A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

1. Audience Research
I made a questionnaire which includes 6 questions about horror
film. I have asked 30 people of mixed age and gender. Here are
the results and my analysis.
1. Have you watched horror film before?
As you can see, it’s very obviously. Only 6% people haven’t watched horror film, and

most of people have watched horror film. Although someone don’t want to watch it
anymore, there are still many people would like to watch horror film. Some people
told me that when they are watching horror film, they could get nervous and
trembling, and they really enjoy it. Most of people watch horror film when they are
boring or happy, but there are some special people would like watch horror film with
their girlfriend or boyfriend. On the other hand, for people who haven’t watched
horror film, there are two reasons: 1. They are dare to watch horror film, they are
afraid of it. 2. They think it’s boring and don’t want to pay money or spend time to
watch it.
2. How do you feel about the horror film?

people think watch horror film is really exciting and also enjoy watching horror film,
2. but there also some special examples. One of my friends said:“I think horror film is
really interesting, because every time when I am watching horror film, I always laugh,
I don’t think it’s scary, I watch it as a comedy.” I think he is weird. 33% people think
horror film it is ordinary, they can watch it with friends or family, bat they are not like
of hate it. And there 33% people think horror film is terrible, the reasons are: 1. They
are afraid of watch horror film. 2. They think all of horror films are boring.
3. Do you prefer watching horror film in cinema or at home?

When people answer this question, they all have reason. 60% people would like watch
horror film in cinema, because the thing the screen in cinema is very, and it is very
dark in cinema, so it is more exciting than watch horror film at home. And more and
more horror films are 3D now, some of them even 4D. By contrast, 40% people would
like watch horror film at home, because when they are watching film in cinema, there
are also some people watching the film in cinema with you, and someone really noisy.
They cannot stand them, so they choose watch horror film at home

This pie chart is interesting. There are five options, and percentages of these five
options are same. All of them are 20%. Actually, different people like different
settings and methods. People who like horror film shot in residential area told me:“We
live in residential area, so if the horror film shot in it, it is more close to our real life.”
And someone else thinks evenings in forest is creepy. On the other hand, some
Chinese think films shot in historical location are very scary, because there are many
old houses in China, they should naturally be the shoot places for horror film. So
3. everyone has different thought.
5. Are you fear when you watching horror film?

Yes
No
A reference to watch horror film, the first thing people will probably thought is scary.
I think first to watch horror film for everyone must be terrible, we might think it is
impossible not to be afraid when watching a horror film, but there are actually some
people not to be afraid when they are watching a horror film. They occupy 20%. Like
I mentioned above, one of my friends thinks horror films are funny, so he must be
definitely not to be afraid when he watching a horror film.
6. If you have children, will you let them watch horror film?
40%
60%
Yes
No
This is a question on education, but people will probably change their thought when
they have children. 40% people allow their children watch horror films, some of them
think watch it or not is children’s freedom, so they don’t worry about it. Other people
think if children want to watch horror film and they don’t allow, children will more
wanted to watch it, but if they allow children to watch horror films, maybe after they
watch the film, they will probably don’t want to watch horror film anymore. On the
other hand, some people think horror films are bad for children, and will affect
children’s psychology. There are also some bloody, cruel and pornographic shots in
horror films, they are not suitable for children.
