With all our orchestration, transformation and business rules buried in java code it was becoming time consuming to understand how our systems operated, bring new hires up to speed and answer use case questions. Due to the complexity of our business rules and the general mistakes that naturally take place in human communication, it was time consuming and error prone to translate information from the product owners to developers and vice versa. In this brief talk, I will demonstrate how 24 Hour Fitness is using Camunda to overcome this problem.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

HCL Notes und Domino Lizenzkostenreduzierung in der Welt von DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-und-domino-lizenzkostenreduzierung-in-der-welt-von-dlau/
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
5th LF Energy Power Grid Model Meet-up SlidesDanBrown980551

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

SQL
Always on is the latest and greatest
Will ultimately replace Mirroring
Fabric
Manages replicas
V3 introduced for 2012+
Addresses issues with pool startup and failover
Start-CsPool commandlet introduced
V2 still supported, however it will not receive the same level of feature updates/improvements
SQL Always on support
Cross subnet not supported
Supports only Synchronous commit mode
Does not support read-only secondary replicas
No offsite replica support (Azure)
SQL Enterprise required for AlwaysOn
Requirements
S4B does not support stretching AvGroups to stetch across physical locations
Replicas in the same subnet
Synchronise commit enabled
Automatic failover
NO secondary read access or off-site
All previous SQL redundancy technologies are still supported, Mirroring will eventually be depreciated
More reliable:
Always on – one primary and up to two secondary replicas
Mirroring – on primary, one mirror
All databases in availability group are failed over at the same time unlike SQL mirroring which could leave some DBs on primary and others on the secondary making a bit of an admin headache.
Windows Fabric v3 introduced
Promised to address some of the issues with pool failover and startup. Start-CsPool commandlet introduced.
Operating system selects the version of Win Fabric. Windows Fabric 3.0 is only supported on Server 2012+
Recommended OS Server 2012R2
Improvements:
Faster replica rebuilds under slow network conditions
Performance improvements and bug fixes
Better resiliency of Fabric services
Support for DeActivate API – Slowly drain replicas
Prevent WinFabric putting replicas on shutting down FE
Safe upgrade checks
Better handling of certain error conditions
Reduced size of Win Fabric performance counters
Ability to control the size of Fabric trace files
Ability to enable remote copying of fabric logs
Latest fixes for Win Fabric may not be available to v2.0

In-place upgrade requirements:
Install CU5+ latest hotfix to Lync 2013 topology
PowerShell RTM version (6.2.9200.0) or later
Have at least SQL server 2012 SP1 installed
Windows Server 2008 R2 - KB2533623
Windows Server 2012 - KB2858668
Windows Server 2012 R2 - KB2982006
No schema updates required
Install core components and admin tools on a machine with no Lync 2013 components. This machine will be used to upgrade the topology
Upgrade the topology
Run installer over the top of existing server roles
Healthy pool, do not fail the pool over!
Don’t start FE pool services in mixed mode - All front end servers in a pool must be upgraded before starting services
Ensure minimal time where Paired pools are running different versions
Support for in-place upgrades of purely Lync 2013 environments. In-place upgrades can be completed offline, or online if you have multiple pools.
Installer checks for updates before install
Can upgrade OS if you remove Lync, run upgrade, then follow S4B upgrade process.
Upgrade Order
User pools
Shared components e.g. mediation and edge
SBA controlled by vendors –> no in-place upgrade
Upgrade will take about 1.5 hours
Invoke-CsComputerFailOver take FE out of rotation
Perform patching/upgrade
Invoke-CsComputerFailBack to bring FE in to active state (MUST)
Repeat for each FE
- Leverages WinFab v3
DETAILS
Simplified workflow leverages Win Fabric v3
4 steps
Invoke-CsComputerFailOver to stop FE; take FE out of rotation, move replicas out
Perform patching/upgrade
Invoke-CsComputerFailBack to start FE; bring FE in to active state, move replicas in
Repeat for each FE
If you use the FailOver command then you MUST use FailBack to bring back online.
Failover requires RTCSRV to be running
Progress indicator to give a graphical representation on the update process
How is this better?
Simpler workflow, fewer commands, less errors
Faster!
More reliable
Checks for pool readiness before failover
Leverages Win Fabric v3 deactivate/activate node API’s ensuring more dependable operation
Will not allow fail over if there are existing replication issues in the pool
Progress indicators
Invoke-CsComputerFailOver
Checks for availability of sufficient number of servers
Waits for replica stability across the pool
Verifies all replicas exisit before taking down the server
Initiates deactivation of the node; wait for success/failure from Win Fabric
Stops services after successfully deactivating node
Failover command requires 4+ FE’s in a pool to maintain service for all users. Command will only work for 3+ FE’s.
Invoke-CsComputerFailBack
Start services if not already started
Activate node – Win Fabric will now consider the server for replica placement
Federation
Search by ID, no longer MS ID
Any Skype user can add S4B users
Any S4N user can add Skype users
No content/meeting support yet
Also available in Lync 2013
Introduced in December client updates

Support for meetings and peer to peer calling
CQD
In addition to Monitoring Db
Leverages SQL Analysis Services (SSAS) to improve BI within Skype for Business
Video Interop Server (VIS)
is a new role introduced to enable interop with conferencing vendor products. VIS is essentially a video gateway between Skype4B and legacy video conferencing solutions (VTC's)
VIS has no transcoding capability so VTC's will need to support H.264
VTC users can call Skype4B users, but not the other way around
Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) server role
The CQD in Skype4B leverages SQL Analysis Services (SSAS) to improve BI within Skype for Business
Skype for Business client that will ask the user for their feedback at the end of a call. This data can be compared to what the server has reported
Purely on-premise
Purely online
No enterprise voice, trials in US then global roll complete by 2020
Hybrib mix of the above
Built-in management of Office 365 in Control Panel
Additionally Skype4B can be deployed in a resource forest, however Microsoft are discouraging this, mainly because hybrid is not supported in this scenario.
Moving and managing users can be completed in the on premises control panel (limited in first release)
Deployment challenges are somewhat overcome by using the CP wizard
Detect and report the exisiting hybrid configuration
Auto-configure missing config
Move users to and from cloud
Manage user properties
