Managers are now more frequently being surprised by employees announcing “I quit.” Clearly we must treat every employee as a critical resource. Now more than ever, we need to take a hard look at how to retain the employees you already have, and how to find and hire the best talent in today’s marketplace.

What's new in this version is I introduce myself via a Pecha Kucha video.
I first ask the question. "What is Entrepreneurship?"
I follow-up with my favorite definition of a business.
Then I address the questions:
* What is the journey like?
* What is the process?
* How do I learn about customers?
* How do I keep score?
I focus on 5 Points — Purpose, You, Process, Customers, and Scorecard.
Purpose » Drucker’s Purpose of Business,
You » Martin’s Knowledge Funnel + Soft-Skills,
Process » Blank’s Customer Development,
Customers » Moore’s Crossing the Chasm + Product/Service Journey Sketch,
Scorecard » Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

AUDIENCE QUESTION: As a quick straw poll, how many people think the WA employment market will pick up this year?, will flat-line or will go down?
AUDIENCE QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE BIG FUTURE TRENDS?
Career vs Job: Money not a motivator, go above and beyond in their work, pragmatic perfectionist, think and act long-term
Life Student: Happy to Fail (flearner), loves the process of learning, critical thinker, problem solver, broad perspective.
BHAGS: finisher, genuine life purpose, think exponential not incremental, understands the process of achievement.
SME: go to person, tribe is A players, impeccable track record, independent reputation as a SME.
All about the TEAM: 1+1=3 team synergy, Tribe before self (selfless), Serving the purpose (M/V/V)
PAY IT FORWARD: Surveys show the market (employers, recruiters etc.) think real talent has a reputation for genuinely sharing their experience, knowledge and skills. By giving first they receive back twice as much.
A PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS IMPROVING: Ask yourself this question - How much time to you invest in your personal development per week / month / year. In my opinion it should be 10% of the average hours you work per week. Eg 40 hours – 4 hours per week. Invest 10% getting better at your job today.
GE – promotes top 10% of their performers every year.
QUESTION: CAN I HAVE A SHOW OF HANDS – WHO HAS HEARD AND KNOWS ABOUT EQ? ANYONE SAT AN EQ TEST BEFORE?
ANYONE WORKED WITH A PERSON WHO WAS INTELLECTUALLY SMART BUT A PAIN IN THE BUTT? .
Getting praise from your boss is good. Getting praise from a peer is GREAT. When is the last time you praised someone?
Great talent debate the issues and have well thought out options and solutions to problems. They don’t take things personally, don’t whinge, undermine, set up ticking time bombs etc.
BE A GOOD CONSULTANT: Communicate effectively AND efficiently up and down the line. They don’t make anyone look dumb.
DONE AN EQ TEST LATELY?
LINKEDIN: it’s a professional profile – no selfies, good grammar.
AUDIENCE QUESTION: Who thinks there is such a thing as job security?
INTERVIEWED: your 2 & 5 minute pitch. Improve your interview skills - video, trial and error etc.
