Sara Friest is giving a presentation about using Aurasma, an augmented reality app, in the classroom. She demonstrates how Aurasma allows users to scan images like book covers to see additional content like book trailers. Some potential classroom uses include creating interactive word walls with definitions, labeling diagrams with extra information, and posting classroom rules with a video demonstrating proper procedures. Aurasma can also help engage students and support those with disabilities by allowing multiple levels of content based on individual needs.

Augment Your School Library: Practical Ways to Transform Your Physical Librar...Martin Cisneros
Bring Digital Information and the Physical World Together. Imagine living in the magical world of Harry Potter, where the school hallways are lined with paintings that are alive and interactive. Now imagine creating an atmosphere like that for your students. Augmented Reality (AR) allows educators and students to do just that: unlock or create layers of digital information on top of the physical world that can be viewed through an Android or iOS device. Bring learning to life in your library with Aurasma and other apps.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
6. What is Aurasma?
◉Aurasma is a free augmented reality app that
allows content to come to life!
◉If you’ve used your phone to scan a QR
code, this works in the same way … except
you can scan anything (not just those black
and white pixelated boxes)!
◉Aurasma is available on iOS and Android
devices.
10. Cool! But how do I use it
in my classroom?
Let me start by showing you how I used it in our LIBRARY.
2
11. To Start...
I made our new young adult
books come alive by
attaching the publisher’s
book trailer to the book’s
cover. I introduced students
to this new way of searching
for books during booktalks.
Then ...
Students were given the
assignment of preparing
booktalks that were then
recorded and attached to the
book covers. We now have
a substantial collection of
books that come to life!
AURASMA in the Library
12. The End Result?
Students who were typically
resistant to reading books began to
get excited about them. Instead of
talking with friends during the time
that was devoted to choosing a
book, they were watching the
videos, trying to find a book that
they wanted to read!
13. How can we incorporate
this technology?
The possibilities are endless!
3
14. Here are just a few ideas …
Interactive Word Walls
When learning new vocabulary,
you can attach different
techniques for learning the
words (synonyms, analogies).
You could even have students
act out the words!
Labeling of Diagrams
Hang a poster on your wall
where students have to use
their app to access key
information. If you do this, you
won’t have to take the poster
down during testing!
An Interactive Newspaper
Students can record an event,
print a screenshot, and write an
article about it. Once it’s printed,
the story can really come to life
for the readers (like the Daily
Prophet in Harry Potter).
Classroom Rules
Post your rules. Then with
Aurasma, apply a video layer
that shows a skit of how to
follow the rules. This would be
great for lab procedures!
Flip Your Instruction
Send students home with an
assignment to do. Attach your
video instruction using
Aurasma. If they don’t
understand it the first time, they
can rewatch it or ask someone
to watch it with them to help
them figure it out.
Parent Involvement
Have parents record of a video
that encourages their student in
a subject that’s especially
difficult. When the student gets
frustrated, they can watch loved
ones cheering them on!
15. How can we use this to help
students with disabilities?
Make it Visual.
4
16. Think about this …
Pacing
Help students learn
at their own pace by
revealing information
when they are ready.
Reach All Students
Use Aurasma to
provide text
translations. You can
have different channels
for various languages.
Differentiation
Create multiple ‘auras’
and have students
subscribe to the
appropriate channel
according to their
abilities or background
knowledge of a topic.
