CASE STUDY
VR SIMULATION
02
With increasing complexity, high-risk business
environment and intense competition, aviation is
constantly on the lookout for technological
enhancements to maintain cost efficiency,
improve safety, increase employee productivity,
and above all, deliver enriched customer
experiences. In this digital era of industry4.0,
immersive technology - Augmented Reality (AR),
Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) could
reinvigorate the end user experience. The journey
to ascension starts with airport simulation and
this simulation model is a feasible and effective
approach to train ground staff to model
passenger movements in airports.

Objective
The project aims to provide training to
the ground staff on operating the
passenger stairs. The instructions are fed
into VR headsets to provide a realistic
walk-through to ground staff to
incorporate learnings from actual flight
operations.

This simulation model provides a convenient way
for space design and service allocations, which
contributes to the enhancement of ground staff
experiences.

05
Workflow
Step by step instructions to operate passenger stairs is fed into any VR
headset
Trainees have to follow each step in proper order to jump into the next
respective stage of training.
Scores of trainees are captured as per their performance in each training
level.
The simulation comprises - trainee view and trainer view.
In trainee view, one’s own interactions can be captured and in trainer
view every action chosen by the trainee can be invigilated by the trainer.
The trainer can provide proper instruction to the trainees through
message passing.

In aviation industries, emergency situations can be simulated through VR headsets
in a risk-free environment. By incorporating immersive technologies, the need for
dedicated aircrafts and trainers can be reduced thus saving time and cost.
Immersive technologies steer this industry towards an efficient future of emerging
opportunities.
