Extinguishing Burnout By
Rediscovering Your Why Through Play 9-27-22
Burnout is at an all-time high, yet most proposed solutions focus on analyzing burnout rather than finding answers for it. What if the answer is finding your why through play? Life demands a lot from us, but are we creating space for ourselves to do our best work and enjoy the journey?
Studies have found that we are 500% more productive when we are in a state of flow. Also, being in flow provides a certain level of fulfillment and joy, as we learn to appreciate the process over the results. In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to use positive psychology techniques to help find your why, explore your play values, and rediscover actionable ways to get into flow, so you can be and do your best work.

Editor's Notes
Two part exercise.
Part 1: A-Hole to every one
If you did like it why do you think that is?
If you didn’t what about it made it feel that way?
Part 2: High fives to everyone
How did two environments feel?
Thank You
Close your eyes. Think about where you were on the beginning of Thursday. Think about the random, serendipitous path that brought you here to this room today. Don’t open your eyes yet, but when you do, the first person you lock eyes with will be your partner today. Consider it the universe saying this is who you are going on this journey with today.
Drawing Game
Which time was more difficult? The first time when you could see or the second time with your eyes closed?
Why the second time? Why were you able to let go of judgement?
The first way comes from a place of self judgement and self criticism. Feeling like you have to apologize for simply being you. You thought you had to be perfect.
What I want you to embrace today is the second lens where you let go of judgement. Let go of results. Treat this workshop like we’re playing.

Ground rules:
**DISCLAIMER: be present and enjoy**
The more you play, the more you'll get out of this
My story is about getting what you think you want, and it was not what we expected/actually wanted. But when I pursued the fun aspects of what I enjoyed doing as a kid, with no idea where it was going to go, similar to your drawings, trusting and enjoying the process, and it created something amazing that you never thought was possible.
So, today we are going to explore what is the type of play that we loved to do as a kid and how does that tie into what we loved to do now, and why that's a helpful thing to consider
And when I dove back into the idea of what I loved as a kid, that provide such a different more playful perspective and opened up so many more possibilities.
Note the Travel Analogy, travel-mindset, play-oriented mindset, process-oriented mindset…Why not take that fun approach where we enjoy the ride.
Why is flow important or helpful ---->
In order to get into flow, we are encouraging to embrace the play-oriented, travel oriented mindset, because when you travel, you are open to all these possibilities, saying “yes, and”.
By us embracing this mindset, it allowed us to be open to opportunities that were on less on the results oriented path and so much more fun.
