July's Above & Beyond Employee: Kathleen Nieves
The Florida Hospital East Orlando Radiology Leadership team would like to congratulate
Kathleen (Katie) Nieves for winning the July Above and Beyond achievement award. Katie
has been with Florida Hospital for 5 years and with the Radiology team for 3 years. We are
truly blessed to have her in the team—especially with her deep belief in our hospital mission
statement and the pride she has in being a part of the Florida Hospital East Orlando family.
Katie has been raised to be an extremely family-oriented lady which is something she holds
to a high estate. She prioritizes quality time with her parents and siblings-time she values.
Katie also feels blessed to work with the East Orlando team that she cherishes as an exten-
sion of her family.
Katie has a “beautiful” chocolate lab named Leo, who she received as a graduation pre-
sent. He was 8 weeks old when he came into her life, he is still a loving member of her
family and carries the same affectionate demeanor as the rest of her family.
Katie feels that her heart’s desire is fulfilled by working at Florida Hospital, because she
enjoys the opportunity given to her here to help people. When performing an act of kind-
ness, she is not only aware of the effect that it may have on that person but is uplifted by
knowing that it can create a trickle-down effect that can change the perspective of lives that
that person comes into contact with. Therefore, it is easy to see how Katie’s favorite parts
of working here are interacting and helping our patients and working with her teammates.
Thank you, Katie, for being an essential part of our team with your dedication and passion.

Basic Annual Required Education (BARE) Facts will be in the 3rd Quarter. It will be in the form
of a handbook and a test in Net Learning.
BARE Facts must be completed and passed by all employees.
The deadline to complete the test in NetLearning is September 21, 2016.

We have all faced the infamous job performance review. Typically, the first two minutes of the review are focused on
what the manager likes about us and our work, and the remaining 58 minutes are spent on our “areas of opportunity”
(the areas in which they define as areas we’re weak and should improve). We walk out of this kind of meeting feeling
deflated and, while we have a clearer understanding of what we don't do well, we have little understanding of what
we’re good at. Employees need objective feedback to focus these talents to become more productive. Great managers
feel compelled to help employees gain self-understanding and knowledge about the talents they possess. Talent only
responds in relationship to another human being. Thus, feedback must be specific to the individual, and must be given
in the context of a positive employee-manager relationship. Employees must walk away from any discussion of their
growth with a clearer understanding of who they are, instead of who they are not and this must occur regularly for
employees to know themselves and the roles in which they are most likely to succeed.

For each complete backpack we received from East Campus depart-
ments, they were entered into a drawing for free lunch from the Execu-
tive team. So we offer a hearty CONGRATULATIONS to the Engineering
team for winning in our drawing!

7. Rising to the top of our life challenges seems impossible sometimes. At times we may even
feel like we are sinking. I heard a pastor once say that his mother told him, when he was
young man, “when you feel down or depressed find opportunities to help others”. Her mes-
sage was to encourage and give hope, especially at times when you, yourself, need it. It
sounds like an oxymoron, but there might be some real truth there. Maybe, while you are
searching for ways to improve someone else’s life, you find what you are looking for to help
you rise to the top of your challenges.
Think of ways that you can help lift others’ perspectives on life and rise by what you find.
Whether it falls on a Pay it Forward day or any other day, you can turn someone’s life around!

The good things we do may sometimes feel like they go unnoticed, but sometimes, without realizing
it, you may touch someone’s life to the point that they can’t help but say something about it. Below
are some of those examples!

Catch of the month: Lizmar Montoyo
While performing a chest x-ray in the morning with our portable unit, Lizmar Montoyo noticed some-
thing that just did not look right as she reviewed her images. Before sending them to our PACS sys-
tem, she immediately brought this to the nurse’s attention. As a result, it changed the course of
treatment for our patient.
By slowing down, paying attention to detail and being confident about what she saw,
Lizmar was able to alert the proper staff members of a specific area that we have to
address for our patient.
What we do as technologists, every day. is very important to our patients' wellbeing.
We do not always know or hear about the changes in treatment that are made due to
our imaging jobs, but providing the best quality images and saying something as soon
as we feel something is not quite right could change a person’s outcome and wellness
experience.
Remember: If you See Something, Say Something.

Security has been a concern in many of our minds and our campus administration leaders have
been listening. They have responded with a 1.1 million dollar investment to enhance our cam-
pus security! Below are some of the specifics of that project.
Florida Hospital’s annual United Way Campaign is here!
There will be opportunities for you to donate and support
this great cause. There will also be awareness events for
you to be better informed coming soon.
The program runs from October 16 to November 13, 2016.
If you are interested in becoming the United Way Campaign Coordinator, please contact Emily Blinn.
You will share the role with other department representatives, receive UW training and use what you learn to help edu-
cate your colleagues on the UW campaign goals!
1) Trimmed Landscaping -
a. Trim trees from around light poles that are currently reducing available light in our parking lot.
Shrubbery will be trimmed down to provide better field of view and reduce blind spots in our walking areas.
2) Parking lot light poles with panic buttons & cameras -
a. In our surface lots, 23 new “smart poles” will be installed. The new poles consist of LED lighting,
camera and panic button in case of emergency.
3) Camera software migration -
a. A migration of all existing campus cameras to 1 software platform will allow a more streamline ap-
proach for monitoring. Utilization of a virtual security officer to monitor many areas of the campus from one
location. Deployment of security officers on the ground to needed areas.
4) Installation of fencing and gates -
a. A fence will be installed that encompasses the entire East property with lockable gates.
5) LPR (license plate recognition) -
a. This security measure utilizes cameras to monitor vehicle traffic in and out of the East campus.
This system is tied into other hospitals and public alert systems and is capable of activating a campus wide alert
if vehicles enter the property that have been flagged as potential safety or security threat.
**Remember to stay safe: Pay particular attention to people and our environment. Report anything out of the ordinary to
officials or Florida Hospital security – if you see something, say something. Do not leave valuables in plain sight in your vehi-
cle. Walk to and from your vehicle in groups, whenever possible. Call in a work order to engineering (x1592), if you notice any
parking lot lights that are not working and/or unsafe conditions. For an escort, contact security by dialing x1916. If you per-
ceive any threats, contact x1515 for emergencies. **

As you may already know, the reason
we are using them is so our patients
have the names of everyone they
made contact with. This helps the
patient feel secure in knowledge that
we are all taking full accountability for
our role in their wellness plan.
It also helps provide them with
names to use when they feel the de-
sire to acknowledge exceptional service!
Continue doing the good work!
Humans have long associated the
feeling of love with their heart. The
organ used to pump blood around
the body. A blue heart can symbolize
a deep and stable love. Trust, harmo-
ny, peace and loyalty are associated with the blue
heart and Florida Hospital East awards individuals
that display these qualities.
Our very own director, Brad Wideman, was the recip-
ient of such accolade. The East Campus Council
leadership team nominated him for his achieve-
ments in our department and at the campus level.
Let’s join together in a congratulatory spirit for Brad
for receiving the Blue Heart Award!

Florida Hospital has developed this health and wellness
program based on 8 biblical principles. This comprehen-
sive, faith-based plan offers special training that ad-
dresses all aspects of health, i.e. mental, physical, and
spiritual. The goal of this program is to improve overall
health and longevity through education and behavior
modification.

 2 pkg of instant vanilla
pudding mix
 3 cups of milk
 1 container of frozen whipped top-
ping, thawed
 1 package of chocolate graham
crackers
 1/4 cup of milk
 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa pow-
der
 1 cup of white sugar
 2 tablespoons of butter
 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:
 In large bowl, combine pudding mix
and 3 cps of milk; mix well. Fold in whipped
topping and beat with mixer for 2 min.
 In buttered 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a
layer of graham crackers on the bottom of the
dish.
 Spread 1/2 of the pudding mix over crackers,
then top w/graham crackers. Spread re-
maining pudding over crackers; top second
pudding layer with another layer of crackers.
 To make topping: In medium saucepan over
medium-high heat, combine 1/4 cp milk. Mix
well and cool.
 Pour sauce over graham cracker layer and re-
frigerate until set; serve. Enjoy!
