Claim. It is exact.

Proof:

X = .999999......

Multiply bothe sides of the equation by 10.

10X = 9.99999.......

Notice the decimal point has moved one unit to the right.
Take the second equation and subtract the first equation.

                   10X = 9.999999......
                  - X = .999999.......
                    9X= 9

Notice that the 9's subtract to zero.

                 So 9X = 9     => X=1.
Learning activity.

Use the Multiplicative Inverse
Property to solve the equation.

           10x = 20
Multiply both sides of the equation
by the multiplicative inverse of the
    coefficient of the variable.

     (1/10)(10)x = 20(1/10)

             So, x = 2
