An Austin group health insurance agent, says latest offer gives low-income families who missed the previous enrollment period a chance to net free health insurance at a time when they need it most.

Premiums on the Marketplace

Austin group health insurance has been more affordable than ever over the
past year with help from the increasingly popular Affordable Care Act and
a push for health insurance for all.

Now more than ever, low-income Americans can take
advantage of plans with $0 premiums through the
federal exchange's website.
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid through
an exclusive report from CNN, Americans with incomes less
than 150% of the federal poverty level can select policies on
healthcare.

Most Americans can select free
plans, but even the ones who
cannot, will only pay a few dollars,
the report stated.
This includes benefits for
individuals and families with

On the details of the new initiative, CMS had this to say: "We're doing year-round outreach on
marketplace coverage to make sure that people know that it's available to them and really get the
word out to new communities," CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure told CNN.

The cost of health care is rising, in part because of expensive new technologies and procedures, and in part because of the market failure of the health care industry. It has been argued that deregulation of health insurers, combined with a free market health care industry, has changed health care from a service-based structure to a commodity, or a product available for purchase. America's health care delivery system is geared toward the multibillion dollar health insurance industry rather than individual payers, many of whom lack the financial ability to cover health care expenses out of pocket, from general emergency room care to a life-threatening illness. After all, few people have $10,000 in their budgets to cover the cost of an emergency room visit for a broken arm. Americans purchase health insurance to cover medical bills, but health insurance is too expensive for many families to afford. In 2010, 64% of the American population had private health insurance for all or part of the year. That isn't a very large majority, considering that everybody needs medical attention at some point. In that same year, 31% of the population had government-run public health insurance, and 16.3% had no health insurance at all for all or part of the year (DeNavas-Walt, Proctor, & Smith, 2011). The question across America, from Congress to kitchen tables, is how to insure all, how to tackle rising health care costs, and how to decipher a fair and equitable payee process. BELLER Are mandatory health care benefits hazard ous to the health of New York’s insurance and business communities?According to these in terests, being forced to offer such coverages as outpatient treatment of alcoholism or sub stance abuse, mammography screening, home health care or maternity care coverage could drive industry to sell insurance, increases the Inumber of uninsured workers and deprive the state of needed income from the businesses that would be forced to close because of the prohibitive cost of providing insurance. Then there is the scenario voiced by medical and other health care-related interests: without mandated care, large numbers of people who need health care coverage would not be able to afford it; an expansion of mandated benefits is needed. Both sides voiced their views on October 25 when the Senate Democratic Task Force on Health Insurance chaired by Sen. Martin M. Solomon held a public hearing in New York City. "State mandated benefits are a predictable strategy fora society whose fondness for public services far exceeds its willingness to pay for them," stated Jon R. Gabel, associate director of Policy Development and Research with the Washington, D.C.-based Health Insurance As sociation of America. "One appealing facet of employer-mandated benefits is that they seem ingly extend the protection of society’s safety net without raising taxes. “In reality, however, mandated benefits con stitute a tax on employer-sponsored health in surance — pricing out of the insurance market many of the most vulnerable members of the workforce.” COST WILL INCREASE “The cost for the mandate will continue to increase every year, adding to the financial burden on employers and employees. Costs will increase not only because of the spiraling increases in health care costs in general, but also because health insurance coverage will increase demand," argued Edward Reinfurt, vice president of the Business Council of New York State. "Small employers often cannot afford to self- insure. The only option for a small employer faced with spiraling increases in health care costs, exacerbated by mandated benefits, is to eliminate employee health insurance entirely,” warned Christopher Booth of Hinman, Straub. Pigors & Manning, legislative counsel for the New York State Conference of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans. Sitting in the middle is the state’s Insurance Department. Outlining the department’s posi tion was Mary A. Griffin, executive assistant to Superintendent James Corcoran.
