1. Firstly, we knew that audience feedback was
a vital part of the production process while
completing all three of our products, and therefore
we devised multiple ways to gather and analyse
audience feedback. Some of these ways include
questionnaires, charts, interviews, and videos.
2. We initially conducted an email to the management of Nero in
order to conform to copyright laws, so that we were able to use
this piece of music in our video legally. A screen shot of the
email is below. We did not receive a reply so we assumed we
were allowed to use this song, as if it was not okay,
management of Nero would have told us otherwise. This
implied feedback from Nero allowed us to use the song legally.
3. We wanted to create a product that our target audience would purchase,
and like to see. Our main target audience is 15 to 18 due to the fact that
our genre of music (pop and Dub step) is most popular with this age group,
however our target audience extends to anyone who likes Nero’s previous
work.
I have learnt many things from our target audience, and this is shown in the
re-draf
ts and improvements made to our media work in previous posts. In
our initial audience research, we asked our target audience what they enjoy
the most about music videos and their views on the general conventions. We
did this in order to gather accurate information about
their likes and dislikes, so that we knew what to avoid including in the
music video, and we would include (or take into consideration) what they
liked. We learnt that many of our audience enjoy a random, disjuncture style
narrative, and therefore we devised our narrative and story board based
around this view. We also learnt that they were against any pornographic
content in music videos, and therefore we did not include anything
to disinterest our audience.

4.
5. After the first filming and editing session where we had produced
our first introductory clip, we showed our audiences and asked for their
feedback. We learnt that we needed to edit the speeds, and include
some more clips due to the fact they said it gets ‘a little boring and
repetitive’. We also learnt that some members of our audience thought a
certain clip was funny, were as it was supposed to be serious. This clip
consisted of a plant, at the same time the audio built up to the first peak.
After feedback, we changed the introduction and speeded up some clips,
while slowing down others and adding in extra clips instead of repeating
them. We also changed the clip from the plant, to an image of the main
character. This improved the look dramatically and we were very
impressed with the feedback we received.
6.
7. Another point that arose when asking for feedback via interview
was the part where Jack was walking out of the water, we
included a shaky camera shot of Jack walking out of the water,
which our audience said didn’t look as good as the rest of the
video, and therefore we made this clip dramatically shorter and
replaced the remaining space with a stiller image of Jack to even
out the balance. We were then re-assured by feedback after
editing this, that this looked considerably better.
BEFORE AFTER
8. While filming and editing our club scene, we noticed it was vitally
important to receive feedback for this section because it took up a large
amount of our video. We created questionnaires and handed them out to
8 of our target audience asking them their views on our club scene so far.
The majority of them said they really liked the point of view perspective,
and the colours and bright lights which was reassuring to hear. Some
also stated that they would like to see more shots of Jack walking into
the club so that they could get a better idea of what’s going on. We did
not have enough time to re film Jack walking through the actual club, so
we edited clips of Jack walking into the club to establish this link.
9. Another point that was made in feedback, was that some
shots were too slow in the wrong places, and that we
should include slower shots in certain places. We
conformed to the view by speeding up certain sections
where the music peaked, and we slowed down certain
parts for example where there are close ups of people’s
faces. This worked well and we really liked the feedback
we received.
10. After we had redrafted again and added a new scene of the main character
getting dressed, we received feedback for this scene. We then found that our
target audience thought the scene goes on for a bit too long and it gets a
bit repetitive. We decided to cut a proportion from this scene, and speed up
sections for example when jack put on his t-shirt, which definitely improved
the overall look and left room for other shots.
11. When it came to finalising the music video, we showed our music video
to our audience and asked them for their feedback and suggestions. We
then found that our music video didn’t end very well, and we were
advised by our audience to include a clip of something else at the end.
We agreed with these views and got thinking what we should include at
the end. One member of the audience stated we should include an image
of Jack doing some drugs as this would look ‘cool’. We took this into
consideration, and then developed this idea and decided we didn’t have
enough time to re-film anything; however we will use a clip of Jack
walking away, which worked very well as a simplistic approach
to balance out the faster paces.
12. After completing the music video we wanted to receive
some final feedback to see what they thought overall. We showed
them our music video and then interviewed them about it. I found
that they were very positive towards our music video, commenting
on how they enjoyed the use of colour and the diverse range
of shots.
Some things that were mentioned during the interview were: "The
green screen was amazing"
- "The music went with the randomness" - This showed how we have
established a direct link between the visual imagery and the audio to
produce an immersive and effective piece.
- “Jack’s not very innocent really” - This shows how we have
successfully fulfilled our narrative ideology about the main character being
not innocent.
- "I can relate to it" - Lewis stated about the McDonalds scene. This
shows how we have created an environment in which
the audience is familiar with and therefore creates connotations
with their own lives at the same time as creating verisimilitude.
13. Many mentioned how they liked the green screen part as
this was visually interactive for them. They also seem to
understand the underlying ideology in which we were
subverting the song’s lyrics and title ‘innocence’ by
making the character not innocence at all. These points
were all very satisfying due to the fact that we had
fulfilled or purpose in entertaining the audience, giving
them something visually immersive that would
encourage them to purchase the song or merchandise.
Throughout the course, audience feedback has forced us
to improve significant parts of our music video. This
caused us to re-film, re-edit and re-draft much of our
footage to make it a successful piece of video.
We analysed much of our data in the form of pie charts
to gather an accurate data.
14.
15. We found that 90% of our audience that we interviewed would watch
the video again. We also found that 17 out of 20 felt encouraged to
purchase the song after watching the video. Overall I am very pleased
with the amount of audience feedback we achieved as it has made our
music video dramatically enhanced.
