This document contains a rubric for a student's presentation, design, studio skills, and objective for an art assignment. The student was asked to create a papier-mâché vehicle based on where they want to go, who they would take, and how they would get there. They then completed a charcoal drawing of the vehicle from observation. The rubric assesses the student's drawing qualities like use of value, form, and space. It also contains a section for the student to write a reflective artist statement addressing the story of their vehicle, their experience with charcoal, what they are proud of and want to improve regarding both the vehicle and drawing.
Mrs. Davis introduces the concept of turning a shape into a form through value and contrast by shading and rendering an object ultimately turning the real lines into implied lines to create realism.

I have tried to explain the elementary fundamentals of drawing like shapes, forms, shading, perspective drawing etc.
This training material was prepared for my team consisting primarily of Graphic Designers with the objective that they'd start approaching their work like artists.
There are plenty of exercises at the end of each section as well... hope you enjoy it!

The drawing is free of
excess smudges, tears,

charcoal media (compressed/

a full range of values, from the
darkest possible darks to the
lightest possible lights, with greys
in between.
You have avoided using lines to
define your objects, and have
instead relied on shapes of values
and light to create forms.
