ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is an organic molecule that supplies cells with energy through its high-energy phosphate bonds. It provides energy to cells by breaking these bonds through hydrolysis, using an enzyme called ATPase. ATP is regenerated from its breakdown products ADP and phosphate through another enzyme called ATP synthase, in a process called cellular respiration that occurs in both plants and animals.
