er, fortified by the energy and positivity of
each of our active members.
I cannot wait to see what is in store this se-
mester for Gamma Pi. We have some cre-
ative sisterhood events planned including
a tie-dye party, a trip to Sky Zone trampo-
line park, cooking classes at the house, and
much more! Our Philanthropy chairman,
Mary Margaret Doyle, has been getting
very creative planning some events this se-
mester that will inspire and aid many in the
Tuscaloosa community. Our women have
jump started the year academically with a
bang! Countless women continue to spread
the Kappa presence and impact around
campus, becoming involved in associa-
tions, honor societies, and clubs across the
board. Our new Vice President of Student
Affairs, Dr. Grady, and the president of
Panhellenic were thoughtful to come visit
our chapter during Recruitment as one of
the three top sororities on campus! They
were more than kind in their compliments
toward our chapter and leadership.
We all have a lot to be proud of as we begin
this exciting new semester. I would like to
express my gratitude toward all alumnae,
advisors, and parents for their continued
support and love. I could not be proud-
er to be behind this incredible group of
strong women. They continue to surprise
me, keep me laughing, and bring me a joy
that makes me so honored to lead Gamma
Pi! No matter what obstacles we may face,
will continue to grow and develop through
sisterhood, loyalty, and excellence! Kappa
is and always will be IT!
Loyally,
Margaret Schatzman, President

This July we packed up all the antique fur-
niture, composites, and the many years of
memories that the old Kappa house held
within it and moved them into the swing
house- Originally known as the Alpha
Gamma Delta house- to start a year full of
growing.
The swing house has come with challenges
as far as size and being older compared to
the other houses on campus, but our amaz-
ing house mother and interior designers
have made it homier than ever by using our
favorite antique pieces from the old house
and giving us many spaces to gather as
a chapter and make new memories.
Ms. Janis has also organized some fun
events for the girls living in the house
such as a sushi making class and even-
tually we hope to hold a self defense
class.
Although we can’t wait to have our
new, beautiful house, I’m sure we will
always cherish the times we will share
throughout this year!

A Summer Abroad By: Grace Gille
Fleur De Lis Editor: Sally Immel
This summer I was blessed with the
opportunity to travel with 14 of my
closest Kappa sisters to Rome, Italy.
Our study abroad program, formal-
ly known as “Go Global,” did more
than just teach us academically. It
taught each and every one us how
to acclimate into different cultures,
navigate around foreign places, and
even how to step outside of our
comfort zones.
Traveling with over 90+ students
from various universities, we were
able to create many new everlasting
friendships and explore countless
new places. Each weekend, we were
allowed to travel to different coun-
tries. I had the opportunity to ex-
plore Barcelona, Prague, Florence
and the Amalfi Coast. While visit-
ing all of these remarkable places,
I was awestruck by not only their
beauty but also how welcoming
everyone was.
It was so incredible to see the differ-
ences in lifestyles that these people
lived in comparison to the lifestyle
of Americans. I really felt as though
I got a small taste of all the different
cultures from every place I visited.
I would say these five weeks were
unquestionably the utmost experi-
ence of my life. I wouldn’t want to
trade this opportunity for anything
else. I definitely believe that study
abroad is a unique experience that
everyone needs to do at least once!
During this fall’s formal recruitment, I dis-
affiliated from Kappa and spent 2 weeks
serving on Judicial Board. My responsibil-
ities on Judicial Board mostly consisted of
me acting as a “recruitment cop”- making
sure all sororities did not violate recruit-
ment rules.
While being intimidating and authorita-
tive was a lot of fun (probably too much),
I will never forget the relationships I built
during my time on Judicial Board. I had
the privilege of spending my time away
from Kappa with some of the greatest
women from every sorority on campus.
I was able to bond with these women
through outrageously expensive Chipotle
runs, late night talks in our shared hotel
rooms, comparing Chaco tans after long
days spent on sorority front porches, and
simply just talking about similarities and
differences between our chapters. It was
refreshing to get to know these women be-
yond just their chapter reputations.
I was really opened up to all different sides
of the Greek System, something that I have
not been able to see since my first formal
recruitment. I highly recommend Judi-
cial Board to anyone who wishes to meet
women throughout the Greek System,
make a ton of amazing friends, and see a
side of recruitment that they have never
seen before!

New Member ClassBy: Jen Sirkin

We are really excited about our new
member class and have already been
having so much fun with them.
The new member retreat on bid day
went great. We all hung out and
played some games at the Embassy
Suites and definitely got some laughs
out of the spontaneous dance party.
We pledged 139 women who all
seem to be having a great start to
their year. We are really excited
about this group of women. They re-
ally try to get involved on campus by
going to SGA events and applying to
great clubs and societies like Fresh-
man Forum. They are also staying
involved with Kappa by attending
all of our sisterhood events and bible
studies. It’s been a great start to the
year with these women and we can’t
wait to get even closer with them.
The University of Alabama Student
Government Association held a
campaign to create awareness, and
promotion of sexual assault preven-
tion on campus. The campaign was
titled “It’s On US” to encourage stu-
dents to take on responsibility and
implement a “no tolerence” policy
when it comes to sexual assault.
Several Student Government Asso-
ciation’s across the nation have pro-
moted the “It’s On Us” Campaign
on their own campuses. Nationally,
the Kappa Kappa Gamma Frater-
nity is the first documented Greek
Organization to support this cam-
paign.
Gamma Pi Kappas took the pledge
and signed the “It’s On Us” board
on the quad to show our support
in the ongoing fight against sexual
assault.

Miracle For Molly By: Mary Margaret Doyle
On September 13th,
Gamma Pi came to-
gether to raise aware-
ness for Molly Rossell,
a sweet mother from
Tuscaloosa who has
cancer in over 50 per-
cent of her liver.
In support for Mol-
ly and her family, we
hosted “Miracle for
Molly” at the Kappa
house.
All of the girls came
for a Taco Mama ca-
tered dinner, and had
the choice to enter an
optional raffle for fun
prizes! All proceeds
went to the Molly Ros-
sell Foundation, as well
as to the Melanoma
Foundation.
All members in atten-
dance wore green to
show support and love
for sweet Molly! It was
a great night!
