tcdA promo pitch at Science Hack Day Dublin 2012. We pitched this idea to gather a team to work on a number Aurora related projects. in the end we managed to build out a dynamic google earth layer that showed the extend of the Northern Lights over time.

Aurora are bright glows caused by collisions between charged particles from the solar wind and atoms in the Earth's upper atmosphere. The solar wind carries the Sun's magnetic field and particles through space at around 400 km/s, shaping the Earth's magnetosphere into an elongated bubble. Under certain conditions, the solar wind's magnetic field can merge with Earth's, creating electrical currents that drive particles into the polar atmosphere, causing the visible auroral displays usually seen in night skies at high latitudes, known as the northern lights in the northern hemisphere and southern lights in the southern hemisphere.

Aurora Borealis
The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is caused by interactions between the solar wind and Earth's magnetic field. The solar wind carries the Sun's magnetic field and particles through space at around 400 km/s, shaping the Earth's magnetosphere into an elongated bubble. Under certain conditions, the solar wind's magnetic field can merge with Earth's, creating electrical currents that drive particles into the polar atmosphere, causing the visible auroral displays usually seen in night skies at high latitudes, known as the northern lights in the northern hemisphere and southern lights in the southern hemisphere.

Aurora Borealis
The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is caused by interactions between the solar wind and Earth's magnetic field. Solar particles collide with gases in the upper atmosphere between 80-200km above the ground, causing the gases to glow in colorful lights. Common forms of the aurora include curtains, arcs, spirals and diffuse glows. The color of the light depends on the type of gas particle, with oxygen producing green and nitrogen producing red, purple and blue hues. Auroras are best viewed at high latitudes near the Earth's magnetic poles and are more frequent and intense during periods of high solar activity.

AI Research and OpenPOWER at the NASA Frontier Development Lab
The Frontier Development Lab is an AI research accelerator combining capabilities from NASA, academia, and private companies to support NASA's science goals. In 2017, examples of its work included using deep learning to automate creating 3D models of asteroids from radar data in hours instead of weeks. It also built a model to predict geomagnetic field variability and uncover patterns related to geomagnetic storms. Additionally, convolutional neural networks were used to improve solar flare predictions from UV images. The SETI Institute is a member of the OpenPOWER Foundation involved with the Frontier Development Lab.

The extremely high albedo of LTT 9779 b revealed by CHEOPS
Optical secondary eclipse measurements of small planets can provide a wealth of information about the reflective properties
of these worlds, but the measurements are particularly challenging to attain because of their relatively shallow depth. If such signals
can be detected and modeled, however, they can provide planetary albedos, thermal characteristics, and information on absorbers in
the upper atmosphere.
Aims. We aim to detect and characterize the optical secondary eclipse of the planet LTT 9779 b using the CHaracterising ExOPlanet
Satellite (CHEOPS) to measure the planetary albedo and search for the signature of atmospheric condensates.
Methods. We observed ten secondary eclipses of the planet with CHEOPS. We carefully analyzed and detrended the light curves using
three independent methods to perform the final astrophysical detrending and eclipse model fitting of the individual and combined light
curves.
Results. Each of our analysis methods yielded statistically similar results, providing a robust detection of the eclipse of LTT 9779 b
with a depth of 115±24 ppm. This surprisingly large depth provides a geometric albedo for the planet of 0.80+0.10
−0.17, consistent with
estimates of radiative-convective models. This value is similar to that of Venus in our own Solar System. When combining the eclipse
from CHEOPS with the measurements from TESS and Spitzer, our global climate models indicate that LTT 9779 b likely has a super
metal-rich atmosphere, with a lower limit of 400× solar being found, and the presence of silicate clouds. The observations also reveal
hints of optical eclipse depth variability, but these have yet to be confirmed.
Conclusions. The results found here in the optical when combined with those in the near-infrared provide the first steps toward
understanding the atmospheric structure and physical processes of ultrahot Neptune worlds that inhabit the Neptune desert.

There are six main elements of remote sensing: an energy source, radiation and the atmosphere, interaction with the target, recording by the sensor, transmission and processing, and interpretation and analysis. Applications of remote sensing include space exploration, environmental monitoring, land cover mapping, and studying the effects of deforestation. New technologies are allowing remote sensing instruments to become smaller, use more powerful computing, and observe different frequencies of light.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

- 3. • Auroras are caused by increased solar activity • This follows a predictable cycle and we will see significant activity in the next couple of years
- 4. Auroras are visible from Ireland • But how do I know when to go look for them?

- 6. Step 1: Make KML from data Provide a live map of current & predicted solar activity with additional playback functionality
- 7. Step 2: Make LED flat map Northern Perspective Again hooked into live data source
- 8. Step 3: Half Globe with LEDs Build it using geodesic dome pattern?
- 9. Step 4: Build Aurora Orrery Build several full globes with LED auroras Construct an orrery to show relationship between solar flares and auroras on multiple planets
