutio,
he lost that

Analysis Of Bad Blood By Katy Perry
Let the battle of the divas commence! Katy Perry is working on a reply to Taylor Swift's "Bad

with her ex boyfriend Diplo on the supposed track. "Katy knew Diplo would be just the man to
produce "Crocodile Tears" for her and has now registered it," an unnamed source told Hollywood
Life. The pairing is perfect for the song, seeing as how Diplo has not had a great relationship with
Swift either. Back in 2014, Diplo completely humiliated the "Style" singer about her not so

"So far she's been very restrained with what she's said about Taylor in public but is now ready to put
her side across via the song," the source said. The song is all about being fake, which is appropriate
seeing as how crocodile tears are tears that are fabricated and insincere. Reportedly, Swift is not
phased by Perry's upcoming diss track. The 25–year–old singer believes the song will help her
career in the long run. "She [Taylor Swift] thinks it will help her out because it'll draw more sales
for her own single "Bad Blood," Hollywood Life reported. Swift is not sweating over "Crocodile
Tears" and welcomes the competition. "She's super relaxed about it, and welcomes the rivalry. Katy
doesn't scare her one bit." Swift isn't the only person the "Dark Horse" singer is trying to take down.
There is still no decision on if Perry will be able to purchase the convent property in Los Feliz. Perry
is up against some pretty tough nuns that refuse to let her have the gorgeous space. Judge James C.
Chalfant has placed a hold on the property until the next hearing on September 15. So no one is

A Reflection On Bad Blood Essay
Bad Blood
Have you ever been wrong? Have you ever pushed aside the opinions of everyone who matters in
your life when they were screaming the opposite of your feelings and gone with your gut feeling?
Maybe you have. Maybe it was something as small as a place you picked for dinner that accidentally
gave your entire family food poisoning. Maybe it was a friend. Maybe it was a significant person in
your life. For me it was ever putting my trust in Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, Ted,
Cosmos and many other animated programs on Fox, despite the fair warnings from everyone from
my mentor to his assistants to my friends phone calls as there were actual fools. My friends
forwarding me very subtle articles from Rolling Stones entitled "A Brief History in Hating Seth
MacFarlane". No one ever questions the benefits of positive emotions, especially in America, but
nearly no one assumes that there could possibly be a negative side–effect of the sunny joyous
feelings. Negative emotions are not only crucial to our existence but also–ironically–to feeling good.
To live optimally in the real world and endure its numerous and endless challenges, it 's necessary to
engage the full range of psychological states we 've inherited as humans. Overly positive emotions
over the last year have left me emotionally hardened to trusting, yet somehow negative emotions
have made me closer than ever to my mentor in wake of the betrayal of our once potential co–
executive producer which has

Argumentative Essay Buy Nothing Day
Buy Nothing Day The first ever Buy Nothing Day was held in Canada on 1992. Buy Nothing Day
was organized as a day where no goods would be purchased, and as a result of this boycott of goods
it would raise awareness of the ethical and environmental implications of overconsumption. This is a
great and innovative idea that gives publicity to a neglected issue, which is the implications of
overconsumption. Nowadays people do not realize how much damage overconsumption actually
does to our world. They fail to realize that their brand new Nike sneakers were made by child labor

Bad Blood, Good Nursing

  • 1. Bad Blood, Good Nursing Bad Blood, Good Nursing In the famous words of Maya Angelou, "When you know better, you do better." The historical course of nursing is the epitome of this statement. There are a great many things in the long history of our chosen field to be proud of ranging from the advancements made by Florence Nightingale to the support the nursing community gave to Kelly Johnson following her two–minute speech during the 2015 Miss America Pageant. With that being said, there have been a few mistakes along the way. One such mistake involves the role that the infamous Nurse Rivers played in the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Today, we know that nurses have an ethical duty to intervene when an unethical practice is found, both for the safety of the patient and the integrity of the title RN. Nurses may have difficulty intervening with unethical practices of a doctor because of the negative effects it may have on the working relationship. However, after reviewing what occurred within the Tuskegee study, we've seen what happens when a nurse fails in this duty. Taken out of context it's easy to condemn Nurse Rivers for blindly following doctors' orders to the detriment of hundreds of lives. However, to learn from her mistake, we must fully understand why she acted in the manner that she did. If we take a moment to consider the fact that she was a black woman born into a certain generation, it's a bit easier to understand her perspective. (Insert Timeline Here!) Bad Blood Monologue 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood You know it used to be mad love So take a look what you've done 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood Hey Now we got problems And I don't think we can solve them You made a really deep cut And, baby, now we got bad blood Hey Did you have to do this? I was thinking that you could be trusted Did you have to ruin what was shiny? Now it's all rusted Did you have to hit me, where I'm weak? Baby, I couldn't breathe And rub it in so deep, salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times, you and I 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood You know it used to be mad love So take a look what you've done 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood Hey Now we got problems ... • 5. Everything Bad Is Good For You Analysis Steven Johnson's book, Everything Bad Is Good For You, paints a modern picture of the way in which technology has affected us in a mostly positive way. Johnson has also written about neuroscience, computer technology, and media studies in his previous books. In his book Everything Bad Is Good For You, Johnson uses comparisons between two different eras of television to point out the varying complexities between the simple plotlines of older TV, and the highly complex plotlines of modern TV. For example, people can watch television dramas such as 24, which in comparison to older shows are many times more complicated and more difficult to understand. If the much less complicated show Hill Street Blues confused the developing TV audiences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Modern Television has become much more complicated according to Johnson. For example, Johnson writes, "Draw an 5 outline of the narrative threads in almost every Dragnet episode and it will be a single line" (66). However "A Hill Street Blues episode complicates the picture in a number of profound ways. The narrative weaves together a collection of distinct strands– sometimes as many as ten" (67). Johnson uses these examples of older and newer television shows to support his claim of the increased complexity of modern TV as opposed to the old simplistic formula used for shows prior to the groundbreaking show Hill Street Blues. Johnson's argument is that if our brains have become accustomed to following increasingly complex plotlines as TV has matured, then television has actually had a positive impact on our brains. Walter Kirn writes in regards to Johnsons persuasiveness " Johnson's argument isn't strictly scientific, relying on hypothesis and tests, but more observational and impressionistic. Its persuasive anyhow. When he compares contemporary hit crime dramas like 'The Sopranos' and '24', ––with their elaborate, multilevel plotlines teeming casts of characters and open–ended narrative structures – with popular numbskull clunkers of yore like 'Starsky and Hutch.'" The point is, this, Johnson's approach to his argument may not be strictly scientific, however, it sure as hell is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Personal Narrative: What My Grandfather Meant By Bad Blood Years later, I learned what my Grandfather meant by "bad blood". As a kid, he had stepped on a nail, damaging his foot, piercing a vein, resulting in a massive loss of blood. He of course was rushed to a hospital and received a transfusion, replacing his lost blood. However, medical procedures were not to the high standards we see today. Anyone could donate blood, without tests being done, without figuring out if their blood was pure, infection free. We will never know if the person who donated the blood my grandfather received knew if they were sick. We will never know if they knew that they had Hepatitis. But hospitals didn't check back then and perform tests, so my grandfather received that blood, helping him then in the moment, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So many people had known him in his life and had been touched by his love, and his actions. And as most funerals go, there is a point where someone addresses the people who came to honor the life that's lost. In my grandfather's case, my grandmother wanted to do it. At that point in the funeral, I was tired, I was bored. I was so young and had no patience and little respect. My mother had just told me to sit still and be quiet when my grandma ascended the stairs to the podium. She walked, slowly, but confidently to the microphone. She looked out into the crowd and started to talk, when her voice cracked, and that was all it took. I watched as my grandmother broke down, loosing the will to hold herself upright, crying, looking devastated, while my Dad rushed onto the stage to help her down. To get her to sit, to give her some water, to comfort her. As this happened, all I could think was "why didn't Grandpa help Grandma down from the stage? Why isn't Grandpa here to comfort Grandma when she is upset?" Being a child, I didn't understand what questions were wrong or when the time was wrong to ask them, and I remember turning to my mother and asking those same questions I just thought, out loud to her. The look I received is one I'll never forget. So much pity and sorrow in one look. My mother leaned down close to me, hugged me and looked me in the eyes as she said: "Grandpa isn't here anymore. Grandpa isn't coming back. He has passed on and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ethical Research In Bad Blood The pioneering spirit of research has answered countless questions, cured countless illnesses, and has prevented the loss of countless lives. Yet, although there is infinite potential in obtaining knowledge that could revolutionize the medical, social, and physiological world, research must not be conducted in a way that compromises the human subjects that are included in the study. For this discussion board, I will be discussing the case study "Bad Blood" while focusing on some of the ethical dilemmas that were involved in this specific case study. According to LoBiondo–Wood and Haber (2013), ethics is defined as a theory or discipline that deals with moral values and conduct. As members of the health care team, each of us is responsible to uphold certain standards of ethical care. Likewise, those who conduct research are required to uphold standards of ethical and legal research practices. This however, was not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the 1970's, and the creation of federal guidelines for ethical conduct involving human researched subjects, many cases of unethical research practices were routinely conducted. Now, in the age of the institutional review boards (IRB) human subjects are protected from being involved in any study that unduly exposes them to harmful or unethical research participation (Nichols, 2016). Yet, despite the measures that are currently set in place, unethical research can still happen in today's modern world. Therefore, diligence must still be upheld to prevent unethical research practices. As seen in the article by Fourtner, Fourtner, and Herreid (2000), unethical studies have taken place throughout history including the famous Tuskegee, Alabama, Syphilis Study. Interestingly, the study was created with good intensions. At the start of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. What Is The Climax Of The Old Willis Place Could you be friends with a ghost? You journey through this question with Mary Downing Hahn's book, "The Old Willis Place." In The Old Willis Place, two children, Diana and Georgie live together on a farm with a abandoned house. The farm has caretakers that don't take care of the farm at all. Though Diana and Georgie are bound by "the rules" Diana talks to the caretaker's daughter, Lissa. The two become best friends. But one day, when the two venture into the old house, Lissa lets out Ms. Lillian's ghost, who despises, and had killed Diana and Georgie decades ago. Late one night, Ms. Lillian finds Diana and Georgie. The two find out the truth about what really happened the night they died. In the end, all three ghosts go with Diana and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She and her father prove they are dynamic characters because they both thought of Diana as a troublemaker and a monster at first, but now they think of her as a sweet, pretty, and shy girl. They continue to progress that way of thinking throughout the story, and keep thinking the nice things. Diana also begins to think of Lissa of a nice friend, rather than a snob like she thought in the beginning. Therefore making them round characters. The Old Willis Place, takes place on a farm, which is a common setting for many books. You are told about this when Lissa writes in her diary, saying, "The first day we came to the farm, there was people in the woods spying on us." (20) She and her father take care of the farm and live in a trailer. They are one of many caretakers. Most of the caretakers left because Diana and Georgie steal things from them, and haunt them. Diana and Georgie live in the woods, another part of the setting, "I slipped into the woods to find my brother." (8) They live in the woods, which is another setting. These two quotes in the book show that there is not only a setting, but a common setting. The book The Old Willis Place is believable because there is round characters, dynamic characters, and a common setting. You would want to read this book because it has an important message inside. The message is to always follow the rules, and if you don't bad things will happen. It teaches you why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Bad Blood: The Tuskegee Study The main ethical issues that I have found to be compelling are several and my reaction is "oh my", an expression of what is wrong with that time period when I completed reading Bad Blood: The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, by James H. Jones. I had no idea that our government and public officials used African Americans for such a terrible experiment. It is beyond a belief that our country who is "One Nation Under God", would subject one class of citizens for such an experiment that I would personally classify as plain outright genocide. Are we no better that what the Nazi's did during World War II? The Nazi's conducted live experiments on mostly Jews, another of class of societies citizens; that no man or woman and child would be spared at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would like to say the most prominent person that stands out in the book is Fred Gray. Mr. Gray was "Tuskegee's most prominent black lawyer and of Alabama's leading civil rights activist" (Jones, pg. 212). He stands out to me, because only an African American can really understand the nature and impact of those that were put through the Tuskegee experiment. It is only that if we can identify with what those men had gone through for the many years of medical malpractice to the highest degree. Politicians, as well State leaders, and public health officials had the duty to protect all Americans from such atrocities. That is why Mr. Fred Gray stands out in this book. He can identify with his fellow black Americans. In this case he is the best man suited to handle the grave injustices for the Tuskegee men. I would like to point that his resume is impeccable as only one of few black lawyers to argue before the Supreme Court of the United States. The other prominent African American lawyer to argue several cases before U.S.S.C. was Thurgood Marshall, an icon in the civil rights movement and future associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Another individual that was prominent in the Tuskegee experiment and civil rights was a white man by the name of Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts. Without the perseverance ... • 15. Greasy Lake Analysis "Greasy Lake" – Story Analysis "Greasy Lake" was published in 1985 along with other stories from the author, T. Corahessan Boyle. The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys 'living on the edge', in which the author presents himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C. Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the underlying meanings and subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a direct judgment of the characters. After reading between the lines, one quickly finds out who the characters are, but more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The unknown aggressor starts to engage in hand–on–hand combat with the three. The narrator reminds us that Digby, a friend of the narrator's, has just finished a course in martial arts (that his parents probably helped pay). Digby stands in position with wrists cocked and ankles bent in a 'swan like' stance ready for the assailant, but sadly for the young ninja, the narrator tells us, "The greasy character was not impressed. He merely backed off a step, his face like a Toltec mask, and laid Digby out with a single whistling roundhouse blow (Boyle 166) . . ." Tough guys do not get knocked out in one blow, they stand and fight. When all hope for the young rebels seems to be lost, the narrator remembers an old tire iron he has hidden under his seat. He recalls the last time he was in a fight, which was too long ago to even matter. "I came at him and brought the tire iron down on his ear (Boyle 166)." Primal instinct kicked in and the greaser from the 57' Chevy was out cold. It was far from a deserving victory as the one man put up a hell of a fight. The greaser nearly nailed a hat trick if it wasn't for the narrator's cheap knockout. In reality only cowards fight with metal pipes, real bad dudes fight with their fists. Now if the unworthy victory was not enough for the pathetic trio, they proceeded to attack the greaser's innocent girlfriend. Weak and helpless, no shoes or pants, they had her pinned against the car half naked. Just before a horrific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Maze Runner Research Paper THE MAZE RUNNER I'll say straight away that this isn't a bad film, there are definitely a lot worse and it isn't the worst of 2014 either. But it just isn't that good either, if i could've given this 3 and a half stars I would've, but we're stuck with 3. The Maze Runner didn't interest me when it was released in cinema, I hadn't heard the greatest reviews about it, just mediocre things, and seeing the trailer it didn't really stand out to me personally. For the record I haven't read the books either, so I can't compare book to film like a lot of people are able to. When walking around HMV, as I do, I saw it and thought I'd give it a try, and I'll say this, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's a lot better then the Divergent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's fun to see it changing all the time, gives some intense scenes, the way that the 'runners' traverse through it is great to watch. The environment in which Thomas is thrown into at the start, the camp if you will, looks amazing, especially on blu–ray and you can tell that they've been there a while and have learned to live amongst each other. I've mentioned which characters I like and dislike, but the bond that they all have seems pretty legit and not forced onto the screen in front of you. Unfortunately the ending was pretty poor, I've heard people mention this and I'll repeat it but, they basically tell you to your face 'oh yeah, there will be a second film just so you know', they couldn't have been more blatant about it! The last 15 minutes were boring for me , where this movie is at it's best is the start, before the girl comes into it, and some scenes in the middle which I don't want to spoil for those who haven't seen it. Although most of these experiences have an irreversible effect on us, we still tend to forget these precious memories, as they are simply too embarrassing and painful to remember. In the extract from "Bad blood" by Lorna Sage, the author shows how the incident on the school playground has impacted her as an adult and her own personality. Lorna Sage highlights the hardships and challenges of childhood and their importance in future life. The author has displayed this theme throughout the text by using interesting characters, a unique setting, figurative language and an occasional tone. In the text, the narrator introduces two characters: Herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader can form a vivid picture of Gail´s appearance and senses how different Gail is from the narrator and the rest of the girls. Metaphors were used when describing the relationship between Gail and the narrator: "She'd have won our war in any case ......" This show how violence and bullying in school are seen as wars in the eyes of children. This is how serious than what the adults think it would be, who have most likely forgotten their own experiences with these issues while they were children. These were the feeling of the narrator after the situation: "...... so that she made me feel like an unstrung puppet." • 27. Relationship Between Teacher And Students Relationships in the classroom Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher 's work matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of research supports the idea that a good teacher–student relationship helps the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2]–[5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore. Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their lives and don 't usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But also there are many people who think he's not a hero but in my opinion i do think he is a hero because it shows that in the text "Bad Blood". Cause the text is about a boy who like to steal things that doesn't always make you a bad person deep inside and you should always trust yourself. So there are a lot of way Jared is a hero. The reason why i think Jared is a hero is because mainly in the beginning he didn't know her well enough to understand what happened in her life. Basically he just wanted to steal from the lady named Mrs. Anderson and she also didn't know the boy Jared really was. He worked for her for 2 whole years and didn't steal one thing from her which means he did nothing wrong the whole time with her and he even didn't want her to pay him to help her out and he didn't want to take anything yet. Bad stress. The two are viewed as the Superman and Lex Luger – archnemeses. Yet, is good stress different from bad stress, and does each produce a different response in the human body? Even doctors and psychologists take opposing views on the concept of good versus bad stress. It is akin to the 1980s debate about good egg/bad egg as it pertained to cholesterol. That debate still exists, as does the debate over how much stress, and what "kind" of stress is good or bad for us. One of the authoritative papers on stress, "Physiology and Neurobiology of Stress and Adaptation: Central Role of The Brain" by Bruce S. McEwen, examines that question closely, and says that there the two terms refer to the same physiological response, but that there are marked differences. In other words, there is only stress, but short–term responses can be adaptive, while prolonged exposure or reaction to stress can be maladaptive and harmful. He says that stress is a word used to describe challenges that are emotionally or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Why Good Are Bad Good Words Bad? Why are bad words bad? It's a question no one has the answer to. Ask someone and the only response you will get is "because they just are." Yes yes, but why? Simply put, it's because swear words are strong. Human conversation fundamentally needs different levels of emphasis to be able to differentiate between the good and the great, the funny and the hilarious, the bad and the horrible, et cetera. A word's intensity or power is directly inverse to how frequently the word is used. As you ascend the totem pole of word intensity the words become less and less common and thus more and more powerful. And at one point you cross a line; you have ascended into a group of words that are so uncommon, so taboo, that they have immense power, swear words. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second category of curses are terminology swears. Terminology swears are notably worse than unpleasant swears because they aren't just an unpleasant word to refer to someone as. They are words that used to be the actual societally accepted term for a group of people, but the term has been manipulated to be used in a derogatory way. The best example of this is the word "retard", now an offensive term for someone with a learning disability the word retard has been subject to massive overuse. Originating from the French retarder (to slow down) in the 1970's "retard" became the medical term for those with mental retardation, but in the following decades the term was used in a derogatory manor for anyone who seemed a bit slow and eventually was simply an everyday derogatory term. This change from medical to vulgar happened almost overnight, and is proof to how deep some of these terminology swears can cut. The two remaining swear words to be covered are by far the worst. Unlike the unpleasant swears, these aren't offensive for some arbitrary reason, and unlike the word "retard" these words did not originate from a medical term, these words originated from a place of hatred and have been infused with hundreds of years of hatred, and disgust for a group of people seen as undesirable. The words "faggot" and "nigger" I believe to be the only two, true swear words on this list. Unlike the word "retard" which originated from a place of love and a desire to help; the word "faggot" supposedly originates from the process of burning homosexuals. Derived from the Latin word fascis (a bundle of wood), fascis became the Old French word fagot meaning the same thing. It is an etymological myth that faggot bridged the gap between "a bundle of sticks" and "homosexual" when homosexuals were burned for being gay, when they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Analysis Of Marble Chappe Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don't even try? Well there is a saying that is when you work hard it will pay off, and in the story "Marble Champ" by Gary Soto the main character, Lupe Merdrano never stopped working hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end. The reasons for this is that she was not good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it all paid off in the future. The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad at sports. But the thing is she would say to herself, " I will never be good at sports." The first piece of evidence is that she can't run very fast, for example in the story "Marble Champ" she would try and try to get her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good at sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements that involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of evidence is that she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her kicking it into her own teams net. This shows that she didn't even know which net was and you need to know that to play a sport. My third example is that she can't kick a ball in the right direction and can't kick it to well. This says that she really once again doesn't know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if she is very good at using her brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We sometimes hear it at various places we go to. It surrounds us and is a fundamental part of our lives. You cannot escape it. Music is part of our lives'. Music is transmitted in different ways like someone who is trying to get a message through, or it can just be an expression of ones ideas and the overflow of emotions. When you listen to the album Bad Blood the rhythm is catchy kind of humdrum and simple in ways with all the songs though the lyrics are different. Lyrics alone cannot support success. "Bastille has its sights set on bigger things. "Bad Blood" is a sometimes catchy but ultimately fairly brittle album, and Mr. Smith is a singer with character in his voice but without much power". (Caramanica 2014) "Sadly, Smith's own writing takes a downward turn. Where the mix tapes are eclectic, intricately woven pieces, his material lacks the same creative flare. Too often Smith relies on the same chord sequences, the same dramatic production, the same vocal melodies and riffs. Individually the tracks are exciting and novel, but once the musical style is established 'Bad Blood' is far too safe. Smith's voice is missing dynamic range, resulting in an album that collectively falls flat. It's a problem that's only exacerbated on the extended cut. 'Bad Blood' is desperately in need of a good trim, more variety and a tighter focus. What's so disappointing is Bastille's potential. The album features ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Marya Mannes 'How Do You Know It's Good' In a world that has become immune to accepting all types of art, Marya Mannes believes we have lost our standards and ability to identify something as "good" or "bad". In her essay, "How Do You Know It's Good", she discusses society's tendency to accept everything out of fear of wrongly labelling something as being good or bad. She touches on various criteria to judge art, such as the artist's purpose, skill and craftsmanship, originality, timelessness, as well as unity within a piece rather than chaos. She says that an individual must decide if something is good "on the basis of instinct, experience, and association" (Mannes). I believe that by using standards and the process of association, we will be able to judge what makes an art piece good in comparison to others. However, Mannes forces me to consider the difference between what may be appealing versus what is actually good, and when deciding which art we should accept, which is truly more important. I believe that "good" and "bad" are two ends of a large, subjective spectrum of grey area. It is possible for a piece of art to be good in some areas and bad in others, and if something does not live up to all of our standards, it does not necessarily mean it should be dismissed. Thus, I believe my personal standards for judging art are based on which my standards are largely based on the personal reaction evoked from a piece of art. Though I agree with Mannes' standards to an extent, I believe that certain standards, such as evoking a personal response, can be more telling of if a piece of art is good as opposed to its timelessness, or the level of experience of an artist in his/her craft. As Mannes stated, the process of association is essential in determining the quality of art, by comparing it to the other art we have seen. I am able to judge the multitexts I have read in class by using the process of association to compare them to each other. For example, we are able to judge the quality of the pieces by comparing and contrasting them to each other. All three of our multitexts used certain writing models such as analogy poems and dialogue. • 61. Caffeine Argument Analysis In the world of health one well–known controversy is whether or not caffeine is good for you or if it has any nutritional value. On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new studies showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of skin cancer which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. Based on my research I've found that studies also show that caffeine "has been shown to enhance both physical and cognitive performance in younger adults", as stated by M. J. Duncan in a study done in 2014. Sheena Derry's studies from the University of Oxford show us that caffeine is a great remedy for pain relief and migraines. Registered dietician Keri Glassman stated in an interview that caffeine can help prevent well known diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson's. And lastly, in an article written by Sara Altshul claims have been made that based on a study done in July 2015, caffeine can help improve your memory. On the con side of the argument many doctors and journalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article was loaded with information and references to studies done by doctors all showing how great caffeine can be for you. I never realized that we could actually help ourselves prevent common diseases just by doing something as simple as having a cup of coffee a day, which is quite enjoyable too. I knew I was not very educated in the subject so it wasn't very hard to change my mind. I was only basing my beliefs off of common misconceptions but am extremely glad I got to read into the matter. I do believe caffeine is good for us, in moderation of course, but absolutely good for us. I wouldn't tell everyone they need to start having caffeine right now if they want to be healthy, but if I see someone drinking it I'll be sure to point out the little facts about how caffeine can improve our ... • 69. Romeo And Juliet Bad Blood Quotes The song Bad Blood would fit in Act 3 scene 1. The beginning of the scene has Romeo adamantly tell Tybalt that he refuses to fight, and instead says, "But love thee better than thou canst devise/ Till thou shalt know the reason of my love./ And so, good Capulet, which name I tender/ As dearly as mine own, be satisfied" (lines 70–73). This quote shows that Romeo loves Tybalt like his own family, because he is, though Tybalt does not know this. He will not fight Tybalt because he is Juliet's cousin. Mercutio would not allow Tybalt to disrespect Romeo, and so they both fought. Although Romeo tried to break up the fight, Mercutio was stabbed and killed by Tybalt. As soon as Romeo realized that Tybalt killed his best friend, he forgets all about his decision to love Tybalt, and gets his revenge for the death of Mercutio. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example from the song is, "Now we got problems/ And I don't think we can solve them/ You made a really deep cut/ And baby now we got bad blood". This would be like how Romeo is furious with Tybalt, and that nothing would be able to stop him from killing Tybalt for vengeance. An example of this would be when Romeo says, "Mercutio's soul/ Is but a little way above our heads,/ Staying for thine to keep him company./ Either thou or I, or both, must go with him" (lines 131–134). Romeo in a sense trusted Tybalt because he was family, but because he killed Mercutio, he lost that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Analysis Of Bad Blood By Katy Perry Let the battle of the divas commence! Katy Perry is working on a reply to Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood", which is known to be about the feud between Perry and the former. Perry has teamed up with her ex boyfriend Diplo on the supposed track. "Katy knew Diplo would be just the man to produce "Crocodile Tears" for her and has now registered it," an unnamed source told Hollywood Life. The pairing is perfect for the song, seeing as how Diplo has not had a great relationship with Swift either. Back in 2014, Diplo completely humiliated the "Style" singer about her not so voluptuous butt. " Someone should make a kickstarter to get taylor swift a booty," he wrote. Diplo took it even further when he actually started a fund for Swift's booty. I guess he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "So far she's been very restrained with what she's said about Taylor in public but is now ready to put her side across via the song," the source said. The song is all about being fake, which is appropriate seeing as how crocodile tears are tears that are fabricated and insincere. Reportedly, Swift is not phased by Perry's upcoming diss track. The 25–year–old singer believes the song will help her career in the long run. "She [Taylor Swift] thinks it will help her out because it'll draw more sales for her own single "Bad Blood," Hollywood Life reported. Swift is not sweating over "Crocodile Tears" and welcomes the competition. "She's super relaxed about it, and welcomes the rivalry. Katy doesn't scare her one bit." Swift isn't the only person the "Dark Horse" singer is trying to take down. There is still no decision on if Perry will be able to purchase the convent property in Los Feliz. Perry is up against some pretty tough nuns that refuse to let her have the gorgeous space. Judge James C. Chalfant has placed a hold on the property until the next hearing on September 15. So no one is getting the place to themselves, as of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. A Reflection On Bad Blood Essay Bad Blood Have you ever been wrong? Have you ever pushed aside the opinions of everyone who matters in your life when they were screaming the opposite of your feelings and gone with your gut feeling? Maybe you have. Maybe it was something as small as a place you picked for dinner that accidentally gave your entire family food poisoning. Maybe it was a friend. Maybe it was a significant person in your life. For me it was ever putting my trust in Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, Ted, Cosmos and many other animated programs on Fox, despite the fair warnings from everyone from my mentor to his assistants to my friends phone calls as there were actual fools. My friends forwarding me very subtle articles from Rolling Stones entitled "A Brief History in Hating Seth MacFarlane". No one ever questions the benefits of positive emotions, especially in America, but nearly no one assumes that there could possibly be a negative side–effect of the sunny joyous feelings. Negative emotions are not only crucial to our existence but also–ironically–to feeling good. To live optimally in the real world and endure its numerous and endless challenges, it 's necessary to engage the full range of psychological states we 've inherited as humans. Overly positive emotions over the last year have left me emotionally hardened to trusting, yet somehow negative emotions have made me closer than ever to my mentor in wake of the betrayal of our once potential co– executive producer which has ... Buy Nothing Day was organized as a day where no goods would be purchased, and as a result of this boycott of goods it would raise awareness of the ethical and environmental implications of overconsumption. This is a great and innovative idea that gives publicity to a neglected issue, which is the implications of overconsumption. Nowadays people do not realize how much damage overconsumption actually does to our world. They fail to realize that their brand new Nike sneakers were made by child labor in a crammed sweatshop somewhere in Asia. They fail to realize how much pollution was released into the environment from mass production in factories, so that they could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
