This document discusses the challenges people on the autism spectrum face when transitioning from education to the workplace and progressing their careers. Some of the key differences they may experience include having to work independently, interpreting workplace rules that can seem illogical, relying more on social skills, and adapting to others' agendas instead of their own. Both employees on the spectrum and their employers need support systems in place to help with things like providing direction, opportunities to learn by observing others, and mentorship from experienced employees to help them achieve mastery over time and grow in confidence in their roles.
