Audience Research
By Abigail Downes
I made a survey on survey monkey where the public can take
my survey, these are my results and my analysis and how from
my research I will make sure my magazine addresses the
answers given.
This shows that more woman
took this test, therefore I will
make sure in my magazine I
make it so both male and
female would find it enjoyable
and would want to read it.
However due to more woman
filling out this survey it means
there will be a female bias in the
results given.
This that over 80% of the people
who filled in my survey were
aged 18-24 therefore I need to
make sure my magazine is
appropriate for ages 18-75
because the genre of my music
magazine; metal has a varied
following of all ages.
Unfortunately this shows that over
50% never buy music magazines,
therefore I need to make my
magazine very interesting and
better than things they could find
online through social media, radio
and TV. This could be done
through the use of exclusive
interviews and special
competitions with unique prizes.
Again, this shows over 50%
only read certain articles in the
magazine therefore I need to
make sure my magazine has
enough interesting and
appealing articles that even if
they are only interested not
reading the magazine in detail,
the magazine is worth the
money.
This that the majority keep
magazines for future referral
therefore it would be a clever idea to
contain articles which would help
musicians develop or how to’s that as
they will be kept can then be used in
the future as a helpful guide.
This shows the most popular part of a
magazine is interviews therefore I will
make sure the main articles in my
magazine are interviews however
Reviews the second favourite therefore I
will include reviews on a variety of things
such as; live tours, albums, guitars and
pedals.
This shows that the type of interviews
found most appealing are those not in
depth but there’s only 10% in between
the answers therefore to accommodate
both I will have a variety of interview
lengths such as; in-depth, quick fire,
fact file and short answers. This way if I
include a variety all of my audience has
been considered.
There were two choices which had
the same amount of votes, these
were people would pay £1-£2.50
and £3.60-£5 this tells me some
people will pay a lot for a magazine
and some will not therefore I will go
with a middle price as then I will be
able to include valuable and
interesting freebies and offer
brilliant competitions. Also if I go
for a lower price when it is a
monthly magazine it will make my
magazine stand out and be a better
opti0n because it is cheaper.
90% of people who took my
survey wanted a magazine
which provided vouchers for
certain stores and gig tickets
therefore I will include these
features to create an excitement
about my magazine.
• From my audience research I now have a clear idea of what
my magazine will be like through the answers the public
have given.
• By following the audience research I hope this will make
my magazine more popular as it will be appealing to a
variety of different people within the Metal Genre.
