This document summarizes a study that evaluated the English language proficiency examination system for tertiary students in Saudi Arabia. The study found issues with how English skills are currently assessed. Speaking skills are often assessed through written tests, and translation is over-emphasized instead of being a course outcome. The study aims to analyze exam question papers based on modern assessment literature and provide recommendations to better test students' language abilities and align exams with classroom learning. A questionnaire was also administered to collect student perspectives on the exams. The goal is to improve the assessment system to more accurately measure students' language proficiency and potential to apply skills in real-world contexts.
