This document summarizes a presentation on automated browser performance testing. It discusses how browser performance is influenced by many factors like networks, parsing time, JavaScript execution and reflows. It also describes the JIRA browser performance test suite that was built using page objects, a testing framework, plugins for integration, a database for results and charts for visualization. The test suite automates interactions and measures performance baselines over time to catch regressions. Key techniques discussed include batching, predictive fetching and caching to optimize performance.

_Given_ the prominence of API-first development _when_ developing web applications, projects _then_ need to be tested beyond unit and functional tests. Authoring tests using the Gherkin with Behat provides a way to achieve BDD with APIs. We'll dive right into writing Gherkin, how to create your own test scenarios in Gherkin, and how to hook those tests up with custom PHP test methods. See tests in action with live coding and live demos, including writing new custom tests. Leave excited to produce fully-tested APIs!

Drupal commerce performance profiling and tunning using loadstorm experiments...Andy Kucharski
Drupal commerce performance profiling by load testing a the kickstarter drupal commerce site on an AWS instance and comparing how the site performa after several well known performance tuning enhancements are applied. We try to compare performance improvements after druapl cache, aggregation, varnish, and nginx reverse proxy.
This presentation was first given at Drupal Mid Camp in Chicago. We used loadstorm and new relic to analyze results.
At UCR, automation is a part of everything we do. When designing a new architecture and the set of new processes for our new Java based development environment we came up with a set of continuous integration and deployment tools to enable our developers to write and deploy their own applications in a flexible and secure environment.
These are the slides presented at StarWest 2015 in Anaheim, CA. The slides are showcasing all of the advanced usages of selenium or add ons to improve your selenium test cases
Building websites like applications means bringing more attention to testing. From unit tests early on to load and regression testing later in the game, the primary purpose of testing is to detect software failures so that defects are discovered and corrected before they make it to the customer. Depending on your size, different testing strategies and things like automation may or may not be necessary. I'll cover some great free tools, some simple command line scripts as well as some commercial choices for the various types of testing.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
DevOps and Testing slides at DASA ConnectKari Kakkonen
My and Rik Marselis slides at 30.5.2024 DASA Connect conference. We discuss about what is testing, then what is agile testing and finally what is Testing in DevOps. Finally we had lovely workshop with the participants trying to find out different ways to think about quality and testing in different parts of the DevOps infinity loop.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
